Speculation: AFI to make their Rocksmith 2014 debut next week

Well Rocksmith 2014 fans, it seems like we are going to be staying in that 90s groove next week judging by today’s hint from Paul Cross (@CrossieRS).

Now if you are confused by that hint, allow me educate those of you that aren’t children of the 80s.

This is ALF who was the star of an 80s sitcom from 1986-1990 titled just that… Alf was an alien from the planet Melmac and on that planet Cats are the equivalent of Cattle. I’m really not making this up, you can check here.

In any event Paul’s hint is poking fun at the band AFI and ALF being easily confused on a first glance.

AFI are no stranger to the music game scene, as they have been featured both on disc for Rock Band and Guitar Hero, as well as supplemented by downloadable content.

While we aren’t exactly sure if AFI is destined for a 5 Pack next Tuesday, here our the likely picks to make it.

Isn’t it great when wishes come true?

  1. I would prefer some more Rise Against. I am not really into this EMO stuff.Miss Murder is the only song i know from them, not to bad but there are Songs out there i am interested in… Hopefully next week….

  2. Semi-informed guess…I’m a sucker for hints so I tried to figure out the 1999 song:

    Miss Murder
    Girl’s Not Grey
    Leaving Song Pt II
    Ever and a Day?

  3. It is still unbelievable that people are still whinning about the DLC puts out. There are sooooo many different taste in music.
Ubi is trying to address to appeal to the masses and make as much $$$ as possible.

I’m have not bought a pack since the Boston and Halestorm, but I’m not whinning. I’ll just get the next one’s I like. Ya know, there is still something called reading music, tabs and learning by ear.

RS is just an outlet to have fun. Play the guitarcade games if your that bored, sheesh.

    1. I appreciate different tastes in music, however mediocrity should not be praised. As a consumer I have a right to bitch and moan since my money actually has some value. So I purchased new pickups and a tele. So, perhaps RS in a round about way is helping me become a better guitarist 😆

  4. I hope this isn’t a joke. I’d love to play me some AFI!
    If it’s a 5pk, I’d hope for…

    the Despair Factor
    the Leaving Song pt 2
    Summer Shudder
    Torch Song
    Endlessly, She Said

If it had to be 3…

    Dancing through Sunday
    Cold Hands
    Okay, I Feel Better Now

  5. Am I the only one hoping for a 5 Nirvana Pack ? I mean, come on, soon Kurt will be dead for 20 years now. “Anniversary” bitch.

    1. I’ve been waiting for a Nirvana pack since the game first came out. You’re right, this month marks 20 years since his death. There was also mention of more 90’s bands soon so I wouldn’t be surprised if Nirvana is this month.

      1. Nirvana pack is a no brainer for this game . I would take any old seattle band over these A’s ADTR AFI whats next ABBA

  6. 3 weeks in a row of extremely american pop-rock? Really? Oh well, here’s hoping they change up the genre for next week. I know they can’t please us all all the time, but this month it’s like they aren’t even trying. A different genre each week would be much more likely to please us all, wouldn’t it?

  7. I could be wrong but I don’t think AFI is a given nor has it been confirmed yet for this week. As an American raised in the 80s I’m quite familiar with Alf but I rather doubt that Paul and most British and European folks had any interest…was definitely an American thing. I’ve seen Def Leppard (“fed leopard”) suggested and to me that makes more sense as the answer to Paul’s hint. I guess we’ll know soon.

    1. ooh no!! i’m a french guy from the 80’s, and Afl is definitely a cult tv show, everybody know it here..

  8. Definitely my favorite band to come out for DLC in a long while, but I hope Ubi includes some pre-Sing The Sorrow material. And more horror-punk, too. Whose leg do I have to dry hump for some 45 Grave and Nekromantix?

  9. This has been a really shitty month. Matchbox 20 was alright but damn I can only justify it by thinking we’re getting a whole month of classic rock and 90s grunge coming up

    1. I’m just thankful they are getting all the crap out of the way.
I think I’d rather play Disturbed than this.

  10. This band reminds me of the goth kids on South Park. I couldn’t help but laugh at the lyrics to dancing through the misery. Whiney depressed emo/goth/horror punk whatever you want to call bands like this are almost as bad as modern day country music.

