No Day-One DLC for BandFuse: Rock Legends

soup-nazi

Today marked the release day of BandFuse: Rock Legends. It would seem that the fluctuating number of day one DLC expected for BandFuse has turned out to be zero. That’s right, last minute issues have forced the DLC for BandFuse to be delayed. While we’re not quite sure why, it seems that according to a post on their Facebook page, the delay is because they’re going after bigger and more major artists for DLC as well as a whole re-evaluation of the DLC strategy. We don’t know exactly WHEN it’ll be coming, but at least we know it IS coming. Fortunately for us, the timeline will be clarified this week, so stay tuned.

…and speaking of bigger and more major artists, BandFuse posted some news about the 2014 Experience Hendrix Tour. I don’t suppose…

  1. I received my copy today. I don’t play but I bought it for my 14yo. He has been working hard to master Godzilla and one of the things I immediately noticed is the guitar track on BandFuse is not there. That is a HUGE plus because my son wanted to be able to play Rocksmith 2014 without the guitar track so he could hear only his guitar. He isn’t home from school yet but when he gets home he’ll get to experience BandFuse, as an early RockBand Pro, Rocksmith user, it’ll be interesting to see which he prefers.

      1. The polyphonic tuner is 20 times better than Rocksmith 2014. The cables are not compatible and he thought that was odd.

We didn’t get home until almost 10:00 but he went straight to his room and started playing and is still playing. He said that he actually likes Rocksmith 2014 better but that may be because he’s more comfortable with Rocksmith or that there are way more songs to choose from on Rocksmith. The fact that he didn’t want to stop playing tonight says a lot, he said we over value sleep. He really likes that he get’s to hear himself play, that’s huge for him. In Rocksmith 2014, he’s just playing along with the lead, in BandFuse you are the lead. He likes the note highway in BF but there are more features to Rocksmith 2014. I believe he’ll play Rocksmith 2014 and when he wants to really master the song he’ll switch to BandFuse if the song is available on that platform. The interface and Note Highway are much cleaner and you get to watch the actual video while on rests which he liked. He needs more time to test out all the features though.

As a father, I prefer Bandfuse so far but it appears it will help play a song better as he can hear what he is playing without turning down the backing music.

        1. Funny, I always have the opposite issue with Rocksmith–my guitar is loud as hell, but I can’t hear the song in the background unless I turn it way up. But I know lots of people have been looking forward to not having to hear the original guitar, and I do think it should be a neat method. Although I do hope there’s an option to hear the original guitar, so you can know what to play.

  2. BF could steal something from RS…

With RS14 (on xbox) you can assign up to three custom guitar tones to the right stick, with the 4th position being the auto tone that goes with the song.

Apparently with FB you need to press start to pull up quick rig, select amps and turn off the custom amp…

It is SO much better to always have three custom tones at your finger (or toe) tips. Some times with RS14 I like to end the song by kicking in my “Marshall” amp.

(Speaking of Marshall, I like the authorized gear on RS better as well.)

  3. No day one dlc for moral reasons?!? Hahaha.. some how I doubt that plus I see nothing wrong day one dlc. They may have different rates and royalties for on disc songs compared to dlc. You certainly would have had to pay more for the game if there was another 40 big name song. Games do not usually have multiple songs from the same artist on disc but often have packs. There maybe songs that didn’t have all the paperwork done in time for production of the disc or artists that wanted to be a pack instead of a single song….

Have they announced how much dlc will be?

  4. Good for BandFuse. If you’re planning DLC ahead of time, then it should just be part of the game to begin with. Obviously, Bandfuse isn’t not doing game day DLC for moral reasons, and DLC is all about the $$$ anyways, but day one DLC just seems like a slap in the face to consumers expecting a finished product and not an online marketplace where you overpay for guitar tabs for bad songs.

    1. I disagree with you on two of your points.

1: Its a bit harsh calling Rocksmith an unfinished product. There is a ton of songs on the Rocksmith 2014 disk already and they probably have to pay royalties for each of them. That means the game would just have been more expensive if they had put the 8 day-1 DLC songs on the disk as well.

2: You don’t pay for bad songs with DLC. That is the smart thing about it, you just pick the ones you like and skip the rest (I have skipped the Japanese DLC for instance, its just not my thing).

As long as they keep making money on DLC, they will keep making new DLC, which is great in my opinion.

But I think I agree with you that the DLC songs are a bit expensive.

      1. You’re right–it is unfair to call Rocksmith an unfinished product, and I hesitated before using that phrasing. And I don’t have any problem at all with DLC–I’m for it entirely, and I love the freedom to choose which songs I want to purchase, although they are pricey. I just think it’s weird to have DLC available the day the game comes out when DLC is (to me) more about adding things to a game after it has been finished, rather than asking people to pay extra for it along with their initial purchase right away.

