Yup, keeping with the Guitar Hero theme, it’s Accept’s Balls To The Wall!

Rounding off the pack is a song you should remember from Guitar Hero Warriors of Rock (it was one of the first announced songs) Tesla’s Modern Day Cowboy, and the awesome classic rock anthem from Guitar Hero On Tour: Decades (and of course Rock Band) All Right Now by Free!

  1. Ssssssooooooo still no Zappa?!? I'm kinding….kinda. Rocksmith really is a god-send though…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..zappa?

  2. Music is a very personal thing so it is not surprising to have a wide range of varying opinions. You can’t please everyone. All Right Now was on my list of recommended songs and have already picked it up. I did recommend some Edgar Winter songs but from the White Trash albums. I was still happy to see Frankenstein and will pick that up too. Often there are many weeks that can go by before I see a DLC that interests me. I have no interest in head-bashing heavy metal but I do not begrudge those that do. I am interested in a wide range of music from folk to rock to blues. What I like about Rocksmith is that they offer a songs that should appeal to a wide range of musical interests but not to all people every week. Rocksmith is truly an awesome product with nothing else out there that compares to it so continue to Rock On Rocksmith! A few of my dream DLC’s would be The Rolling Stones 40 Licks, to me that would be an awesome package (Satisfaction is already in Rocksmith), or a CCR 12 song pack.

  3. I still don’t have Frankenstein and Modern Day Cowboy on PSN. What’s up with that? Ubisoft desperately needs to organize their shop!

  4. Joe Persinger I should probably also mention that of those 48-60 songs, there were maybe – at best – 33% of them that you actually cared to learn. I play EVERY song that I download, on guitar and bass. I would have killed for something like this back around 1982-85.

  5. To those unsure of how these songs were “above average” on votes:

If you assume “average” is all rock (and, well, non-rock) songs, with a lot of songs only getting 1 or 2 votes, getting “above average” probably isn’t a high bar. Just means being in the top 50%. (I wouldn’t be surprised if all of these were in the top 25%).

#1 – All Right Now and Frankenstein are both classic rock hits, quite easily in the top 100 of (remaining) requested songs (out of thousands).

#2 – Balls to the Wall was in an early Guitar Hero game. So even those who don’t remember it being a fairly brief hit circa 1983 (I do, actually) remember it from that that game. I imagine all of the base songs from Rock Band and Guitar Hero are “above average” in votes.

#3 – Tesla – Modern Day Cowboy was actually a pretty decent hit from the 80s, still frequently played on rock radio today.

  6. Rhett Stroh Ha ha, yeah, I was probably a bit harsh on the Millenial generation. I look at someone like 11 year old Audrey from the YouTube channel audrey123talks – she gets so excited each week for DLC and comments regularly about how much fun the songs are to play, and this girl is commenting on rockabilly songs, blues songs, ballads, and especially metal – she clearly has a love of all things Slayer, as well as many of the other heavier bands available so far.

  7. I’m with ya footballfan .. But slayer revelant ??? their coming to town next week and can’t sellout a 8 to 10 thousand freaking little venue..so revelant may be a strong word to use

  8. I don't think you can limit it to just the millenials, but I agree with the rest of your assessment. I don't know what ever happened to checking the songs, deciding you don't like them, and just moving on. When did everyone become so damn important that they *NEED* to tell me how much they disapprove of completely optional content?

  9. jesus christ can we get back to the 21st century????? there hasn’t been a relevant pack since slayer SMH

  10. You know what kills me about the constant whining regarding DLC – the fact that people have just become so used to complaining about what they don’t have rather than being grateful for what they do have. In the 80’s, when I first started playing guitar, we had a magazine called Guitar For The Practicing Musician. Each issue contained 4-5 tabbed songs chosen entirely by the magazine staff, and it came out 12 times a year. So we had the opportunity to learn 48-60 songs a year. The songs were varied, from the 60’s to present day, and crossed a variety of artists. We were grateful for what we got and I rarely recall complaints on the letters page. There certainly weren’t letters every month demanding more Metallica. Now we have an interactive piece of software that provides new content EVERY WEEK. With an average of 4 songs weekly, that’s about 208 songs a year!!! And still people complain. It’s a self-centered, narcissistic habit and it probably comes mostly from the “everyone gets a trophy” millennials who don’t seem to understand that the world doesn’t give two shits about them or their desires.

