Seems like there are more Unofficial Announcements these days than real ones from Rocksmith 2014.
Yesterday, Orange Amps released a statement about the addition of their gear in Rocksmith 2014. The following is an excerpt from the PR:
The game features a range of Orange Amps including the Rockerverb, Tiny Terror, AD and OR series amps plus speakers such as the PPC412 and OBC810. These can be used to play over 50 new songs, in a range of new modes, using a completely redesigned interface and includes classic amp modelling and tracks by Orange artists including Rush, Deftones and Mastodon. Plus for the first time ever you can jam with a virtual band that dynamically reacts to what is played by the guitarist through the chosen amps.

Wait a second, we knew about Mastodon with Blood and Thunder, but Rush and Deftones are definitely new!
What Rush song are you hoping it will be?
Here is the only good Deftones song, because Maynard.
Wouldn’t the Rush songs be the ones that are already available in Rocksmith?
That would be my guess prior to guessing new songs.
As for Deftones, ooh there’s a few from Around the Fur or Adrenaline I’d like to play.
Engine No. 9 and 7 Words.. Headup and Around the Fur!
My guesses are “My Own Summer (Shove It)”/”Hole in the Earth” and “The Trees”/”The Spirit of Radio”.
For Deftones, my guess will either be Change or Hole in the Earth. For Rush, my guess will either be Spirit of the Radio or Freewill.
Let’s stick to English 2.0 and discuss the rumor.
Interesting how Elliott likes to shit on people saying that the Rocksmith 2014 setlist/artists are bad, yet he goes and bashed Deftones in this writeup.
Interesting how I can still enjoy music in the context of a video game such as Rocksmith without crying about it and making blanket statements about how “nobody is going to buy it,” or “wow Rocksmith song pciker guy shud be fired! all crap pop songs,”
See the difference?
Opinion and nothing more, friend. 🙂
Yet again Elliot and I see eye to eye on the musical selections! 😈 Gotta admit I’m not a Deftones fan either. I’m certainly not stubborn enough that I can’t change my ways though. Maybe Rocksmith can change that for me. Any standout tracks by the Deftones that I might have missed along the way? What’s their ‘best’ album?
Around The Fur and White Pony seem to be the go-to picks.
Says the guy with the Good Burger avatar.
Conventional wisdom would say the Deftones song is My Own Summer which would mean drop C which would excite me greatly. But who knows.
My Own Summer is in drop C# (or drop Db, whatever you want to call it). All of Around The Fur is in that tuning. All of White Pony is in drop C. Adrenaline is in standard and drop D. Self-titled and later albums are 7-string and 8-string territory.
Stephen can never stick with a tuning.
I’m hoping for Freewill by Rush…
Freewill would be be pretty fantastic but … I’m so hoping that it turns out to be The Trees. Hands down my favorite Rush track.
Yes – the Trees or Closer to the Heart.
Closer to The Heart would be a great pick! Also, cool name
The set list for this game is so awful. I hope the session mode is worth it.
What? I don’t think I understand this comment?
Which songs/artists would you prefer then?
From the Nuggets or Pebbles box set collections!
Don’t encourage him/her. You ask what songs somebody prefers instead of what’s on there and you’re gonna get a list of 50 f–king death-metal bands nobody besides that person, the band members themselves, the band member’s parents (maybe) and like 10 other people have ever heard of.
Like anyone has heard of half these bands? Splashh, Gold Motel, B’z, Fang Island, Magic Wands, Paws and Minus The Bear!?
Where is Stevie Ray Vaughn, Johnny Cash, Richie Sambora, Zak Wylde, Jimmy Page, Tom Morello? Even the bigger name artists are album filler, Sixteen Saltines, X-Kid etc.
I’d love to know the rationale for the songs that were picked. For example do they each emphasise a different guitar technique? Or are they just cheap to license, Paul Cross’ buddies or users of Orange equipment etc. The set list just looks really weak to me.
Most amusing to me is Bush – Machinehead. A British, multi-platinum selling band in America that nobody in Britain has ever heard of.
Ask people in Japan if they’ve heard of B’z
I asked a Japanese person and he said “Yes, but where is Stevie Ray Vaughn”!? True story.
I’d love some SRV as well, glad we got a song that he’s on as DLC for now though.
Seven bands does not comprise half the setlist.
Johnny Cash would be boooooring as hell, it’ll be a cold day in hell before Led Zeppelin licenses any of their music for a video game, but the other’s I’ll give you. Problem is that no matter what they do, they’re never gonna please everybody. Personally I think that, when taken with the on-disc songs and DLC from the first Rocksmith, they got a pretty diverse mix going. But again, that’s just me, and obviously there’s no possible way to put every band and every song that every customer wants in the game.
There are some enormous bands with big hits here. The Kinks, Bob Dylan, Alice Cooper, Kiss, Nirvana, and Queen, just to name a handful. Even so, this game isn’t just a karaoke machine, it’s a learning tool. The songs are put in here not just to entertain, but to teach. If a song implements a technique very well, there’s no reason it shouldn’t be in the setlist.
