Rocksmith Europe Release: “Not until 2012.. Import at own risk.”

Today was a sad and albeit frustrating day for anyone outside of North America that decided to pre-order Rocksmith.

After months of avoiding the thousands of Facebook posts inquiring about Rocksmith’s Europe release the silence finally ended today with an update on both the Rocksmith page and Rocksmith Canada‘s page.

Hi Rocksmith Fans-

As many of you know, Rocksmith will not be available in Europe until 2012. This is due to music licensing and other external factors.
For those of you in Europe who plan to import the game, we want to advise you to do so at your own risk. Here’s some information that may help you with your decision:

-The XBOX 360 version of the game is region locked.
-The PS3 version of the game is not region locked, but doesn’t support PAL.
-The PSN store is region locked, and therefore you will not be able to download DLC outside of your region.

Please know that we are working hard to ensure that everyone in Europe can get their hands on Rocksmith as soon as possible! Thanks for the continued support!

Rocksmith went on to clarify:

To clarify: the region locked XBOX 360 version will function properly in North, Central and South America. The PS3 version will work anywhere, but the PSN store will only provide the DLC to North, Central and South America.

So it’s clear that Xbots are out of luck till 2012 but what does this mean for Playstation3 users?

  • DLC will not be available to you unless you create an US based PSN account and buy an US based PSN card off eBay.
  • If you connect to your TV using composite cables then you won’t be able to play Rocksmith (correct me if I’m wrong about this please).

Although this news is coming a week before release you still have to hand it to Ubisoft for outlining the restrictions for those that want to import the game.

Has this information made you cancel your pre-order? Are you willing to wait for the official Europe release or will you find a “way around it” and why is this delay occurring? Is it because of music licensing or is it because of the amount of money needed to invest in a international release?

I can assure you though that it has nothing to do with this

  1. Come on boys n girls – comparing Guitar Hero to Rocksmith is like comparing Mario Kart with real-life driving…

I imported this to the UK for my kids, both of whom are learning the guitar, this was absolutely the best thing that happened to them as learners. Fair enough I cant get the DLCs but there are tons of things on the disc to keep them occupied meanwhile. It plays flawlessly through HDMI and I haven't got a single complaint about it. My kids can learn complex songs a note at a time and up the difficulty as it suits them.

    1. A sensible comment, finally.

A perfect comparison, Kart to driving; too many fanboys nowadays.

A friend of mine imported the game to the UK – it's the most fun I could ever have. I play guitar regularly, but I'm no good with solos or single notes, etc. I only do rhythm guitaring. So this game was a godsend to me, but also I can see it helping total beginners too.

I'm tempted not to wait to see if it may or may not come out, it'll work on PS3 no problem, and if I wanted I could easily get a US account to get the DLC.

    1. Hi Mathias,

I ordered the US version, and it should be delivered to me soon. Now, i'm planning to buy an HD TV in the future, but right now I only have a non-HD TV.
So, my question is did the US VERSION work on your EUROPEAN TV through the composite cable?

      Thanks!

      1. I'm in the netherlands. I bought my PS3 here.
My TV is NOT HD, so I connect the PS3 through the composite cable.
The TV, however, is multisystem, so when Rocksmith starts it goes blank for a second and says something about the system. Then the game begins.
Make sure your TV can handle both PAL and NTSC, and you should be fine.

  2. I live in Sweden, and I've read that there will be a PC-version of this game coming out at december 13th. Should I be able to play that even if I live in Europe?

    Appreciate your help!

  3. While I'm happy that people like Rocksmith, wouldn't it be better to give it its own feed and let this one remain specifically for Guitar Hero?

      1. I see. I just find it a bit strange I guess. I understand that there really isn't that much Guitar Hero news to publish at the moment.

The good news is that rechecking the Facebook page the representative there has literally gone as far as to CONFIRM that there will be another game at some point, just not this year. I'm sure you are already aware of that though.

My main concern now is what kind of game that may end up being. I know that the "real instrument" thing is really popular at the moment, and I'm fine for it to be included, but I prefer the game for the fun rhythm side and vocals more than anything.

Also, I just get so sick of the fanboys and trolls forcing it to live in Rock Band's shadow as though they don't even value any competition. They are so conceited that not even Rise of the Six String or Rocksmith seem to be worth their time.

