Speculation: Matchbox Twenty headed to Rocksmith 2014 next week

Greetings Rocksmith 2014 fans, and welcome to the final speculation post of March! Not straying too far from this week’s DLC (decade wise) it’s looking like Matchbox Twenty will be the latest new addition to the Rocksmith catalog.

Today we have received three hints regarding next week’s DLC:

Which would have been fine, but then @SquirellyNinja chimed in…

Great, I have to research what a LitBlog is? Luckily, wildeye from r/rocksmith found something I couldn’t.

Andrew Gallix is the editor of 3:AM Magazine and the founder of the world’s first literary blog. He teaches at the Sorbonne University and writes for a variety of publications including the TLS, theGuardian and Dazed & Confused. He is Anglo-French and divides his time between London and Paris.

So the magazine is called 3 AM… What’s a band related to 3 AM? Or wait, maybe it’s a song!

I can assure you that this clue isn’t about Cream or Eric Clapton, it’s just Paul pointing us towards an album entitled The White Room.

Which means that the first clue must point towards this!

What should the other three songs be?

Are you excited for the post-grunge stylings of Matchbox Twenty? Or are you still trying to forget about Rob Thomas? Let us know!

  1. So tired of the same famous “guitar band favorites”. MB20 is the first band I’ve been interested in all RS2014. I’ve bought a bunch of DLCs just because they’re there and it’s pretty cheap.

I really, really, REALLY hope “How far we’ve come” is on there. “Crutch” is a one of MB20 best gutar songs. Check it out if you haven’t.

  2. I wish “Bright Lights” would be a part of the pack, although i’m more interested in that track for the vocals. I learned that song over a year ago and love it.

  3. to all the emo kids that think a day to remember is metal get a clue and go somewhere else and to the old fogies who still play video games you’ll never get pink floyd or zeppelin wanna know why cause they own their music and there not giving up to a video game so keep playing your air guitar on a stairway to hell 😈

    1. or, y’know, just play what you like and ignore people who don’t think you “get” music. that works for most professional musicians as well as hobbyists.

  4. I’m really not a big Matchbox 20 fan, but I do remember being really pissed Jaded and 3AM weren’t in their Rock Band pack. I don’t like those songs enough to pay $3 a piece for ’em though.

  5. Once again, i’m glad for the people who like that band… but :
    That’s one more pop-honey-mainstream-easyinyourears band.
i’d really some bands less commercial, less mainstream… some music for people who like music you don’t have to listen on radio when you are doing your weekly shopping at the supermarket.

    1. let me guess your the only person in the world that wants to play minor threat in a video game and call matchbox 20 quote mainstream well buddy all music is mainstream and if you want to play that unknown stuff just put your finger on the 1 and 3 frets and go nuts with chords and you won’t have to spend a nickle

      1. I fucking love Minor Threat, but I imagine their guitar parts would be pretty boring. However, I’m a bit confused by your assertion that all music is mainstream. Care to elaborate?

      1. i would love to get naveed but like the other person said there not giving up their license when a band owns their songs and their not desperate for money there not giving them up

  6. This is becoming insulting. I understand reasons behind not getting big name stuff such as AC/DC, Floyd, Metallica, Zeppelin etc but I feel like most of the DLC has been pretty generic. Personally I’m hanging out for Sabbath but I don’t see it happening.

    1. I’m in the same boat. Sabbath would make my world. I don’t know much about licensing and all, but at least Metallica and AC/DC have shown willingness to work with music games in the past. Perhaps someday they’ll come to Rocksmith. I mean, really learning the songs is better than button mashing, right? haha

  7. Who? Never heard of them. Like last weeks. I checked them out on youtube, I don’t get it, it sounds pretty vapid and standard to me, but that’s just my opinion, I don’t expect everyone to agree of course. Do you have to be american to know these bands or something? I’m pleased that some people are happy, but that’s 3 weeks in a row with only one song (that Heart one was ok) for me. I can’t like it all, but I hope there’s something a bit more universally known soon. There are so many already in the game that deserve a full pack, like Alice cooper, Bowie, Nirvana, Chili peppers, Living Colour, Satriani (I love a challenge)…yes I know this isn’t a request page, just pointing out the awesome bands they have, that have no DLC packs. i wonder why? They clearly have some arrangement in place.

