Rocksmith+ announces Metallica content… It’s region locked

Hello Rocksmith fans!

Hope you are enjoying the Green Day and Muse!

Last night on the Rocksmith discord a new Dev Voices video was shared, this time featuring Shane Gann (Lead Music Library Developer/Hail the Sun/Sufferer/Awesome Guitar Dude) informing us of a song drop coming January 23rd to Rocksmith+

For those keeping track of songs we have by Metallica in the library, currently we have one as in one song, not the song One that is coming on January 23rd!

Thanks Stranger Things

Outside of that we have the DJ Spooky/Metallica mash up from the Spawn Soundtrack, and the two in house covers of Nothing Else Matters and Enter Sandman which will probably both be replaced by the Master Tracks of Metallica on the 23rd.

There’s also covers of Metallica by other bands such as:

Orion by Rodrigo y Gabriela

The Frayed Ends of Sanity by Six Feet Under

Welcome Home (Sanitarium) by Bullet for My Valentine

and of course the almost 1:1 cover of Ride the Lightning by Halestorm

What do all these Rocksmith+ songs share in common?

None of them are available in Canada or the United States!

Just the rip the band-aid off Shane, we can take it…

I guess we should write that VPN article huh?

Now, with all this good news, we need to talk about the Elephant in the room…

Rocksmith+’s subscription price is going up…

Yes, this week (on Monday) Ubisoft announced (through their discord) that the price of the subscription was going up by 40% starting March 4th, 2024.

Which means if you want the old price ($15/$39.99/$99.99) You should subscribe before March 4th!

Prices in USD

The response of course, is less than favourable and Chainbrain did not mince words when it came to taking Ubisoft to task on this decision…

Seems like Rocksmith+ adjusted their price to match their biggest competitor (for learning software at least) Yousician…

Is this the cost of getting Piano and an WMG deal?

Is there any silver lining to this announcement?

Local prices for other territories will be communicated in the next few weeks, along with more details as to what’s to come in future updates for Rocksmith+.

If more details means announcements like Metallica maybe we are in for a great year of Rocksmith+

Is Metallica the kind of content to get you to subscribe/renew your subscription? Or is the price hike leaving a sour taste in your mouth? Let us know, and stay tuned for another song drop and title update on Monday! (January 15th)

UPDATE:

Nothing Else Matters confirmed.

  1. Finally!!! I’m curious to know which are the two songs ???, and I understand that in the future there will be more metallica. Great addition, I have a lot of faith that this year we will have great surprises that will make it worth the price increase.

My speculations are Nothing else matters and Ride the Lightning.

  2. I’ve been a huge Rocksmith supporter from day one of the PS3 release and I gave them a huge benefit of the doubt when RS+ launched to a very mediocre review. I’ve been hoping for a better library and features for over a year and it’s finally starting to come together with some bigger bands and piano support but now with a pretty significant price increase, I feel the days of blind support are over and now we should expect a premium product for a premium price. I bought a keyboard and have been enjoying that and the Green Day and Muse tracks have been getting a lot of attention from me but where is the multiplayer, the leader boards, the mini games!?! I understand that building a new product takes time but once the price goes up, so does our expectations. I truly hope they bring some big value to RS+ and soon. And region locked big gets seems like a slap in the face. Why is a product that’s16 months old still have so far to go to catch up to it’s predecessor?

  3. I enjoy RS+. When they added piano I picked up an 88-key, sustain pedal, stands, stool, etc. My sub expired shortly after so, I reluctantly re-subbed for a year to keep working on piano.

While I’m seeing personal progress, it seems the library has slowed for piano stuff and is focusing more on the covers and bigger names. All good stuff but I may not re-sub next time unless we see some dramatic improvements to library and/or game functionality.

I don’t see a 40% price hike being worth it in its current state. Will keep following updates and hope for the best.

  4. I want to subscribe before the price goes up but the fact that there is no multiplayer and I can’t get big songs because I live in Canada makes me very very reluctant. I will try Tue trial and see how I like it.
