Rocksmith announces New Project, end of Rocksmith Remastered DLC

Hello Rocksmith fans!

Yesterday’s Opeth livestream from home ended unusually…

Instead we were told to check Rocksmith’s News section for some news “for a look at what’s coming more generally for the future of Rocksmith”

Well, the time has come and here is:

THE NEWS

Hello, Rocksmith Players!

We have big news today: The Rocksmith team, both here in Ubisoft San Francisco and globally, is thrilled to finally let you know that we’ve been hard at work on a new project!

To that end, we now need to shift focus away from DLC creation. As of this week’s Opeth Song Pack, Rocksmith Remastered has concluded its scheduled DLC releases. After 383 weeks of DLC releases, this pack brings us to a total of 1570 songs in the Rocksmith library, spanning over 7 decades (or 3 centuries, in the case of Bachsmith) and covering a multitude of genres for guitar and bass. For over a decade, we’ve watched players learn, grow, and constantly surprise us with your talent, creativity, and eagerness to help one another reach your goals. We truly could not be more proud to play a part in this guitar journey with you.

Although we will no longer be releasing new DLC, we still have weekly online content planned for Rocksmith fans. The Rocksmith Dev Stream will continue (in a new format), along with some more surprises. We will also continue to share updates for our new project when we’re ready on our websiteTwitterFacebook, and Instagram.

From everyone at Rocksmith and Ubisoft, we thank you. Your continued support of Rocksmith is humbling, and we can’t wait to start the next leg of our music learning journey together.

The Future of Rocksmith

There you have it a NEW PROJECT! Looks like @Rocksmithgame has some exciting things planned, stay tuned for further updates!

  1. Can anyone tell me why nothing has been said since the announcement? No updates on the status or even a projected date of release. I really am not looking for new information because there isn’t any. I want to know why they will not give out any information to the people who are genuinely interested in Rocksmith. Is this just a game developer thing or is it to not disappoint anyone?

  2. Does this mean the end of Rock smith working? With Steam looking for an online connection when you start up Rock smith they could disable all of it. Unless there is a work around for using offline?

  3. That is a sad way to end it. I am sure the corona virus has something to do with it. Would of been nice to see some kind of farewell content. Like another bachsmith or a mix off the transcription teams favorite songs.

I never posted much here but checking up on Rocksmith has been part of my fridays before work since probably this site started.

I hope we get some news soon maybe even a dev blog took keep interest in the game going.

  4. yooo , imagine that you could create your own songs inside the game , im still hoping for vocals and the drums 😀

  5. This feels so….unceremonious. Like abandoning the current continuity of DLC work rather than closing it off. Maybe that’s because they have huge confidence in what comes next, but this will be inevitably a falling off point for some long time fans who don’t have the means to invest in new hardware or software, especially in the current climate where a lot of people are wondering what the future holds for them economically. I haven’t bought and DLC for a few weeks because nothing was really grabbing me apart from the odd single, and now it doesn’t feel like a priority to spend on entertainment in general, so the prospect of maybe having to shell out for even just a subscription service (hard no) makes me reckon I might well call it a day with Rocksmith, and honestly this was a bit of a weak note to end on.

    1. It is true but it does not have much to do with stopping dlc, it is an external matter of a much more basic software than rocksmith

  6. I’d love a new edition with a tablature view and a sheet music view. The 2014 edition makes the leap to tab a pretty short one, but a more explicit teaching of tab and sheet would be excellent.

    1. Rocksmith IS tab.

Tablature (or tabulature, or tab for short) is a form of musical notation indicating instrument fingering rather than musical pitches

That , in a pretty gui, is exactly what Rocksmith is and always has been. As for sheet music view – ever actually tried to play guitar music, in real time, with just a stave? Tab was invented for a reason. Saves you from guessing which of the 5 possible locations is the most obvious to play any given single note.

      1. Actually tab came first, sheet music pages did not appear before the end of the middle ages. So it’s sheet music view which was invented for a reason: To allow all instruments to use the same notation. So if we are talking about an hypothetical Bandsmith, I guess sheet music view should be included.

    2. “Cool it now
You got to cool it now
      Oh watch out
      You’re gonna lose control
      Cool it now
You got to slow it down
      Slow it down
      You’re gonna fall in love”

Sorry, certain combinations of words trigger an automatic reaction. (My bad, just too much music in my head).

  7. I hope I can still play Rocksmith – I haven’t mastered enough of the DLC I’ve got. I’d probably download more existing DLC when on sale anyway. It has been a great game for me… but I’m happy that there might be something new too…

  8. OMG. Thats some bittersweet news, remind me wen Rocksmith 1 was anounced and some years waiting to put my hands on it. Its good to se some faces again like Nao Higo, makes me think where is Paul Cross hehehe

I have a good feeling about this. Let’s hope for something with online gameplay.