    1. I’m guessing you are from the UK, where MB20 were never very popular. Their first album was certified diamond in the US and multi-platinum in Australia, Canada, and NZ. That means it sold well over 10 million copies. Their next few albums were multi-platinum. They may be generic-sounding, and I’m not really a fan, but it’s also not really accurate to say they are unknown.

      1. i confirm, 39 millions albums sold in the entire world..
that seems pretty incredible for me, as here in France, it seems almost unknown.
and for once, it’s a good thing we ignore that band… really not my taste.

  8. Matchbox 20 u rippa!
I love this band.. I would like to see plenty of 90s rock. seems to be some haters on here over DLC.. everyone has different taste sorry guys but deal with it.. I think Rocksmith is doing a good job of providing various groups/eras/genres and so on, keep it up. My fav DLC thus far is anything Nirvana, offspring, oasis, smashing pumpkins <3 goo goo dolls would be really cool too.. just sayin…

  9. Let me guess to all the middle age men who still play video games and everyone else goingthrough a midlife crisis who are bashing a very talented band check their record sales don’t take my word

you all want more dead 70s hippy garbage and the rest want my sissy mary emo garbage who think their metal and don’t even know what distortion is

yes i bashed the hellout of that emo crap and now i’m defending real music since i haven’t seen any on this game in months

    1. reading these comments remind me why society is dumb

1 out of 10 praised a day i wish not to remember and 6 out of 10 are bashing one of the mid 90s early 00s best bands oh that’s cause its not classic crap the requests for bands is amazing you people have no idea how obtaining a license to use a song it costs $$$ lots of it

      1. Reading your comments remind me of how dumb society is… And it’s a painful reminder. You didn’t use any punctuation and your opinion consists of sentance fragments and run ons. That makes it very hard to understand what point you’re trying to make. By the way, there are three forms of there (their, they’re).

        Their = possesive,
They’re = contraction of THEY ARE (the one you should have used)
There = a noun, typically reffering to a place

Its understandable to make mistakes from time to time but you’re (YOU ARE not YOUR) dumb as dog shit.

    2. Music sales have no bearing on how good a band is, unless you think that Justin Bieber is more talented than the many great bands that go less recognized….

      1. I mostly agree. I think that music sales generally don’t mean anything because like you said, all these stupid pop stars would thus be making the best music. However, when you have less mainstream bands consistently pulling down Gold/Platinum albums for 30+ years *cough, cough, Rush, cough*, I think then it tells you something.

  10. I can’t remember any matchbox 20 songs. If I heard it I’d probably remember it, but they were always a completely forgettable radio garbage band.

        1. I didn’t even know that.
          But I still don’t see how it’s matchbox 20.
It seems like they are really reaching here.

        2. The actual statement is pertaining to artists “not on the 2014 disc” therefore The Cure could theoretically happen, but we haven’t seen a repeat artist pack as of yet.

    1. Yes, because no one is listening to Def Leppard, Hendrix, Metallica, the Beatles, or ACDC anymore either. You are correct in suggesting that music and bands should be a limited time interest only.

      1. I listen to music from all time periods, from 1920’s jazz to 80’s hardcore punk to 90’s third-wave ska to whatever. Matchbox 20, to me, does not seem like a band that holds up after its radio heyday. There are tons of other bad 90s bands that sound just the same that I haven’t heard in years, and I never hear Matchbox 20 anymore either. I’ve certainly never heard them compared to any of the bands you’ve just mentioned.

    2. People that can’t stand the crap music that mostly comes out these days. I mean, Five Finger Death Punch is one of the most famous Metal bands right now, and they’re terrible. I’d rather listen to the classics and the bands I grew up on in the 90s. A lot of the rock definitely had a pop twinge to it, but it least it was good.