  4. Again, you may want to reflect on who's actually being the pompous dick around here. I'm sorry if you can't understand that what you're saying makes you a greedy and petty douchebag

    1. Man shut your mouth, is your mouth always running like this?

I said what I had to say, if you got a problem with that then I don't give a shit

      1. You're an idiot, if there is no news on Guitar Hero, what can they do? Make up news?

"Enough time has passed so there shouldn’t be any excuses" How about this valid excuse: THERE ISN'T ANY NEWS.

  5. Says the guy that is complaining that a GH news site isn't posting GH news because there's no GH news. I guess they have two options – one, lie to you and say there's a game coming with no information so they can please you, or two, post information when they get GH information. Call me crazy, but I don't think you flipping out and being a total ponce is gonna get you information any faster, alright?

In short, you may want to reflect on who's actually being the pompous dick around here. Shame the world doesn't cater to you

    1. Excuse me but I am only stating what is obvious here, Elliot is just being a freaking dick and so are you. Enough time has passed so there shouldn't be any excuses….

Rocksmith will down right fail and I'm pretty sure many would agree with me

  6. SO What! The game is going to fail anyways! The Hero Feed needs to focus on Guitar Hero not selling out to Rocksmith!DUMB

    1. I hate to say it but I'm gonna have to agree with him, if this is The "Hero" Feed it should talk alot more about Guitar Hero should it?….instead of giving so much hype to a game that probably will fail (that's just my oppinion), shouldn't you be invistigating to see if another Guitar Hero title will be out?

I may be wrong but didn't Activision join up with TheHeroFeed to start those community nights that are doing so well? you would think that we would have had answers already if Guitar Hero is long gone or not, not only that you probably would have had way more people joining TheHeroFeed of its news and content if you would at least give us some more background on where Guitar Hero is standing. We all know that it's on hiatus supposedly but I think we have waited long enough, we should have answers already….

Is a new Guitar Hero game being developed or not? At least give us a hint (-_- )

      1. Are you serious? It's been announced endless times. GH is no more. It's sad cause it was an awesome game(s), I wish it hadn't, but it's finished now.

    2. I think many would agree with me if I say that people joined TheHeroFeed to know more news about GH and not other games….

it's understandable that TheHeroFeed can't have much news of GH due to it being discontinued but some time has already passed, I think you guys could have dug up more info about it on where it stands….

simply saying hiatus wont do any good, we know that….

      1. You're right- in fact we are sending a mole into Activision right now to find out exactly what is going on with the next Guitar Hero. Her name is Nina Myers and we hope she uncovers some exciting info for us.

    3. Yeah um… Guitar Hero has been discontinued… There's no more Guitar Hero games coming out. Face it. Guitar hero is fun – for plastic controller gaming. You're not selling out by going to Rocksmith, you're simply wanting to learn real guitar instead of becoming an expert on pressing five buttons whilst clicking another button at the same time.

  7. Most modern TV sets support both an NTSC & PAL signal (really any set since the late 90's should be fine), but your user manual should confirm that.

Not supporting PAL is common place for any game coming out of the U.S., given that broadcast / production etc. is in the NTSC format, but I would say if you have ever imported a game before from the States on the PS3 and it worked, you shouldn't have any issues.

I can't speak specifically on the composite cable situation though – my PS3 is through HDMI & Optical Digital for sound.

Thankfully the least worrying thing about this announcement is about accessing the DLC – plenty of places online to buy PSN store credit – but still, it's a bummer for the delay to happen – "Rock Band" died a very quick death over here after it was delayed by nearly a year due to the same "licensing issues" & "Rock Band 2" was never released at all – again, due to "licensing issues" (but somehow still managed to be released in New Zealand).

My opinion is that Ubi are likely looking to see how successful it is locally before investing the money in launching it internationally – as much of an annoyance it is for those in EU / AU / NZ etc. if it was my money, I'd be doing the same thing.

      1. Oddly enough I knew that you must be Australian instantly by what you said. I was actually quite shocked when I discovered that Rock Band 2 never even had a proper release there, though perhaps I shouldn't be surprised considering all the negatives surrounding that game that fanboys choose to ignore. Say what you want about Activision, but their system and region releases were pretty brilliant compared to most publishers.
