Hello Rocksmith fans!
Our hint this weeks comes to us in the form of this puzzle:
Did you figure it out yet? It didn’t take long for the forums to fill in the squares, but that led to a jumbled up mess of letters that required some deciphering.
After twelve pages, we finally had our first stab in the correct direction.
They were right. It’s Primus.
We don’t know what songs are coming, or how many, but here’s what we think the pack may shape up like!
Jerry Was a Race Car Driver
Could this week finally be the week more-than-4 string bass is patched in? If not, I’d love to see how this song gets charted. Those of you who played the original Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater may remember this song from its awesome soundtrack!
Confirmed!
This week’s #Rocksmith2014 DLC never did win no checkered flags, but it never did come in last. pic.twitter.com/KL3dZinJzp

John the Fisherman
The only other Primus song to feature in a video (EDIT: rhythm) game, John the Fisherman was, if I recall correctly, the first ever master track to appear on the main setlist of a Guitar Hero when it showed up in Guitar Hero II! It’s one of their biggest hits and there’s almost no way that it doesn’t show up here.
My Name is Mud
This song definitely calls for some super advanced bass techniques that we haven’t seen before in the game. Plus, just think of the AMAZING tone we’ll get!
Tommy the Cat
Yet another incredible bass song (sensing a theme yet?) Plus, there are those who may see Tommy as a strange animal…
Too Many Puppies
The first song ever composed by Les Claypool, and a Primus fan favourite, this song is definitely on the more simple end of their catalogue and might provide a nice introduction to their music for less advanced players!
Of course, this pack coming out so soon after we find out Ubisoft San Fancisco is working on the new South Park game could be a bit more than a coincidence!
Are you excited to put your bass skills to the test, or are you holding out for something a bit more… conventional? Let us know in the comments!
Is it a 3 or 5 pack?
Have they said how they are mapping a 6 string fretless to 4 strings? Just by using tones?
4 Pack
Primus can be played on 4 strings
a 4 pack? not bad!!!
Aw The_Tuck beat me to it.

confirmed!
That dog will hunt.
I’m wondering how many people here are misinterpreting the ‘Primus sucks’ comments, hahaha! For those that don’t know, it’s how they introduce themselves on stage – “Hey hey, we’re primus and we suck!”. So it’s common for true fans to say they suck. I have to admit it can be very confusing. I wonder how many people saying they suck genuinely think they suck? Still hoping Tommy the Cat is one of the unusual animals. The two animals could also be Wynona’s beaver and maybe the southbound pachyderm… seriously excited for tomorrow…!
Nice dude they’re one of my favorite bands ever
I would love to see either Lacquer Head or DMV; both are played with four-string basses.
I’m calling:
Wynona’s Big Brown Beaver
Shake Hands With Beef
John the Fisherman
Tommy the Cat
Jerry Was a Race Car Driver
Man, i haven’t seen this amount of negativity since Creed. That’s saying something for a band that was influenced by (THE) Geddy Lee and taught by Joe Satriani.
YES! F***in YEAHarrrggghh! I have waited for this day since rocksmith was released and in the same week as I see Primus play Brixton academy playing Primus and the chocolate factory start to finish, plus some hits in a 2 set all night show and now THIS?! Best week ever for this hardcore Primus fan! They will all be 4 string songs though so Puppies, john and the 4 string live new (old really) version of tommy! This week will rule! Thank you rocksmith!!! And Elliot! I’m weeping tears of joy!
I am mostly pleased that the release of dlc promotes such controversy. I have been displeased so many times by the choices, but I bought some of it just to make sure I hated it. I think Primus bucks every trend and does what rock and roll does, it defies trends. It was sort of heavy sort of rhythmic with a great hillbilly funk. It is great and Les Claypool is a genius who fills a musical niche that he practically invented.
Shake hands with beef would be my top pick.
Primus sucks
If they include “Harold of The Rocks” it will be the best thing
I like their sound, but I want to see how the guitar is charted before I decide if this is something I want to buy now.
I’m very anxious to see what they’ll add to this pack.
My top 5 picks:
Tommy the Cat
My Name Is Mud
American Life
Mr. Know It All
Pudding Time
Bonus picks:
Hamburger Train (with Paul Reubens sample at the beginning)
Here Come The Bastards
Bob
DMV
Eleven
Mr. Krinkle was always a favourite Primus song for me. I’m guessing though a little difficult to transpose/track the Double Bass played with a bow… :pig::+1:
Here’s hoping this opens the way for some Buckethead slap guitar :chicken:
This is fucking awesome!
Holding out for the Partridge Family pack!!!
Fingers crossed for pudding time! So effing sweet!!! My fav band out of highschool!!
I’m really excited for this and not only for bass but guitar parts are really interesting. I bet the same people complaining about primus requested balls to the wall which might be the worst song I have ever heard
Though Les is pretty sweet at bass, all of their songs are just as terrible as Balls to the Wall. The vocals for primus is atrocious
Primus sucks.
This is a hard pass for me. Just not my style. Enjoy guys.
Yeah I’m with you. I respect the band and their style in every way, just not for me in this game. I’ll still watch the Ellison play em though for sure
Here is to another week with a mediocre band that has pretty much never had any real relevance. But I’m sure they were super easy to license though.
Primus is to bassists as Steve Vai and Joe Satriani are to guitarists. Not your cup of tea? Fine, but this game is for bassists as well and they finally get some of those ridiculously difficult songs that teach them something new
No, he is not. I’m sure Claypool and Vai and Satriani are very skilled but their music is not something I tend to enjoy or want to play. Music being difficult to perform has nothing to do with how enjoyable it is.