      1. Yup. And there’s nothing wrong with a pop twinge–it plays well on guitar and it’s appealing to many. As cool as it would be to see an older band like Iced Earth or Acid Bath or something, I’d also be pumped to see a more recent pop metal band like Torche, that would have fun riffs and get some exposure for a slightly smaller band.

          1. On the other hand, I’m not sure Rocksmith can handle the Dax Riggs satanist lyrics, as awesome as that would be….

  11. Awesome! Personally, I’m very excited for this pack. I know that not everyone is (clearly), but keep it up Rocksmith! The variety between packs is quite good.

    I’d love:
    1) Real World
    2) Push
    3) 3 AM
    4) Disease
    5) Bent

No matter what they are, I’m pretty sure I’ll buy this first thing Tuesday. I’ll be pretty sad if “Real World” doesn’t make the cut though.

  12. Matchbox 20??? Lol,Rob Thomas is so so over rated. That vibrato voice is mega irritating, sounds like he’s going to breakdown and cry. He need to man up and grow a pair. A comedian described his voice the best as a person singing out a car window as they drive by. I can understand women getting all mushy over him, saying “He’s so sensitive” and “He touches me emotionally in places I never knew I had”. Guys on the other hand…the only reason that makes sense to me is to score points with that certain person you trying to get to know better, then by all means… more power to you. The only song that I can remotely tolerate is Bad 2 Good, but I’m open to suggestions, I’m not totally closed minded but the songs that have been mentioned so far? No!!!

      1. Oh…ok then, so who are the guitar and bass player I should be so aware of? Cause the only name that I ever known associated with Matchbox 20 is Rob Thomas. If they’re all that then I’ll give the band a second look. Just could never really get passed the singing…shoulders hurt to much from cringing.

    1. I don’t consider R.T. to have a distinctive vibrato at all – it’s more like a twang (plus his non-word vocal fill mannerism). You should check out Feel, Stop, I’ll Believe You When, and The Difference. I think those offer some divergence from their trademark 90’s sound.

      1. Well HolyHandGrenade I stand corrected. Your suggestions were well received. I never heard any of those song before and they had some substance to them except for that last one… I think you threw that one in on purpose. to much of that “twang” for me.

        1. I prefer the second half of The Difference (it’s a 2 parter, if you didn’t get that far), but yeah, it does have a lot of “on a late-a-night drive”, “evray word you neva said” type thing going on. I also didn’t notice this until recently but quite a few of their songs have female backing vocals. Also, from their recent album North, Kyle Cook does vocals for The Way.

  13. I love Matchbox Twenty! Coldplay and Matchbox Twenty were the two main bands that made me want to learn to play guitar. 🙂

If they do actually release this Matchbox Twenty pack, then this will be my first Rocksmith DLC that I will insta-buy. I don’t think there is any way to go wrong with any of their songs.

  14. ahh finally i don’t care what any of you say after last weeks piece of crap emo crybaby music rocksmith has restored faith they still know real music one of my all time favorite bands any songs they put up i’m buying em very pleased good job rocksmith

  15. OH YES!! One of my favourite bands, so seriously excited. Here’s hoping for Unwell, Real World and How Far We’ve Come!

  16. I guessed Harvey Danger… I missed that shot, but I’m a big fan of the clue trail. I hope they keep that up.

Matchbox Twenty DLC will be fun… but now Harvey Danger’s on my mind I’m going to go submit that on the RS request page…

  17. another week with mediocre band as DLC. I’ll definitely pass on this one. Waiting for more indie/alternative stuff, especially British.

  18. I’m going with these choices based on DLC from other games and assuming 3AM would be impossible to license.

    Real World
    Bent
    Unwell
    How Far We’ve Come
    She’s So Mean

If it ends up being a 3 pack, I predict Real World and Unwell will not be in the pack (namely being exactly the same as the Rock Band pack).

