Howdy, all you Rocksmith folk!
I hope y’all ready’in yer ten-gallon hats and practicin’ yer country lingos n’ accents, it’s time for some good ol’ classic country on Rocksmith!
My own terrible accent imitation aside, I can tell a good many people will be excited by this news. Let’s have a look at Dan’s clue from Friday:
Which decodes to…
This also sets a new record for music games: This is officially the oldest song to ever be included on a music/rhythm video game and the first song recorded in the 1940s to do so as well.
So what else could we be seeing this Tuesday? I’ve got a couple ideas, myself:
What country music pack would be complete without the Man in Black himself? Folsom Prison Blues would give us a chance to learn Cash’s signature “Boom Chicka Boom” strumming technique as well.
How about the first lady of country music to round out the pack? This song also has a nice, smooth reverb-heavy tone for any tone-hunters who use session mode a lot.
So what do you think, Rocksmith fans? Does this pack make you hollerin’ and hootin’ fer more country, or is this one country road you’re steering clear from? Let us know in the comments!
Once again, my dearest apologies for my inexperience with the southern accent.
Brooks and Dunn’s My Maria would be great. I LOVE the sound of that one song. Mr. Blue remake by Garth Brooks is nice too. Not a big country fan but there are some incredible sounds there.
Amen. My maria my favorite country song. I’m also hoping we get dueling banjos, ramblin man & So Paso.
Don’t really like country, but I will be picking this up. Not only is it nice to know a couple of songs in case of a campfire request, but it also pays to look outside of your favorite genre for inspiration. Zakk Wylde lists Albert Lee as someone who’s inspired him. If you don’t know who he is, you should!
I would love some Johnny Cash, and I have to buy some of the pack to get the oldest song. ; )
Kenny Rogers: Coward of the County. Might be a bit boring on guitar but is a great country song. Oh and Hotel California ( I consider it country) would be awesome. Don’t get yer hopes up though.
Well, the eagles’ wikipedia page classifies them as “Country rock”. But the eagles are almost impossible to license.
If they were to go more modern I think Camouflage by Brad Paisley would be fun.
Wow, some country. Glad to see it, even though I’m not a big fan. I’ve heard more of Jr’s stuff too as opposed to Sr. Will have to see what comes out.
On another note for all the haters, Ubisoft maybe now is the time to offend all the complainers out there and release some reggae or gospel DLC.
…or progressive.I just requested a bunch of “Yes” in memory of Chris Squire.
Amen…Yes would be sick as a dlc pack
Just thought about something. Is there any Jazz on Rocksmith? George Benson comes to mind.
Glad to see someone’s in the prog with me. 😀
Yes, (moar) Rush, King Crimson, Genesis, ELP, Dream Theater, Etc.
Or we could just get a prog rock singles pack…
I’m not a country fan, and will not be partaking of this pack, but I can appreciate the fact that a lot of people have been asking for this, so I’m glad that they’re happy. It shows that UbisoftSF does listen to what people want and tries their best to give it to them.
I can also appreciate the different techniques that can be taught by this genre of music. A lot of country licks can be pretty difficult.
Meow…… Zzzzzzz
So you liked Tommy the Cat after all…
If Johnny’s in, I’m in.
We want some Boxcar Willie!
HANK SR! Johnny CA$H! We finally get some country, and (potentially) 2 of the all time greats….Pinch me I must be dreaming! Thank you RS!!!! <3 <3
Love Story
HA.. Are you a ubisoft clone???… Every week you love the picks???… You are either the most open minded guy on the planet “which I doubt”… Or just a huge suck up????… I bet it’s the latter
I’m always entertained by your comments; no one overstates their opinion and avoids using proper grammer quite like you do. At the same time, however, you’re constant whining does get pretty irritating.
Where have I said that I love the picks? I’m only pointing out that there is no pleasing you…
This week may or may not be worth a buy for me, depends a lot on the other two songs.
