Rocksmith Gets Funky Next Week!

Well, all right, starchild Citizens of the universe, recording angels We have returned to claim the pyramids Partying on the mothership I am the mothership connection…

Whoa ok, I got a little bit too into next week’s Rocksmith DLC for a second but I have descended from the mothership to tell you that “we’ve got a real type of thing going down, getting down” can you dig it baby? Let’s get FUNKY.

This can be only be Parliament!

Wikipedia states:

“Parliament was originally The Parliaments, a doo-wop vocal group based at a Plainfield, New Jersey barbershop.”

That wraps up what band it is, but unfortunately we aren’t 100% sure on the song by P-Funk, so for now we are going to go with, Give Up The Funk.

If you had a bass handy you already probably know what this is… However the clue is pretty interesting so let’s shed some light on that.

“After entering the United States Navy to avoid conscription after he dropped out of high school, (Rick) James went AWOL and relocated to Canada where he resumed his music career. While there, James formed the rock-soul fusion band Mynah Birds, whose lineup once included a young Neil Young.”

Come on, you know that this can only be Rick James’ hit single Super Freak!

Finally, we have this very recognizable bass line from the #1 hit R&B single of 1979, Good Times by Chic.

So are you ready for the Funk? Bassists rejoice, but guitarists may be left out this week, good thing we have the Avenged Sevenfold and Rush DLC to keep us occupied!

On a personal note… Come on Ubisoft give us the Maggot Brain we deserve!

YABBA!

  1. Gee, it’s only been five years….MORE FUNK please Rocksmith!!! Seriously, and a JB song stuck in a mix pack every few years doesn’t count. EWF2, Brick, Brass Construction, The Meters, The Commodores, The Brothers Johnson, The O’Jays, Black Heat, Con Funk Shun, Rick James, Slave, Rufus…….

    1. Yeah, they really need to explore this more. Throw in some Zapp, Cameo, AWB, and Ohio Players as well. The JB thing baffles me as they’ve released 1 song, meaning they probably have the ok for more. Could be waiting on some anniversary type date, similar to how they did Marley. They released a song and then waited for a date that had some significance–minor significance in my opinion. (Considering his music is more celebrated during the month of February, I’m not sure why they waited until April.)

Anyway, it’s been over 5 years. Rocksmith needs to get Funkdafied.

  2. “Hey Guitar Buddies” (<–season and let it marinate)

Had to revisit this. 5 years on and while we may be "pecking lightly, like a woodpecker with a headache", we're still at the door waving that P-Funk flag high. It appears Maggot Brain is gaining popularity. In January 2018 a guy in Europe released 2 videos teaching Maggot Brain, note for note. These two videos will take you up to about 3 1/2 minutes into the song.

    Goooooooooo Maggot Brain.

    1. I wish that the love the community seems to have for this one song would carry over to the genre as a whole as well. Lol

      1. As i followed the Ubisoft Forums thread this morning, it felt like a warning shot was fired. Once the room came upon a picture of London in the clue for this weeks DLC, a couple of people threw in P-Funk as a guess. https://forums.ubi.com:443/

Had to pause for a moment.

  3. Super Freak was one of the songs I requested a few weeks ago, the system works! HAHAHA! Awesome!

It was actually the very last request of a long list, nevertheless on my list.

    CHARLIE MURPHY! HAHAHAHA!

  4. imagine if people thought that way about all companys. if you make a product that i dont like i wont by anything!!!! sounds as rational as a 16 year old girl

    1. Interesting philosophy, considering how a boycott actually works. I feel like you lack of abstract though will be your ultimate downfall in this cruel world…

      In other words:
      boycott [ˈbɔɪkɒt]
      vb
(tr) to refuse to have dealings with (a person, organization, etc.) or refuse to buy (a product) as a protest or means of coercion to boycott foreign produce

The key words here are ORGANIZATION and PRODUCT, as in ROCKSMITH and DOWNLOADABLE CONTENT.

…and before you take a dimwitted zing at me for teaching you English vernacular…yes, you can feel free to boycott me.

  5. I am not buying this stupid funk DLC, it has no business being in a ROCK game. You should have thought about naming the game something else. I consider this a infringement on MY beloved genre of music. Furthermore, to show my distaste for Ubisoft putting funk in a ROCK game, I am boycotting them for anything other than something that is truly good, and I mean REALLY good. Ubisoft, you are going to have to earn my money from this point forward. Since Rocksmith first came out, I was all about buying ALL DLC to support the game, even DLC I did not care for, but no more! NO MORE YOU HEAR ME!! You have pushed it too far with this one! From now on, I will only buy something that is truly good, and it best be top shelf. I will be rigid, and unforgiving with my standards in DLC from now on. It surely is not my loss, there are tons of sources for learning songs. The only thing that will happen is that I will have more money in the bank, and less in yours Ubisoft!

    1. I'm glad to see more content that will be hella-fun on bass. I think I'll start buying all of the DLC in order to offset your boycott.

      1. Well, you spilled a hot mess of bull-jazz all over the page here, and now your upset that somebody called you out on it? I hated previous DLCs (3 Doors Down, My Chemical Romance, Evanescence), but you win some and you loose some, man. It's kinda like when the Beatles started letting Ringo sing songs. Nobody in their right mind would have bought that "Octopuses Garden" as a single, but it was on "Abbey Road" so you had to tough it out. Besides, where is your sense of adventure? The Funk is out there floating around like bundle of juicy supernova waiting for your delicate fingers to dig deep into the sticky rhythmic core of her soul and pull out a bunch of maxed out dope nasty bass grooves and guitar vamps to impress all the sensual she-beasts living in your microcosm. Its the future, dude. Don't let Armin drag you down.

  6. I understand the angle they are taking bringing great a variety of music to ROCKsmith, but at a certain point you can have too much. Especially when it is only a small release every two weeks. I wish they could release one song of multiple genres every two weeks. That way myself and others don't loose so much interest in release after release of music I don't care for. Even more so when I love Rocksmith so much and end up buying the music I don't like just to keep things fresh. Which I often regret because the guitar riffs are really light lame or very bendy(which doesn't register accurately in game).

    My suggestion would be release:
    one Heavy rock
    one classic rock
one esoteric (Funk, Blues, Pop, Country, other)

I think it would keep everyone happy and bring people back to the game bimonthly instead of once every 3 or 4 months buying and playing more.

Avenged Sevenfold was a game saver for me, I just hope it isn't another 3months before I get another.
(side note: why don't heavy metal bands get a 5 song release. I mean really Queen… 6min song with only 2min of guitar… who ok'd that.)

    1. Spilling truth all over the place. I am not a metal head, but I do semi-agree with this proposal. I do like the variety ROCKSMITH offers, however I would like to see larger packs. Maybe with a dice roll bonus song added to the pack only at upload….example, This week ROCKSMITH is release a Jimi Hendrix pack….Foxy Lady, Hey Joe, Purple Haze, and this weeks bonus song is……(drum roll)….Luau by "Drive Like Jehu".

  7. Will be a good workout for the bass. As for the guitar side, at least Good Times may be good practice for the funky strumming.
