Hello Rocksmith fans!

Get ready to tune way down because this week is a three pack from American Rock band @Staind!

As noted in the previous article, this is the first DLC that will feature the original artist tuning (for guitar) on an alternate arrangement and a modified tuning for those that don’t want to tune that low.

I can confirm that Staind is a band a lot of people like, enjoy!

  1. Okay, I bought it and played it. It doesn’t sound terrible through the amp on bass as I feared. It doesn’t sound like it should but a casual player who’s not a fan of the band probably won’t even notice. Now my main objection is that as a dedicated bassist (I don’t own a guitar) it kinda sucks seeing four guitar tracks to only one bass track. I’m usually only getting 1/3 of my “moneys worth” per song compared to guitarists and on these songs its now down to 1/5. If UniSoft can put out four guitar tracks per song I think it would be AWESOME if occasionally we saw an alternate five string bass arrangement.

    1. Following your math, if they included alternate bass arrangements you’d only be getting 1/6 of your “moneys worth”. Guitar tracks are layered in a way bass tracks generally aren’t, suck it up. And that’s coming from a bassist.

  2. Sorry for my ignorance. I do not understand how are this songs can have two very different thunings for the same guitar. Should sound completely different with the no original tuning to not have those low notes, no? Please, can someone explain me?

    1. For the main leads and rhythms that shift the pitch, so that you can play the songs without having an droptune specific guitar with the heavy gauge strings. There’s a pedal that does this too.

  3. Really was looking for Mudshovel. Would have made the pack a buy. Stains ‘s best song by far in my opinion. Actually can’t really stand listening to this band since that album. As far as 5 or 6 string bass, nearly every bass player I know owns one with more than 4 strings. And play them. I personally hope that we get a 7 or 8 string guitar expansion. Get some Animals as Leaders and Conquering Dystopia. Maybe even some Korn. Some Aristocrats would be awesome too.

  4. Dear UbiSoft team, please do not take me not purchasing this pack as an indication that I don’t want quality, down tuned content made more readily available.
I just can’t stand these songs in particular and if I’m honest, the band in general. Too many memories of a mates drunk girlfriend insisting on one of their albums being played repeatedly.

Yes, I’ve flooded the request app ages ago with the songs I’d happily pay $$$ for. However I fear they fail the “Us Charts” *test that seems to be applied to the majority of tracks before getting to a note-tracker.

*Wild ass assumption I know, sorry.

  5. I’ve come to the realization that entirety of Outside is the same Eb-DB-Gb-Bb melody barely embellished throughout. What is he secret of milk?

  6. Super disappointing for some of us bass players. I really wanted this pack but won’t be able to play it as I bypass the in game guitar tones and split off to an amp. SO it will sound super wonky wherever they used the emulated 5 string notes. The game can handle bass tuning as low as A flat so why can’t they add a fifth string for us advanced players who have setup exotic rigs to maximize what RS can do, or have the the proper instrument.

Simple fix, use the 6-string guitar graphics with 5-string bass tuning. If you want to get crazy gray out the last string (but for those of us who want it we wouldn’t even care about that). I know us dedicated bass players are in the minority but it would be nice to get some of the same love they are giving to the guitar parts now. We KNOW the tuning would work, why the devs aren’t using the software to it’s full potential is beyond me.

Unfortunately bass guys like me who would be instabuys for low tuning bands like Staind, FFDP, Slipknot and KoRN are likely to take a pass on them since they cannot be played right.

    1. Well guess what? I agree! Lol. I like your simple fix as well. I think I’m gonna buy this one and give it a try anyway to see how bad it sounds. If its terrible maybe I’ll fool around with it in “learn a song” on the five string and then just pass on future packs with emulated five string bass tones.

      1. Lol are you implying that the 5 or 6 string bass playing community is so miniscule that it’s not worth considering?

        1. Yes actually. Sales of 5 & 6 string bases don’t even rate as 3% of total bass guitar sales.
Factor in the “beginner” aspect that Rocksmith caters for and I dare say the % of total RS users with a 5 or 6 string bass laying around gets comically small.

          1. Sure, but most bass players end up buying multiple basses and many (if not most) of us end up with at least one five string. I was a beginner when I started rocksmith……guess what? ….beginners get better. If Rocksmith wants to help us keep getting better than it needs to raise the bar occasionally by providing new stuff for us to learn.

      2. Woah…..its not Driftwoods narrow and specific needs (as well as myself and a bunch of bass players and seven string guitarists) its the needs of THE SONGS that they chose to put out. The songs call for an extended range bass. I don’t think its outrageous to request charts that allow us to play the songs the way they were meant to be played and doing so on our amps without needing a “tone switch”.

      3. You must play on a console… If not you should do some googling before calling them “radical changes” lol. Even if we are talking console all of the changes would be occurring on the actual DLC files not the actual code of the game.

    2. Dude, it’s a 4 note song. Anyone can play it right.

I get your point and it’s a fair one. But my point is that you picked a terrible example to make the case for extended range instruments.

      1. So can you name any other songs released in this low alternate tuning? Should I make my low tuning point on the next CCR track that is in E? That is why I brought up other habitual downtuner’s ehhhmmm Slipknot.

I bought it anyway hoping it wouldn’t be intolerable…. low and behold there is a steam glitch so 48 hours after release I still cannot download it. Awesome. Wish a dev would read one of these boards. ALL of the steam reviews say cannot even download and no response.