I was only interested in one or two songs in the Players’ Picks, but you were freaking out about how nobody with a brain would pick those…it’s just annoying.
And I’m not a fan of QotSA, but I’m happy for everyone who enjoys their music. I know that was a big deal for many fans. So even though I don’t like them, I don’t feel the need to be a whiney bitch about how every week isn’t the perfect pack for me. Grow up, man!
I get a weird feeling that if/when we get a Pink Floyd/Tool/Zeppelin/Metallica pack, you’ll still say stuff like “OH MAN DIS IS DA WORST DLC EVAAAARR” and “UBISOFT IS RUININ RACKSMITH” and “ROCKSMITH IS GOIN DAUNHILL”.
Seriously dude, shut up.

No matter how good or bad my week has been, can always count on PJ-10 to bring it down! So we all know Ubi can’t please everyone…but nobody can please that asshat. Wah!
I’d love to see Rawhide from The Blues Brothers soundtrack, but I also think that it deserves it’s own pack.
I’d Buy That Pack!
I remember I left a comment on the Rockabilly pack announcement post asking for some real country, not the modern poppy country….didn’t think they’d act on it so quickly, but I’m happy!
As long as there’s no songs about trucks then I’m ok with this pack. I have a feeling this is going to be a skip for me though. With a few exceptions, this just isn’t my kind of music. A bluegrass song pack would be a whole different story, but I just don’t love this type of country music. It’s better than a modern country pack I suppose.
Still pumping out the unexpected. I have enjoyed every song pack and bonus song. Keep cranking them out and I’ll keep on picking and grinning
not for me, I can’t stand country, but it’s about time. Hopefully we will get a 50’s rock and roll pack, Jazz pack and reggae pack soon…
Based on my comment on the Rockabilly pack announcement post, I’d say we’re getting some punk and more hair metal soon!
I love the variety old and new. I hope ubisoft keeps bringing us these nice surprises
i thought we left this 60’s crapfest behind us last week there hasn’t been a good dlc since slayer! 🙁
For me slayer was the worst dlc weve had in a while. I like metal but slayer is just awful to listen to. I’ve seen them live at Heavy Mtl twice and that did not change my opinion. You can like them but don’t call the rest of the dlc a “crapfest” because you’re narrow minded.
actually Casey, slayer kicks ass but i respect your opinion im just tired of being disappointed by the weekly hillbilly music
Daniel have a beer… And chill out…. Instead of ubisoft churning out songs that aren’t good every week because they obviously can’t license it…. Save the money and put out a blockbuster
Johnny cash pack would be okay…. But no wonder June went by so quickly… Ubisoft sucked the life out of it with a majority of this dlc…. Here’s hoping July is a lot better…it can’t possibly be worse. 🙁
It’s been a little rough for sure
That’s an awfully strong, opinionated statement to make about a company that routinely tries its hardest to please its fans using what they are allowed to use within licensing restrictions.
Think about it; this month alone has given us a top-40 most requested band, a mixed pack of music that laid the foundation for Rock and Roll as we know it, a cult hit funk-noise-alternative-metal-whatever band, and a mixed singles pack all about giving the fans what they wanted. If none of this was your cup of tea, that’s understandable, but to say that Ubisoft SF “sucked the life out of the month” would be disingenuous at the very least.
You sir, are a prick
Just think:
1st: We got Queens Of The Stone Age, an artist in the top 40 who everyone should agree is pretty damn awesome.
2nd: We got Rockabilly, Featuring the famous Blue suede shoes (not the elvis version) also queen, Brian setzer and Gene Vincent.
3rd: We Got Player’s picks, featuring highly requested songs by multiple artists. And the famous “Frankenstein”
4th: Primus, Les claypool , need i say more?
and now we’re getting country (not my cup of coffee, but i can respect) and some douchebag thinks this is the worst month for DLC yet. Just no. (and it could be worse)
Well, depends on who you are.
1) QOTSA to me are very overrated. I can respect their talent but to be in the top 40 blows my mind.