  11. The thing is – if you like the other songs in the pack, then with the pricing, the last song is basically free. A lot of times if I'm just playing for a few minutes I'll steer clear of those "True tuning" songs, but every once in a while, I'll take 30 seconds or so to retune the guitar. If you're fighting a dicey tremolo bridge, it might make sense to pick up a tremol-no or something similar to make tuning less of an issue. My cheap guitar with a tremolo bridge used to have to be tuned about 4 times through before it'd be in tune. My more expensive guitar does just fine with one tune unless I'm going from E standard to Eb standard or something just as dramatic, then it takes going through the strings twice.

  12. Adam Crawford I'd play it. I don't consider them an amazing guitar band by any means, but I like playing music that I like to hear. Also, there's a Nickelback pack, so I don't know if we can use perceived artistic merit as a disqualifier.

  13. You know, this kind of reminds me of the artists you hear on Classic Rock radio who seem to have had only one or two big hits. For Example:

    Fog Hat
    Golden Earing
The Outfield (<–hey I requested them too.)

Not old enough to know, so correct me if I'm wrong.

  14. If these are the mist request songs by the players of rocksmith, who plays this game???…. They r bands in the game that only have 1 or 2 songs that are way more modern than the 50’s 60’s and some of the worst songs in the 70’s….. Not hating just sayin.:(

  15. It would be cool it RS 2014 could automatically transpose and use different frequencies for A. Transposing might be tough, but being able to shift the eniter song a few frequencies shouldn't be so tough.

  16. Happy with all the songs. Good pack. Some of us don’t get some of the band’s and songs that get requested and released, but there are a lot of people who all have different tastes. It is impossible to keep everyone happy. As for those complaining about “jurassic” rockers, you wouldn’t have the stuff you listen to without these older songs. Many of the ones you are whining about were ground breaking in their time, and greatly expanded the making of music in general. You are whining about a model t while you cruise your prius. You just wouldn’t have the one if the other never happened

    1. Maybe so, but how many Model T’s do you see driving around? Its one thing to appreciate and respect the past, its quite another to remain stuck there…

        1. And that leads to a pack they should offer. “Grandfathers and Sons” do a series of DLC to show artists and their influences.

For example, songs by the following:
          Albert King
Jimi Hendrix (something not already in the DLC we have)
          Stevie Ray Vaughan
all leading up to John Mayer.

          Another one
          Howlin’ Wolf
          Lightning Hopkins
          Jimi Hendrix
          James Brown
Eddie Hazel (Parliament/Funkadelic for those who don’t know)
          Red Hot Chili Peppers

Not “stuck” in the past. Just traveling through history.

      1. Agreed. But the people who drive Model T’s are the people with money to actually buy DLC, not just complain about it, and they have the technical wherewithal to figure out how to use the request tool.

    1. If you haven’t downloaded Rocksmith 1 yet, do it. It has a good catalog of songs and was intended to be more of a beginners guitar game. Most of the songs on it a nice and easy. Great if you’re struggling with advanced techniques.

  17. Im on the who requested these end. Maybe someone has been jumping on every computer they find to request their odd choice of songs!

  18. Firstly the if you messed with the pitches the vocals would be affected unless you dealt with the master tapes which they don't have , secondly how about you learn the song then you can play it in any way you want.

  19. I might get the Free song, I do like it. I’m not into the others enough to bother with really. Maybe the ‘Accept’ song, that’s quite good.

  20. If some of these are the most highly requested singles for this game, the takeaway is that very, very few people must be availing themselves of the Request a Song button. In for Frankenstein and maybe All Right Now, but the others? Yikes.

    1. The most highly requested songs are probably Metallica and all those other unlicenceable bands. These probably aren’t even near being the “most” requested singles, they’re just the ones that wouldn’t fit into any other packs.