    1. Sorry but … Are you just ignorant … Or stupid? .. It’s a long time ago that i read such a foolish post.

    2. What’s the difference between this band and A day to remember or whatever they were called?

Are people still doing that scenester emo hairdo? I thought everyone had dropped that by now.

  11. Looks like Ubi are on a long streak of very, very weak DLC’s. The last good one (and the last one i’ve bought) was The Doors DLC. Since then, boooring. Can we have good music back again, please ❓ They should add more from artists that had single DLC’s for RS2014 or/and on-disc artists from first Rocksmith.

    1. The Doors DLC wasn’t all that long ago. I could maybe understand if the last decent DLC was a year ago, but a few weeks, no. Try to be happy for the people that likes the DLC that comes out instead, after all, there are other people than just you playing this game.

      1. Yes, I know that some people might like this stuff, but since Ubi launched RS2014 there were some good, or even brilliant DLCs every two-three weeks (the “starters” were mostly brilliant, then Pumpkins, Radiohead, The Who, Muse, Aerosmith, Oasis, R.E.M. and The Doors), but 5 weeks of nothing interesting is a bit worrying. And yes, I skipped Boston, because they’re very average, if not bad. Many other bands playing similar stuff does it a lot better. And the DLCs after Boston…. well, you know my opinion.

    2. Tell you something … The last really shit for me was Doors … Maybe you should take your guitar and play some blues you crybaby … “I feel so down babe, because all I have is the Doors … Rocksmith takes me down … Cry baby cry”

  12. I cringe so much every time someone calls this band or ADTR or anything emo. Bad and whiny does not mean emo. Listen to some Braid, The Promise Ring, Cap’n Jazz, etc. and you will have some idea of what actual emo sounds like.

  13. This pack needs Days of the the Pheonix and anything form Very Proud of Ya. I remember when AFI introdueced the term “goth punk” which quickly evolved in to emo. I’m guessing this pack will include mainly emo crap

    1. Goth punk did not evolve into emo, and AFI has never been emo. I hear ya, though–Very Proud of Ya was the only album of theirs I liked. The lyrics on “Cruise Control” were hilarious.

      1. Alrught random guy called Dave no need to get all anal. Emo: “a cheap imitation of goth”… AFI did call themselves “Goth Punk” when Art of Drowning came out. Whatever rules you follow. Goth emo are related (in image if nothingh else) and should not be related to punk in anyway. There is no denying that loads of these eraly 90’s punk bands on Nitro, Epitaph, Fat Wreck ETC bands paved the way for the crappy emo bands that flooded music in the late 90’s….I concur Very Proud of Ya is cool, but there is not bout AFI sold out their roots to cash in on the emo cow

        1. False. Forget about image. Image is nothing. Goth & punk are (musically speaking) intimately related. Listen to the early albums of proto-goth rockers like the Cure, Siouxsie, Killing Joke, Bauhaus, and even the Damned and it will be obvious how the 70s British Punk scene gave birth to the gothic movement. Emo is a watered-down, commercialized bastardization of pop, punk, and hair metal for guys too effeminate to make it without makeup. Seriously, Marliyn Manson is more manly than any of these dudes.

          1. Know your history idiot, Punk in the UK started as a fahion movemnet by Vivian Westwood and Malcolm McLaren. “Goth & punk are (musically speaking) intimately related”…umm all mucic is part of an Eevolutionary chain so therefore is all related. Punk and Goth are also related by the fact they are ruled by image. The bands you mentioned although played very simply music are not punk at all. Six pack by Black Flag is punk not Boy’s don’t cry by the Cure! My however point is that AFI started punk band in the vein of American styled hardcore, then changed there image and sound to capitalise on a emerging scene.

            1. Man I was totally going to stay out of this and I tried to avoid the, “someone is wrong on the internet” syndrome, but being as you both claim to know a bit about punk rock (and respectfully I’m sure that you actually do), you should know that “Emo” grew out of the mid-80s hardcore scene in Washington DC where/when it was simply known as “Emotive Hardcore”. Back then it wasn’t so much about, “I’ma gonna whine about my parents and cut maself up,” as it was a reaction to the increasingly militant political nature of the scene in DC back then. I’m not particularly a fan of Emo in either the old-school or new-school modes, but if you’re going to argue about something, it would be good to at least know the real history. At any rate if you want to check out the roots of Emo check out a band like Jawbreaker or something. Good day.