2) the Queen track was really the best in this pack, the rest were fair.
3)the fact they called this a players pick was a joke. There was one good song in that pack and it wasn’t Frankenstien.
4) primus is great from a bass players view, but I can’t get past his vocals, just terrible.
To me, this past month says Ubi is either running on to trouble or they are holding the good stuff for a new rocksmith release
4) What do his vocals have to do with Rocksmith, the game that teaches you to play guitar and bass? I would think that the vocals would be irrelevant.
Seriously? Having to listen to him sing over and over while trying to learn a song doesn’t make it worth it to me
Or…just buy the tracks that interest you, and don’t be threatened by the ones that do not.
THERE IS MUSIC THAT IS STRANGE AND FRIGHTENING TO ME
Not threatened.. More like disappointed Dan. You guys have really been releasing some pretty terrible DLC lately.
I’m disappointed that you think your opinion counts for shit
Yea top kel, I’m disappointed that your mom doesn’t give better head.. But I still keep coming back, kinda like this sub par game
Good to know you spend your time on a fanblog for a game you don’t even like 🙂
Seriously Dan, it has been pretty bad. Are the other rock games that are coming out making it hard to license? Or are you guys just giving up?
Obviously taste is subjective. There has been a pretty big variety of music this year. We’ve had some Top 40 bands like Slayer and Queens of the Stone Age, as well as many new genres entering the game. I think the dlc this year has gotten a lot better. The low point for me was when Creed and Shinedown were released last year. I felt like they were stretched thin and thought they were at the end of their licensing rope. But again, taste is subjective. I learned that even though I didn’t like the dlc being released, it didn’t mean they were done licensing good music. They’ve continued to surprise me with the quality and breadth of music throughout this year.
Dear Mike,
Maybe you just have shit taste, have you considered that option m8?
id love to see the download numbers for the packs released this year.
I’m hoping for a Johnny Cash 5 pack instead of just a one off single. Interesting pack though. I’m not a fan of modern country but the old school stuff is great.
Rampantcoyote couldn’t agree more, sort feature is frustrating could easily be fixed by adding simple user playlists instead of having to use the continuous play feature…
Roy Orbison could be cool….
And now ladies and gentlemen….Mr. Conway Twitty…
It’s pretty far from Al Dimeola but I appreciate the effort to broaden the spectrum.
Now I feel confident we will get a jazz pack. I’m loving the variety got tired of metal
I love when they add old songs! It’s something I hope they do more in the future since they don’t need master tracks.
Cool are we getting a step closer to an Elvis mega pack like Hendrix? Not like the king wrote his own songs, can’t be that difficult or expensive to license his work…
Cash doing Danzig’s Thirteen or NIN’s Hurt would be awesome does it have to be country-western? I’d buy this if it had ppl like Dwight Yoakum and Hank Jr.
Not my bag, I was hoping for something new new this week. Hopefully next week we can leave he 60’s and under
Primus formed in 1984, so, yeah…
Primus isn’t worth considering though.. Amazing bass is all they are good for, but unfortunately you have to hear his voice
More Variety. Very cool. Wonder if there will be any jazz guitar packs at some point.
And as a side note – whether or not it’s gonna be my bag, I want to give the RS team at attaboy for being willing to experiment with a variety of styles. With the Blues pack, rockabilly pack, and now classic country pack… they really are trying some different things. So… cool.
My only big issue at this point is my DLC library is so large it’d be nice to have better ways of categorizing things than just the “favorites” list.
I have mixed emotions on this one. I love old country but I would rather buy a separate game, (Countrysmith) with its own dlc, than to have country dlc on Rocksmith.
Really depends on this one. Not a country fan, but there’s some country / rock hybrid stuff … like Rockabilly, The Eagles, etc… that I really love. Johnny Cash might be cool, too. So… I’m on the fence on this one. Might do it just for variety, but whether it’ll be individual songs or the whole pack remains to be seen.