    2. That was clarified already that it was “four of the more requested songs” – meaning songs with a higher-than-average number of requests. So basically, four from the top half (quarter?) of the the request list which managed to get through the licensing process.

      1. I remain astonished that a couple of these particular songs received “higher than average” request numbers. Not saying it didn’t happen, just that it’s completely shocking.

  21. I don't really understand why some of these tracks can't just have their pitches bent up or down so we don't have to have exotic tunings all the time. It's come to the point when I do non stop play I do all the E Standard songs only on a loop.

  22. Can we get something modern. More green day. Mcr. Some pop punk or emo pack. All American rejects. Maybe even bvb. Something for the modern players.

  23. All Right Now is a classic and a must have in my book. Skipping the rest.

This year so far has been pretty mellow (QotSA, Three Days Grace – sue me – and a few of the Alt Rock songs are the ones I enjoyed the most) and I would not mind something a little more recent myself either. And while it is great to have variety, a non-thematic pack is kind of disheartening to see, and makes me less optimistic about the future of the DLC.

  24. Two easy buys for me, Frankenstein and All Right Now. Can understand why the others would be highly requested, but not by me. Would love to have some Bad Company now.

  25. Solution: Grab Howlin' Wolf "Spoonful" so you have another song to play after or before

Assuming it's because you hate tuning and not because you have a floating bridge/tremolo

  26. Meh. Shame, only heard of Free and hate that song with a passion. Lets hope for Silversun Pickups next time.

  27. I requested All Right Now ….. And I’m so happy I’m finally getting it!!!!!!

Looks like a good week to me, can’t wait to see the charts.

  28. Hmm…didnt see these ones coming, i’ll get Frankenstein and all right now. And for those who think it has been just jurassic rockers lately, just look at the last 2 or 3 months of dlc as a whole.. lots of newer stuff has come out. I prefer the older stuff myself but think there has been a good mix of old and recent music.

  29. A better clue for this week would have been “Dad Rock.”

Very excited for Frankenstein. Learned the main riffs so many years ago. It’ll be nice to finally fill in the gaps of the song from the solos and crazy interludes. That means I still have about 50% of the song to learn.

            1. Great Grandad? Maybe in the South where the average age of pregnancy is 17 and 4 generations in 60 years is not as uncommon as it should be…

  30. I had no idea that people were this into Tesla. If that’s so, there’s hope for more Cinderella and other 80’s bands. Anyway, this all looks like popular stuff. Everyone generally likes “Balls to the Wall” “Frankenstein” and “Alright now’. Or at least, they are popular on radio and tab sites.

    1. So:
Frankenstein < With Arms Wide Open
Balls to the Wall < In the End
      Modern Day Cowboy < Glycerine
All Right Now < Last Resort

It's fine if you don't like it, just don't be a crybaby about it.

      1. I actually kinda liked Glycerine and Last Resort. I agree they’re not better than Modern Day Cowboy and All Right Now though.

      2. All Right Now is a solid song, but the rest is pretty terrible. I’d take any song from Tremonit any day, regardless if it’s Creed or not

  31. Well, I also would never request any of this. Frankenstein is an awesome surprise though! That Accept song has a very AC/DC vibe and so I feel it doesn’t fit this “FREE” pack as well as the others.

  32. This actually looks pretty good! I didn’t know that people requested Tesla. But it looks pretty good! Hope they charted the synth…

  33. Well this confirms it. Ubisoft is having a hard time getting those licenses. Could throw out a Darth Vader quote here…..”Search your……” nah it’ll keep.

I didn’t find out about Riff Repeater and getting a sneak peak at upcoming DLC until October last year and those last three months were stellar. Did the beginning of 2014 start off the same way as 2015?

Aside from the Blues Pack, this year’s DLC kind of reminds me of the drought we’re having in California. (please don’t take that as a dis to the music, the artists, or even the RS team. I know it’s hard work.) Just feeling like Howlin’ Wolf right now. “Goin’ Down Slow”.