  14. Miss murder is a given, I’d hope for leaving song pt II, and dancing through Sunday would be icing on the cake. Prolly gonna get medicate in there tho.

  15. If AFI does make it, I can only hope for The Boy Who Destroyed the World. You might remember it from Tony Hawk

  16. Hmm,looks like Ubisoft doesnt want to make good bussiness at all.Probably next weekend we get a hint for Hanson or Keane dlc instead of Throwing Muses or BRMC.Would hate to see Ubi and their people in trouble due to poor decissions, after all,it still is bussiness. W.

    1. I struggle to understand how people keep deluding themselves into thinking their taste reflects what’s popular or what’s “good business.” No matter much you hate AFI, Matchbox 20, ADTR, etc. and how much you love those bands you mentioned, that doesn’t magically change all the objective measures of popularity you’re willfully ignoring.

      1. See ,Jim? 😀
Legendary bands(like the muses or Lush)are usually great bussiness, and recent great ones often too(like the Afghan Whigs,or even Silversun Pickups)but AFI or ADTR? Popular?Beyonce is popular and I cant think of anything worse than that,oh,and on this particular market some popular “music” doesnt do well,so….lets see what happens. After all ,sales are the real boss here.

    1. Frank Zappa make good business. Never hear of such band as Throwing Mucas or Brec. I hear your talk of decissons and bussiness, but not sure if those words.

  17. This is one of those bands I completely forgot about. I remember the first 2 songs from years ago they arent that bad, but those last 3 suck

  18. I can’t defend garbage.. unless its the band Garbage. lol ❗

Seriously though, there should be more quality than quantity. Since when is being and accepting mediocrity, cool?

    1. the first concert i ever went to was the smashing pumpkins with garbage opening. i suppose they were my first live band. i was 10… almost 20 years later, i still like garbage.

      …but, i don’t think they’re a better band than afi.

and to be honest, i’m not even a big afi fan. but i look forward to learning any of the above songs (since they’ve all appeared in Guitar Hero).

  19. Every week, we have to see the same assholes cry about the DLC because it’s not what they want. I’m part of the Glorious DLC Acceptor Master Race.

        1. Sometimes, you wonder how much you can take it. Sorry I had to resort to hateful comments to the haters. It’s enough is enough.

    1. I agree, it’s really annoying. Sure, you can’t like everything, but I don’t go to forums about things I don’t like and complain, I simply ignore it. Besides, a good guitarist is a versatile one.

  20. Ha … now it’s my turn to admit to liking [X] crappy band. So yeah, I’m totally on board for an AFI DLC pack. With any luck though it won’t include anything released after Sing the Sorrow. If it only included tracks from StS, Black Sails, and All Hallows I might as well plan locking myseld in a room until I 100%+ every single one of those tracks. Ubisoft might as well take my money right now on this one.

  21. AFI is an amazing band, and i’d gladly buy the pack no matter what is in it.. probably gonna be the best pack for me since SOAD (actually the SOAD picks weren’t that great… for good picks i’d have to go further back, but I just like SOAD a lot) I wouldn’t usually post this but people don’t seem that happy, and I for one am super happy we’ve not had to resort to miley cyrus yet

  22. god please tell me i’m seeing things rocksmith is converting into harmonix rockband all these cheap sissy emo bands that can’t go on tour and can’t get on the radio so this is how they make money

and AFI serious aside from them being u know what i’m gonna happily put 12dollars of gas into my car next tuesday wow what total DLC CRAP!

    1. This is real DLC you asshole. Let me guess, you think music died in the 90s. Now shut the fuck up you old man.

      1. We really need to get you some help for your anger problems. Maybe there’s an angermanagementsmith out there somewhere….

  23. I hope we go back to on disc artists next week. Stll missing some must haves off there. This band isnt really my style so ill pass but i respect the band and people who like it.

      1. People should have supported bandfuse that was our chance at hard rock and metal. Now rocksmith will bring you lots of variety

    1. I’m hoping we have at least a few more weeks before going back and/or that there’s switching between on disc and new more often. There was way too little deviation from on disc artists between the week after launch and Boston.

    1. that’s because he’s half female don’t belive me ask a emo kid in their late 20s if they still exist (cryptic code for half female)