    1. So tons of DLC ranging from classic rock to modern metal gets released for Rocksmith, with a large variety in artists like Heart, Kiss, Iron Maiden, Rise Against, Evanescense, The Who and many more bands, but this one band… now they’ve gone too far and apparently, no more good DLC will ever be released in the span of who knows how much longer? Healthy attitude.

      1. indie bands like what? I count like 4 dlc is from indie rock since RS started. But hey as long as we’re getting loads of crap mainstream bands, no one cares (no, I’m not saying all DLC bands are crap or mainstream nor implying every mainstream band is crap or that every indie band is good). 🙄

          1. I didn’t say RS actually released them, it’s just those are the only two genres anybody ever requests on here is all.

          2. Umm…Arctic Monkeys, Minus the Bear, Radiohead, R.E.M., The Shins, Weezer, the Pixies, just off the top of my head….

          3. Wait, just DLC? Um…Radiohead, Vampire Weekend, the Shins, the Strokes, the Cure, Modest Mouse, the Pixies, Smashing Pumpkins, Weezer, R.E.M….actually, that’s fewer than I would have expected….

  19. while i’ve never been a big fan of Matchbox 20, I’d be up for learning some of their stuff. Real World and 3AM are pretty good.

  20. I think M20 would be pretty cool. I was never big into them, never owned any of their albums, but I realize that I know all of the songs posted in this video just from being a 90s kid. 3am, Push, Bent, Real World and Unwell would be a great pack. I imagine one of them will be missing though probably in favor of something newer. Can’t remember which song of theirs was always on in the electronics section of Target a few years ago, but I would recognize it if I heard it I think.

  21. Awesome, one of my favorite bands! Haters gonna hate on them, and actually I’m OK with that. I didn’t care for some of the previous DLC myself, but I love the fact that they’re releasing weekly song packs. You can’t please all of the people all of the time, but I think they’re doing a fine job with their selections so far.

  22. My guess:

    3 AM
    Unwell
    Real World
    Mad Season
    Bent

She’s So Mean is also possible seeing how Green Day, R.E.M., Aerosmith, etc… have had songs from their most recent album

(But honestly, I’d love to see Argue, Feel, and Girl Like That)

  23. Boooo! Until recently I was buying at least 2 dlc’s a month. Another pass I’m afraid, if the speculation is true.

  24. I dont like the mat all !!!!!! Flagpole Sitta would have been sick!!!!!!!!!! First one I won’t get since the very fist RSVP dlc. I don’t like incubus but I got it because it was the only one I didn’t have. I guess I will have to pass on this one and accept that I won’t have all the collection. To me this is where I draw the line. Matchbox’ success has always been a mystery to me.

    1. As a huge Incubus fan can you explain what you don’t like about them for curiosity’s sake? I love Incubus. I am not as big on their older rap metal stuff, but they have such a diverse catalog that I can’t imagine someone who really appreciates music disliking them (or only them out of everything on the RS soundtrack). Make Yourself is one of my all time favorite albums and their band in general is just mixed so well. Morning View is also excellent as is their newest If Not Now When (much slower but still great; In the Company of Wolves as an example)

      1. They really aren’t that different from Matchbox 20 😛 Just pretty bland radio rock. Just my opinion, of course.

        1. you must have not been there when 3 am was first released. It was fresh at the time and Incubus did not exist. I always thought they were making “I wanna hold your hand” type songs (which matchbox is better 10 fold) and it is sad to see that they never really evolved past that the way the beatles did, they just kind of went stale after 2 records.

          1. first incubus album is from 1995, that 3 am song is from 1997..
there’s nothing fresh in matchbox20, even for late 90s..

      2. Maybe I didn’t listen enough but I just didn’t like what I’ve heard. There are bands I just don’t like for example the tea party. Can’t stand them but I can understand that ppl like them. I listen to all kinds of music from different era and different countries. Some of the music I love is shit to someone else’s ears. 😆