  5. It took me a few songs to get adjusted to side scrolling numbers and colors.
But probably because I played guitar bots a LOT since February and they pretty much use the same Fingering Color and tabs.
Just miss the bouncy ball on GuitarBots.

Also interesting that No Rain has different fingering for RS and BF. As well as Carry on my Wayward Son. Threw me for a loop. Had I learned the Bandfuse way first, I’d have been happier.

  6. I can’t read those side-scrolling numbers at all. I don’t know if it’s just because it’s is a video but if that is reflective of the game experience on a TV then, to me, it is unplayable.

Maybe if the font was bolder…

    1. do you have the game or are you basing that on online videos?
I have the xbox version on a 50 inch plasma and the numbers are much easier to read than any of the online videos made it look

      1. That is good to know. I don’t have the game, I was just looking at the online videos before I would consider a purchase. That is what I meant by if the video was reflective of the experience of playing the game on a TV.

I don’t have the world’s best eye sight and I can’t read the moving numbers at all on the online videos.

        1. Still waiting for my copy (lolcanada) but I have noticed the game looks so much better when it’s filmed off screen as opposed to through a capture card.

  7. Competition is also good for the consumer 🙂

Of course since they don’t have a pc version I could care less which artists they get.

  8. I haven’t had a chance to play the fuse much yet but my initial opinions are:

    1) bandfuse is easier to see rhythm and chord shapes

    2) bandfuse is easier to see what fret to jump to

    3) bandfuse is better because the use of stems makes it so you hear your guitar and not the original guitar track

these opinions are aided by the fact that I can play guitar ok and I’m very familiar with tab

    1. Agree with this 100%.

Rocksmith is very difficult to read what fret to play when it constantly zooms in and out on the fretboard and especially for rhythm and chord changes.

Audio stems are also a huge win for me as I want to perfect my tone and really hear what I’m playing instead of sounding better than I really am by just playing over another guitar part.

Rocksmith does have session mode which I was initially very skeptical about. Its far from revolutionary but definitely a very handy tool to have.

Therefore I guess I will have to purchase both. 😀

      1. Hey I agree with you as well.

RS session mode has been pretty cool some of the time. I’ve had sessions where they didn’t seem responsive and have even had it where they refuse to play with me.

Last night I started to play this little riff and I was looking for a place to record myself alone in BF. (I thought I had read you could do that) I didn’t locate where to do that so I picked a backing tracking that seemed appropriate and worked out really well. I played and enhanced my riff to their track and as it when on it inspired me to solo over it. Some sounded pretty good (for me) but of course there were sections where I thought “why did you play that?”

btw I own RS, RS14 and BF

    2. Ok call me stupid but how is it easier to see chord shapes on Bandfuse? It’s a straight line with numbers. Rocksmith actually shows you the shape. On Barre chords if you have it on default view shows you exactly what the chord shape is. Bandfuse does not do this. If you look at any chord book the shapes in the book are exactly the same as the way portrayed in Rocksmith. If I was a beginner a straight line with numbers would be alien to me. Of course I’m looking at this from a beginners stand point and not one with some experience like myself.

      1. LvlNinety9: I see your point about the shape. To me it is automatic to see the root note of the chord and base the shape on the tab numbers. With RS I have to interpret color, find the fret number and interpret what is a half step of full step from the shape.

Of course I am a long time tab user so I can’t even put myself in the shoes of a beginner. I need to have some non-guitar playing friends look at both and see what they think.

  9. Whoever gets Hendrix first will be the winner, no wait Metallica. To be honest I hope its Bandfuse its just a better designed program

    1. As a beginning guitarist, I couldn’t care less about which franchise has Hendrix or Metallica. I can’t play that stuff to save my life, why would I pay extra for it as DLC?

    2. Whaaat, it is an extremely uglier design. How the hell can you say that their “Singstar” approach is better. So much for tab but hey it’s uuuglay!

        1. I like em both, so you can’t accuse me of ‘fanboyism.’ I can never understand why people comment at all if they simply dislike a product that they have no intention of ever trying. I’m sure I couldn’t be bothered to make comments on all the stuff I dislike. Some use the excuse that they’re letting others know it’s a bad product, and they’d have a fair point if they spent good money on it and it wasn’t as described, but this isn’t really the case here, is it.

          1. Well… How should I put it then? That guy brings up a valid point: Hendrix is awesome! Now, he, maybe like myself, does not own a console so he can’t play Bandfuse. Say, Bandfuse gets exclusive Hendrix deal, which means for us, PC Master Race, we won’t be able to play it along with a backing track and them fancy computer graphics. See what I mean?