    1. Sorry got to clarify something. There has been some good music released this year. It’s just been more of what wouldn’t mind listening to as opposed to what I’m willing to pay for and learn to play.

        1. Oh wow, the list is too long.
          B.B. King
Bob Marley & The Wailers (of course)
          Brad Paisley
          Gary Clark Jr
          John Mayer
          Stone Temple Pilots
          Sister Rosetta Tharpe
          Los Lonely Boys
          Run DMC
          Green Day
          Chuck Berry
          more Pearl Jam
          The Beastie Boys
          more Santana
          Cream
          Jimmie Vaughan
          Howlin’ Wolf
          Steve Miller Band
          The Dixie Chicks
          Doyle Bramhall II
          Robert Randolph
          Buddy Guy
Fleetwood Mac (songs with Green and some songs with Buckingham)
and so much more. This doesn’t include requests made for Top40 artists

And the way things are going, I’m considering making a request for something by Brudda Iz. (curious if they can to a guitar version of what he does on u’kelele)

  34. Well I must say that this is a good DLC, but must confess that I would never had requested these songs. I have a lot of songs in mind but not these. But it´s OK for me… 😀

  35. Wow, 2015 is shaping up to be a great year… for saving my money! It’d sure be a nice surprise to see a song that was released sometime in the last 20 years for a change. The Jurassic rockers are having a banner year when it comes to Rocksmith DLC, that’s for sure.

        1. wow, saying ” I guess you’re not a fan” is considered being a fanboy nowadays? Trying to convince someone much?

          1. Aapie, I called him a fanboy because anytime someone says anything negative about rocksmith he jumps in with a snarky comment. I get it, he’s their white knight..

      1. I like QotSA well enough, but of all the DLC released in 2015, only three of those songs are five years old or newer. I turn on the radio to something like Sirius Alt Nation or 107.7 here in Seattle and I hear the songs I enjoy and wanna learn how to play, songs that are nowhere to be found on Rocksmith. I appreciate the classics and the rock legends but good lord, give us something new!!!

          1. That’s your opinion, and you’re welcome to it. Fortunately for you, pretty much every song on Rocksmith would never be heard on that station. So you, unlike me, have hundreds of DLC options that fit your particular musical taste. Not everybody likes the same things, what’s music to me might be noise to you and vice-versa, all I’m asking is for them to throw me a bone here. If you don’t like it, don’t download it… just as I haven’t downloaded 95% of the DLC that’s come out in the last 8-10 months.

            1. I agree. I really would like some current stuff too. I felt like RS1 really tried to do that. But, I haven’t seen anything but essentially classic rock, classic alternative rock, or Deathklock alll year.

Come to think of it, the most recent ‘new” releases all come with RSI and 2014. That can’t be right. But the only exception, I can think of is “Hey hO” from the Luminaers. (sp)

          1. C’mon, man, three bands? You aren’t honestly suggesting that the genre is fairly represented in the DLC offerings because there’s three bands amongst the hundreds are you?

            1. Bro. Muse is tied for the third most songs in the game, with Rage Against the Machine, if I’m not mistaken, with seven songs! It’s only beaten by Foo Fighters with eleven songs and Jimi Hendrix Experience with twelve. I think alt rock has gotten some decent representation in game. Also, it’s difficult to license recent songs. You have to cut the devs some slack. It’s been an excellent year for DLC. Many of the top requested artists have gotten full packs in the game! It’s not about you being represented, it’s about the community being represented.

              1. Muse may be a current/popular band, but their sound is more reminiscent of 70’s arena rockers like Queen than their contemporaries. But even if for the sake of argument I give you that one, you’re talking about one band. Current and popular alt rock has most certainly not been given decent representation. Look at the list of all the DLC in 2015 alone. By and large it is not anything that’s been released in the last 10 – 15 years at the newest. Having that one Paramore or one Foster The People song does not equal fair representation. We can go back and forth on what constitutes good music all day long, those are opinions. But look at the original release dates of the majority of the DLC songs, those are facts.

