Rocksmith 2014 DLC 7/14 – Lynyrd Skynyrd

Hello Rocksmith fans!

This week’s DLC definitely comes from a Southern Rock icon, well icons, ok it’s a three pack from Lynyrd @Skynyrd!

The song choices are predictable but I think you will agree these are all heavy hitter singles that you will have a blast playing on Guitar and or Bass, no tuning required as it’s all E Standard this week!

Lynyrd Skynyrd Song Pack – $7.99 / Steam

Fun fact, all three of these songs have appeared in the Guitar Hero series in one way or another.

  1. Creed vs pearljam …. Where that battle one band put out 3 average albums and faded away the other has rocked the shit out of us for 25yrs.. Cmon Chris

  2. I bought the pack because I’m a lifelong Skynyrd fan, but that doesn’t mean I wasn’t disappointed with the song selections. I realize that when we get new DLC we usually see the most popular songs of that artist(s) included, with the occasional curveball. My main issue is that None of these Skynyrd songs truly showcases their famed 3 guitar attack. in fact, only one of the 6 Skynyrd songs available for RS contains an alternate lead arrangement (Sweet Home Alabama). I mean, the arrangements for Freebird are a joke (one lead, one rhythm? c’mon)

Lynyrd Skynyrd was a band that showed incredible musical maturity and more complex arrangements with each album. So rather than complaining that “my picks” didn’t make the cut, I’ll close by saying it would’ve been nice to get some DLC from this band that spanned their entire 1970’s catalog, instead of 6 songs pulled from their first 2 albums.

  3. I play bass exclusively and was jumping for pure joy when we got Brian Setzer. More of that please! I thought that was the most thrilled I’d ever be at DLC unless more Brian/Stray Cats was released. I never imagined that Skynyrd pack would have Call Me the Breeze but OMG it’s there! Throw in Gimme Three Steps and it’s awesome! I’ll be getting the pack today.

    1. ‘South will rise again’ nonsense bullshit comments aside (nice failed rebellion against our country, btw), this is a good pack and has some fun bass lines. Tuesday’s Gone is particularly fun.

      1. We need a battle of the bands pack like Neil Young vs Lynyrd Skynyrd, Creed vs Pearl Jam, Pavement vs Smashing Pumpkins and Nickelback vs anyone

  4. Glad to see this pack. Insta-buy. Happy about all three songs, especially Gimme Three Steps. I’m always a sucker for classic rock.

Speaking of which … I just saw Rush in concert last night in Salt Lake City – and boy, this tour reminded me how incredibly deep and awesome their body of work really is. They worked their way backwards playing at least one song from every album… usually only one… and the show was 2.5 hours long, if you ignore the intermission.

So I’ll join those who say we could use a Rush pack 2. Twenty studio albums (although one is just covers…)!!! No, um, rush… but maybe in a couple of months? That’d be cool… 🙂

  5. Brace yourself… I can’t wait to get home and pick up this dlc.. Ubisoft must have know it was my birthday and cut me a break..lol ..almost any skynyrd song could have made the list maybe more to come later??

    1. Happy birthday, and I’m glad that you like the band/song selection! 🙂

Not sure if they’ll do more Skynyrd (they easily could), but I personally am hoping for Rush Pack 2!

    2. With these songs, you’re almost at a rate of enjoying 2 packs per year! That’s infinity times what I expected. Great job!

  6. Great band… Kind of weak song selection in my opinion. Would have loved to have seen “Needle and the Spoon”. But, I’ll buy it either way. 🙂

  7. Good band choice for a pack, but besides tuesdays gone the song choices are pretty weak for a pack, gimme three steps and call me the breeze are way too overplayed on the radio and not all that interesting on guitar. I would have rather seen that smell, needle & the spoon, or saturday night special.

      1. Yes I did, gimme three steps is a good song but overplayed and repetitive. It is basically the same two parts over & over. That double stop lead part and those old rock n roll stretch chords 5’7 to 5’9 etc. And I personally cant stand listening to the breeze due to my local classic rock station being called the breeze, so you can imagine what little jingle they play during commercials to announce what station the person is listening to.

    1. Respectfully, I think that “Call Me the Breeze” and “Gimme Three Steps” are more interesting on guitar than “That Smell” and “Saturday Night Special.”

    1. My bad. Cut me some slack though. Adam Sandler hasn’t been in a decent movie in 15+ years. I can only remember so far back. Now I feel like watching both though.

      1. those are both still pretty good. I re watched little nicky recently, I didn’t think it held up well.

  8. YESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can’t wait to buy and play these!!!!!! 🙂

  9. Great pack. Was close to an instant buy before songs were announced. Became instant buy when Tuesday’s Gone was confirmed. Even better now with the other two known.

Question about cover songs in RS, particularly The Breeze/JJ Cale. The original artist must have to give their blessing, in this case the JJ Cale estate, or whoever ownes the rights? Does this make Clapton’s versions of After Midnight and Cocaine any more likely? (I’ve requested both).

Covers must be more complicated to clear. Hopefully we get both Dylan and Hendrix’s All Along the Watchtower, especially Jimi.

Additionally, is the reason why Clapton/Cream didn’t export to RS14 known? It’s a shame the don’t, since RS doesn’t work on a Mac.

Edit- I know there are already several covers in the game

    1. In the case of “Sunshine of your Love” (Cream) Dan Amrich mentioned on a UbiBlog on August 8th 2014 that they tried to get the licence to allow the song to be exportable, but the licence holder was not interested. Therefore that song cannot be played outside of the first “Rocksmith”.

    1. this song was written while band members where trippen on 714 qualudes…
and tomorrow IS 714…could have been a trippy coincidence..

“That Smell” as written by Ronnie Van Zant and Allen Collins….

Whiskey bottles, and brand new cars
Oak tree you’re in my way
There’s too much coke and too much smoke
Look what’s going on inside you

      Ooooh that smell
      Can’t you smell that smell
      Ooooh that smell
The smell of death surrounds you

Angel of darkness is upon you
Stuck a needle in your arm
So take another toke, have a blow for your nose
And one more drink fool, will drown you

      Ooooh that smell
      Can’t you smell that smell
      Ooooh that smell
The smell of death surrounds you

Now they call you Prince Charming
Can’t speak a word when you’re full of ‘ludes
Say you’ll be all right come tomorrow
But tomorrow might not be here for you

      Ooooh that smell
      Can’t you smell that smell
      Ooooh that smell
The smell of death surrounds you

      Hey, you’re a fool, you (2:30)
Go on stick them needles in your arm (2:34)

      I know I been there before (2:50)

One little problem that confronts you (3:28)
Got a monkey on your back
Just one more fix, Lord might do the trick
One hell of a price for you to get your kicks

      Ooooh that smell
      Can’t you smell that smell
      Ooooh that smell
The smell of death surrounds you
      Ooooh that smell
      Can’t you smell that smell
      Ooooh that smell
The smell of death surrounds you

      Hey, you’re a fool, you
Go on stick those needles in your arm
You’re just a fool, just a fool, just a fool