      1. You should create a poll to see what everyone thinks project will turn out to be. I’m thinking like at least 3 main choices. 1 Another version of Rocksmith with enhancements and improvements still using DLC and artist music. 2. A version of Rocksmith with added features like multiple instrument support that is based around music instruction , theory and games not DLC. 3. A completely different version of Rocksmith that uses the note highway model but is based on session mode and creating your own music. I wonder what Paul Cross leaving before this was announced meant to the development but I’m thinking this wont just be Rocksmith 2021 at least for now

  9. Good thing today already sucked, because this just makes the icing on the cake. I’m glad they are working on a something new and pointless to wonder just what since they haven’t given any clues. For me, its totally pointless since I have no interest or intention of getting a new console. I’ve given tons of money through the years on the next “new” console that I just don’t want to go through that again. From Atari on up the ladder, I’ve seen them all. Every time, you have to buy everything again. Good luck Rocksmith guys, I will be playing 2014 on my xbox one until it burns itself out. And I agree with the other guys that a subscription method of dlc would suck.

    1. Hey, how is the load time with Xbox One nowadays? I read a while ago that it could be brutal, depending on how much dlc you had. I have about 500 songs or so on the 360 and that’s been about the only thing keeping me from on getting the One version.

I guess that’s one good thing about the end of dlc releases: now that I know I don’t have to wait for them to release some TOOL, Metallica or whoever,, I can go back and pad my list with other stuff that I was oh so close to downloading before.

Thanks for everything Ubi. Can’t wait to see what you have in store for Rocksmith 2020.;-)

      1. I just go do something else. I have over 1000 songs, so it does take awhile. I’m actually really bummed about them shutting down. I’ve been doing Rocksmith since the original came out. It’s a bummer

    2. who said anything about getting a new console? There won’t be many early adopters for Series X and PS5 so I think there’s a good chance there will be a One version. With Xbox’s backwards compatibility, I wouldn’t be surprised if the old DLC works on a new version as well. You should have gotten the PC version if this worried you this much

    1. Prince is probs my number one… but if we already had Prince, I’d probably be screaming out getting Bowie…

    1. I won’t even countenance signing up to a subscription based model. That said it’s almost guarantee’d that Ubisoft will implement one.

      1. For future reference, I’d honestly prefer approval for my comments wasn’t granted rather than them being edited before being posted. I’d presumed this was a forum of free speech but that’s apparently not the case. Keep on keeping on.

  10. Well – that is vague enough to not be particularly helpful at all. I guess it’s wait and see, and hopefully the current DLC library will remain available for those of us who have been sitting on the fence for some of the previously released material.

    1. Yes the are consistently not forthcoming, however I’m sure they are more than willing to take more money from us. I suspect with the news people might be eyeing the Bill withers Ain’t no sunshine. But what do I know.

  11. this was a very sudden announcement, no? I mean no buildup about there being a “major” announcement coming at like E3 (in June).

It sounds like they are switching to a subscription model. So for 9.99 a month you get access to all songs – which sounds great until you look at the yearly cost of a subscription vs just buying the songs you want.

    1. I hope not. I feel like it’s the mid-80’s all over again, and Bill Cosby is telling me how much more I’m going to like New Coke.

    2. Well there’s was something about a year ago or so where someone On the rocksmith team hinted at something big was in the works but it would take time. I was starting to think that was just lip service. But yeah I would guess that Ubisoft will either do a subscription service like they do with their Just Dance games or give a free copy of rocksmith 2014 with the purchase of this new product so you can still play all your old songs on the next generation hardware which Ubisoft has also done before.

    3. I’m completely against a subscription business and I will certainly not use it. That is a bridge to far for me.

    4. this was the change from rocksmith 1 to rocksmith 2014 XD very sudden and they cut dlc all of a sudden after 2014 came out and the dlc became backward compatible it sounds to me more like going to do the same thing the first time, also it is known that they have Years working on this project did not happen overnight, there were even surveys among fans about what they wanted to see in the future.

  12. Let’s hope for Bandsmith. A bit like Rock Band games back then with singing and drumming (and maybe keys).

  13. Wow. In a way, it’s kind of sad to hear this. I’d have preferred that they end with some sort of 5 song variety or mixed pack that included a little something for everyone. Would have been a classier way to go out. (blues, country, jazz, rock/metal, R&B/gospel)

As for whatever they’re working on, hopefully it does include new arcade games, lessons (that we don’t have to purchase separately), and some way to do session mode online with other players.

Most importantly, if there is a project coming for newer consoles, hopefully whatever we’ve purchased can be easily moved to a new system.

    1. I have a feeling that the old model of dlc and even popular songs will be discontinued and replaced with something that is more about learning music using guitar and bass. Sad to say but this might be the end of dlc forever in a way

      1. why would they change a model that is clearly working? something that has let them continue for several years? If anything, they’ll keep it the same but just add stuff. Rocksmith is really lacking in tools to help you learn guitar outside of learning songs. The lessons are too basic. And the arcade games aren’t as helpful as other methods.

  14. Damn. I wish they could keep producing dlc until the new project was finished. On the other hand I hope what ever it is, is awesome & hopefully will let me use some more of the instruments I own. It had a good run though. Such is life.

  15. I can’t believe DLC is done for this platform but everything has to end and given the current state of the world seems pretty small. If I had to predict a new related project that will not link with the old library will come out by next Spring or Summer. I’m excited and thankful for all the songs we got in the past