Here’s to you having a musical palette equivalent to an 15 year old 🙂
I would much rather have Wynona’s Big Brown Beaver than a couple of those. My Name is mud for instance is very repetitive and sparse on the guitar parts. Not the best choice for Rocksmith.
I’m hoping for Groundhog’s Day & DMV.
Primus!! Its bass time
This was my favorite childhood band. On a personal level, I always thought their “hits” were some of their worst songs. This is what I’d really love to see in the pack (but I won’t hold my breath). In no particular order:
1. Over the Electric Grapevine
2. Professor Nutbutter’s House of Treats
3. Mrs. Blaileen
4. Antipop
5.Natural Joe
6. Poetry and Prose (minus the Beavis & Butthead soundbite)
7. Nature Boy
8. Welcome To This World
So jealous of you bass players right now…
YES!!! One of my favourite bands, I’ve been a fan for 26 years and I am so pleased some of my requests may show up. As for the 6 string bass thing, there is no need, playing certain notes an octave higher or lower is no bother, they were transcribed for 4 string when they came out. ‘Jerry’ main riff difference is tapping the D instead of the C string, but 2 frets lower (the octave below, it’s really easy). And for all the talk about the basslines, don’t forget Larry is a sick guitarist, and some of his solos are Vernon Reid levels of difficulty!
Yeah Man, totally agree it’s gonna be challenging for both bassists and guitarists, I mean who can attempt to play anything from Primus without getting up and busting a move.
Thank his I’m going to the Rollin stones concert tonight …. I can listen to a real guitarist play and clear my mind of this weak pick… Later fellas
3 comments to tell us you hate it, ok, we get it already, jeez… plus Larry LaLonde is a former student of Satriani, so you go and tell Joe what you think of his student not being a real guitarist, he’ll put you right.
And it’s been four weeks since we have had a better student of Satriani. Hopefully Hammett is next.
Yeah Ron Wood is awesome
Figures, finally some love for bassists but unfortunately I don’t care for the band. Rather of had RHCP or phish. I’ll buy the pack anyway unless it includes “Jerry was….” . I wouldn’t download that song if it were free.
Fantastic! I’ve been playing bass almost exclusively for the past couple months. This is perfect!
Peeps please I’m not negative I only state the facts…what has Primus ever done???… I remember when they were “popular” if that’s what you wanna call it… They blew… It a cult following band at best and once again ubisoft disappoints … With a has been band… If people are requesting this stuff they need to get outside more… Not hating just saying!!
Why do you state your opinion as fact? You don’t have to like them, but Primus is an incredibly talented and original band. I mean, jeez, they headlined Lollapalooza at it’s peak. Les does things with his bass that no one else comes close to. Larry was taught by Joe Satriani, and he’s an amazing and inventive guitarist. I know I shouldn’t be responding to you, since you don’t seem to be looking to add anything positive and only seem to want to cut others down, but sometimes you just read this stuff and can’t help but exclaim. Find something better to do with your life than extoll negativity on the Rocksmith forums!
Slayer has only managed to make four gold-certified albums, and they’ve never even had a platinum album. And here you are having a go at Primus for having a “cult following” and not deserving to be in Rocksmith? Get out of town
OMGOMGOMGOMG
Hoping for The Antipop, Eclectic Electric, Tommy the Cat, John the Fisherman, Greet the Sacred Cow, Too Many Puppies, Those Damned Blue Collar Tweekers, American Life, Wynona’s Big Brown Beaver, Groundhog’s Day, or Power Mad. While I like My Name is Mud or Jerry was a Race Car Driver, they’re not my favorites.
This is freaking awesome. Short of RHCP, this is my favorite bass band. Even though Les is way more advanced than I am capable of doing, doesn’t hurt to try. I wish I could preorder.
Les Claypool is an absolute badass on bass…this is going to be sooooo hard.
Now just get some more RHCP and some Victor Wooten and bassists will have plenty to work on!
Not to be that guy, but John the Fisherman isn’t the only other Primus song to appear in a video game. American Life was in Tony Hawk’s Project 8. Anyway, neat for bassists to finally get a pack really focused on them. There’s definitely a shortage of good songs for practicing slap and pop.
Thanks. I meant to say rhythm game. The post has been edited.
Short of RHCP, this is going to be awesome bass week. Tuesday can not come fast enough. This stuff is way more advanced than I am capable of doing but it’s going to be fun trying.
Primus are pretty cool, It’ll be fun trying to learn any of these. I emphasise the word trying.
Liam I’m with you on Southbound Pachyderm. Awesome song man and fits the strange animal hint also. If any of yall haven’t checked out the Hallucino-Genetics live concert dvd from Primus, I definitely recommend it. I’m really excited about this week. This is a DLC release I’ve been waiting for since I started playing Rocksmith, as the tabs online for Claypool basslines are a little hard to follow lol
2 strange animals: Wyona’s big brown beaver and Tommy the Cat.
So unlikely but, Southbound Pachyderm? Please?
Awesome news. Primus is one of my favorite bands. Les Claypool is a boss. This song would give me a stiffy if it makes it into the pack:
http://youtu.be/231PT-5nKhY
Primus? Primus?… Really Primus?… 20 years ago this band stunk… THIS PACK IS MUD!!
Seriously dude, stop being so negative.
Glad that I’m not the only one thinking this constantly.
I’ve never been happier that your opinion means nothing