                  1. Again, you can cherry pick out the 8 or 9 Alt rock tracks and say “See? See?” but the fact remains that the vast majority of the DLC is not by currently relevant Alt rock artists, and/or were released before the internet or music CDs existed.

        1. I can definitely see where you’re coming from. Metal is my favorite music genre and until about a year ago, it had poor representation in the game. It’s really frustrating to continuously wait for the music you want and get disappointed each week. I think the problem with Alt Rock packs is that the type of people that tend to listen to that type of music take a lot of pride in having distinct taste and loving bands no one’s ever heard of. Those are probably the types of bands they are requesting. Because there’s so many of those bands out there, and none of them has a particularly huge fan base, it basically prevents all of them from receiving enough votes to be considered. For another matter, I don’t think a lot of Rocksmith’s audience with deeper pockets listen to much music created after 2010 (myself included, lol). Honestly though, it is surprising to me that more well-known alternative bands like Death Cab for Cutie still aren’t in the game. Just keep requesting I guess.

          1. Coming from a different view–It is annoying to wait week after week for that one Home Run. And for many of us, we’ll never be satisfied. There is just too much music out there and so many issues involved with getting at it that many of us won’t be represented. For example, I’ve been waiting for some Roots Reggae. Talking Morgan Heritage, Black Uhuru, and of course Bob Marley. I’m sure most of you have no idea who the first two bands are but we all know Marley. For popularity reasons, the first two most likely will never get DLC. Marley is unlikely as well since his music (in a similar vein as Hendrix) is hard to get at. Not to say it won’t happen, but it’s highly unlikely. Yet I still hold out hope.

There are a lot of us to please out here, and for each release, many will be disappointed. I actually like 2 of this weeks songs. Just disappointed they aren’t something I’d like to play. Got to respect the fact that there are many who enjoy what’s come out so far. I bet if Ubisoft released some GOSPEL DLC, 90% of folks here would pitch a fit like a 2 year old. For me I’d love it. Would love to see more blues. Would love to see some flamenco or acoustic classical. Not a big country fan, but it is about time for that to show up as well. (if it’s a song I like, I’d buy it and learn it)

I’m thinking this all goes in waves. As Secret Squirrel mentioned, Metal was poorly represented until last year. Look at it now. Maybe other genres are coming. And think about this. Quite a few Top 40 artists have come off the list over the last 9 – 10 months. That is an amazing feat.

I’m not happy with this week’s DLC, but someone out there is. That’s the nature of the Game. (<–….uh huh, guess I'll get comments about that.) 🙂

            1. Well said, and I could not agree with you more. Whether its due to licensing issues, or whatever the case may be, week after week a lot of us look forward to something we recognize and can connect with but come away disappointed. That said, I get that they can’t please everybody, but it just seems to me like they’re really only trying to please one certain demographic. People say to me “Well they have Foo Fighters and Muse, there’s your Alt rock!” but seriously, the Foos are more hard rock than the kind of Alt I’m talking about. I don’t consider them or Muse a suitable alternative (ha!) to bands like AwolNation, Imagine Dragons, Cage The Elephant, Tokyo Police Club, etc.

              1. Oh believe me I understand. While I love reggae, my biggest focus is actually blues. I was scratching my head on why they included that particular version of JLH’s Boom Boom in last month’s blues pack. That is not the best, nor most commonly heard version. Howlin’ Wolf is one of my favs, but Spoonful wasn’t really the best choice from his catalog. Yes Johnny Winter is a worthwhile artist, however; I’d have been happier with Buddy Guy, Jimmie Vaughan, or Wolf’s rival Muddy Waters. There is a purpose in my naming those 3 artists that I’m sure flew over everyone’s head. (relates to other DLC)

And for blues artists (not blues rock) most of those guys and their estates didn’t/don’t get paid much. Hard for me to believe that it is difficult to acquire approval to use their music in a teaching game. Blues has limited representation on RS. Maybe the effort isn’t there, or maybe the developers have too much else to get to.

This is the dilema for those of us with more than just a passing fancy in a specific genre.
