Rocksmith 2014 DLC 1/20/2015 – Classic Riff Song Pack

Four out of the five artists are making their debuts in Rocksmith this week, but none of them are strangers to music games. All five of these songs have appeared in rhythm games in the past, but only one of them has been playable on a real guitar before! Also, this marks the first time for three of these songs that the original version is showing up in a guitar game!

Let’s take a look at the clue that @DanAmrich posted Friday afternoon.

L5wuqaT wants to be seen. I imagine you know where to look.

Four paragraphs for four songs. Four lyrical anagrams to decipher!

“Hello?” A pause, Jack rested _________ _________ __________ __ _______ ____ regrowth __ ________ ________

There was a group called ‘The Jokers’ – Rick Derringer “Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo”

“____ _______ deny ____ _____ __ ____ _____ __” _ _____ ____ ________ “Only faithful men want death.”

they finally found the wanted man – Styx “Renegade”

Playing with the high one dancing with the devil – Motorhead “Ace Of Spades”

“__ ___ __ we remain _________ __ age,” ___ ____ ___ “Magic __ the unit __ __ _____.”

we’re an image caught in time – Dio “Rainbow In The Dark”

First off, Rocksmith adds some more Dio. After getting a couple different versions of Holy Diver, we’re getting Rainbow in the Dark! If you found Holy Diver a bit too easy for you, then this might be more your speed. Just listening to the solo is making my fingers bleed, and merely thinking about it is giving me bad flashbacks to trying to 5 Star all the on-disc songs in Rock Band 3!

Next up, we have a song that’s definitely seen a few games. After appearing in Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero II, Guitar Hero: Metallica, Rock Band 2, Rock Band: Unplugged, Rock Band for iPhone, DJ Hero (mixed with Groundhog by Noisa), SingStar, and SingStar: Amped (and hey, if we’re getting obscure, it was also in the Metal expansion pack for the Guitar Hero Air Guitar Rocker… thing), Motörhead’s metal classic Ace of Spades finally makes its way to Rocksmith! Finally, Rocksmith is legitimized as a rhythm game! Also, as a first for guitar based video games, it appears as though we’re getting the original 1980 version. Nope it’s the 2008 re-record…

But apparently I am…

Our next track has appeared in significantly fewer games, having it’s only appearance be a cover on the Xbox 360 version of Guitar Hero II. It’s definitely a classic, though! That’s right, it’s Rick Derringer and his hit Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo! This pack is offering awesome riffs up the wazoo, that’s for sure!

“Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo” was first recorded by Johnny Winter in 1970

Oh mama, check out the next one! A re-recorded version of this song appeared as DLC for Rock Band, as well as an on-disc track for Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock. Yet another classic riff is found in Styx’s seminal Renegade! Side note, if this brings us one step closer to finally getting either Come Sail Away or Gowan’s A Criminal Mind in a game, I will be a very happy man.

Check back on Monday to find out the fifth song you’ll be rockin’ out with!

Update: Our final track brings us once more back to the nostalgic well of Guitar Hero II tunes as well as the significantly less nostalgic Guitar Hero: Smash Hits (and hey, since I mentioned it for Ace of Spades, I may as well point out that it was also part of the 80s Rock expansion for that Guitar Hero Air Guitar Rocker thing) AND gives us some more awesome arena rock/hair metal! That’s right, it’s the song that was too hot for Canadian music video station MuchMusic: Cherry Pie by Warrant! While it may not be the most technically complex song in the world, it follows the hair metal pattern of an awesome riff and an even awesome-er solo! I know I’m excited for it!

  1. Some of these are just ridiculously boring looking on bass. I’ll buy Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo and the Dio song but the Cherry Pie and Renegade videos put me to sleep. Ace of Spades is fast but too repetitive looking for my taste.

      1. I watched the video for Renegade and Cherry Pie and just can’t pull the trigger on those two. Too boring looking. The other two are really fun to play. I really wish they’d switch it up a bit and throw in some Stray Cats or Brian Setzer Orchestra to get some other sounds into the game. Some of the vids posted in the Three Days Grace comment sound like they might be really fun. I don’t know that band but we’ll see.

  2. These songs just don’t exist on the x-one version of this game, whats up with DLC on next gen being DAYS late. For reference, does anyone in Canada own these songs on the one? or is everyone made to wait?

  3. Gotta save the cash and pass. 70 years ago next month a Legend was born. The voice of a Natural Mystic blew threw the airwaves.

Holding out in hopes Ubisoft read my request to honor that Iron Lion in Zion. Time is running out.

    One…

  4. man that start the year on good foot missed some triumph, randy rhoads years ( quiet riot or blizzard of ozz ) , children ,of bodom , buckethead , scorpions , skid row ,i really really would like to continue but i might die here

  5. Oh momma I’m in fear for my cash ’cause this DLC is so damn good…
    ::heartbeat, heartbeat::
Wifey’s coming down on me hard cause I’m spending all the dough…

    1. Sadly that song is not in Guitar Hero
Riff Repeater said that it is a song from Guitar Hero
and it is not on the top 40 and also it is not a song from Guitar Hero 1

  6. I suspect the last band could be a big glam rock band like van Halen or white snake. Or I could be a good old rock like frank zappa. Or black sabbath since you know motorhead and dio.

    1. Three out of the five artists are making their debuts in Rocksmith this week.
      Dio = been on rocksmith
fifth unknown song = band has been on rocksmith

  7. Does anyone know when Elisa live stream is?
I don’t know as I never watch one of her live streams
just write how many hours left

  8. I know this is intended to be “Singles,” but I really, REALLY wish that even for just one week that we could buy these as a pack or singles. I’ve spent so much money on this game, and I think 2015 might just kill my wallet. Or I’m going to have to (more reasonably) give up buying songs…which is something I would absolutely hate to do. Le sigh.

  9. already vented my annoyance on the Ubisoft forums. I LOVE Motorhead, they are my favourite metal band and have been for over 20 years, we finally get them and it’s ONE fucking song. BULLSHIT. I’m not even bothering, ubisoft can stick it until they do 5 pack. I am disproportionally annoyed that there is only one song from them. I’ve been wanting them since day one, and to finally get them but with only one track just feels like a piss take. I’m off to play some motorhead from tabs.

      1. Let’s hope that the mysterious song number five is Slayer then shall we?

Then we can all not buy it in protest :grinning:

      1. you just don’t get it do you… it’s my FAVOURITE metal band. To only get one song from them feels like a mockery. Like they don’t think Motorhead deserve their own pack. Playing one song of them and then not being able to play any more would just annoy me as I love them that much, I never play just one song by any of the ones I really like, i always do at least 3. It’s not like they couldn’t have done a pack, they have given rights to several of their songs to games in the past. And no, I’m not ‘refusing’ to buy it out of protest, that would be stupid. I’m passing on it as I don’t want just a one song tease that will leave me annoyed. If they do a 3 pack, I’ll get ace of spades then and have 4 of theirs, but no, I’m not buying a single of my favourite metal band without any others of theirs to play. It’s just not enough. Plus having Motorhead in this pack, alongside those others, is just fricking bizarre. Motorhead are in a totally different league to them. None of the others has been going since the start of metal and are still going (incredibly) strong, so how did they lumped in with those? I’d never even heard of Rick Derringer! It’s just wrong.

        1. First up, apologies for the TL;DR post.

Honky, I can definitely understand your position. But when you look at it from RS/Ubi point of view, they obviously have to be conscious of the request statistics for tracks. They need to think of sales figures and potential earnings.

‘Ace of Spades’ would obviously be one of those songs that would be requested out of proportion to the rest of the Motörhead catalogue. As such, its the first one on here. Sales figures of this single will probably influence further releases of other tracks by the band.

So it’s not so much that RS/Ubi think that Motörhead don’t deserve a pack, its that requests suggest that a pack wouldn’t be a popular as one from Biffy Clyro, Sublime 😉 or Linkin Park.

My suspicion has always been that sales from highly requested groups don’t match the actual sales of DLC. That fan bases, using social media, pump up the requests but don’t actually even play the game, nor in the end buy the DLC.

I have no way to prove this of course. Just from the votes each month on this forum that suggest the bands that cop the most flack from RS fans, both here and in the Ubi forums, tend to be ones that have massive fan bases outside of RS but also pull very weak votes in the TRR polls.

Only sales figures broken down by DLC title would confirm my suspicions. Xbox DLC ranked by all time sales is a bit of a guide to suggest this is the case.

          https://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Rocksmith-2014-Edition/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d802555308c0?SortBy=BestSelling

Weezer for example ranks up there in the all time DLC list, the TRR polls suggest it is a popular band, beating out all but Jimi for DLC of the year, but they aren’t in the top 40 rankings of requests. Same goes for Smashing Pumpkins, Queen, Pantera, etc.

This is where RS/Ubi need to consider indicators outside of request stats to add content. Adding mixed pack singles like this might just be the way to do it… Patience Grasshopper.

        2. Another thing to consider is that just because they gave permission to use one of their songs in the past on a different game doesn`t mean they`ve done it for future releases or for other games. Heck, Sunshine of Your Love was on OG Rocksmith and you couldn`t even get it on the DLC for Rocksmith 2014. I`m with you though, I would love to see more Motorhead, but I would think the best way to get them to put more Motorhead in the game is to buy the single.

  10. Pass. Done a LOT of passing in recent months. Only Foo Fighters 2 and RATM since October.

Would be great to get more interesting things. Idlewild have a brand new album coming out this year, would be amazingly, unbelievably awesome to get some of their stuff. We have form in that we had fellow scots Biffy which was great (shame about the tunings).

Or Feeder. Or Silversun Pickups. Ash. Stereophonics. Manics. Something interesting that isn’t just thrashing.

  11. Good pack. Sat night I was walking to dinner and heard Ace of Spades and thought it should be in Rocksmith. Not long later it was confirmed. Sweet.

  12. This pack will be awesome. I like all the songs so far and I can’t wait to see what the 5th song will be. But so far it looks like I am going to get them all. Motorhead, HELL YEAH!

  13. Now they have to add I Ran (So Far Away)
    but that will never happen
maybe Rime Of The Ancient Mariner
    now I’m pushing it
    no wait
    how about I wanna rock
now I’m just pushing it to far
but I must say I don’t like the songs as much as the last arena pack
for me I got 4 out of 5 from the last pack
    but now for this pack
it looks like 1 out of 4
    don’t know on 5

  14. Lemmy is a legend. Hurry up and take my money! :metal:

If anyone hasn’t seen his doco “Lemmy” from 2010, check it out. A little depressing in places but well worth it.

  15. Good songs, Ace of Spades will be a close insta-buy, the rest eventual pick-up apart from the Styx song. Hoping the 5th song will make me jizz in mah pants.
