Rocksmith 2014 DLC for 3/10/2015 – Jeff Buckley

mic

Greeting Rocksmith fans!

This week’s DLC is a legendary artist making his rhythm game debut. Three tracks from the late Jeff Buckley‘s seminal 1994 album Grace.

Acoustic guitar players rejoice, as these three songs are heavy on the acoustic side. The basslines may be a bit sparse, but the guitar tracks more than make up for it. The tracks making up this pack are Grace, Last Goodbye and my personal favourite, easily the best version of Leonard Cohen’s classic track Hallelujah (well, apart from the Bono version, of course!).

This pack is an amazing get for Rocksmith, and something I never thought I’d see. Also, if this opens up the door for more Leonard Cohen in rhythm games, then I’m all for it!

Detuning is going to be an issue for those of you who aren’t in to that sort of thing, as Grace and the bass for Last Goodbye are in Drop D, and the guitar on Last Goodbye is Open G. Also important to note is that the lead for Hallelujah requires a capo, so make sure you’ve got one lying around if you want to play it.

  1. I haven’t played Hallelujah yet, but I was surprised at how difficult the other two songs were. You have to really focus on getting your fingering perfect. There’s no room for sloppiness here.

    1. All these white guys just look the same i cant tell them apart, they need to grow facial hair to tell them apart

  2. i hope the next pack is like mily cyrus or iggy or….ffs people where are my “guitar music” classics? sabbath priest…ok i got some maiden and i love it but just ace of spades by motörhead? that was a bad bad feeling and with every other pack that feeling grows…
if you like all those packs good for you but i kinda feel left out here…
acdc? no?….ok….i’d bet a 100 bucks that if they’d put up a sabbath pack i’d be the biggest selling dlc.
    my 2 cents(more of a rambling i know)
here’s hoping for the next one to have something worth rocking to

  3. geez, youre just exploding with confidence. says a lot well all you can say is your better at guitar than a dead person..

  4. After playing through the songs a few times I am surprised by a few things. Particularly “Hallejuha” I was looking forward to this song the least because it just seems like a very simple three chord song and while it kinda is in the rhythm, the lead guitar gave me goose bumps while I played through. It is really amazing how much feeling he evokes with his subtle arpeggios.

I really like the way the guitar is tuned differently in the other two songs and I get a chance to learn unique chord shapes. Once you get the hang of them they feel really fun to play. I knew I would like this pack but not for these specific reasons. Can’t recommend it enough.

    1. Totally agree, I get a lot things from this pack that i like; playing in open G is much more enjoyable than i thought, and tuning to it only requires tuning 2 strings provided you start in Drop D. Also, playing the numerous chord shapes that require you to avoid muting the surrounding strings will without a doubt force you to play more accurately. I lost my capo recently but i am extremely eager to try lead on Hallelujah. I never had much experience with finger picking (other than bass) but that song is so beautiful I would be willing to work hard on learning it. Grace has sweet arpeggios on lead, however aggravating barre chords on rhythm IMO.. they are so finicky. Still wish it was a 5 pack with eternal life and so real but oh well.

Also, anybody who says there’s no bass is crazy. Last Goodbye and Grace have awesome bass

      1. Yeah it’s really hard to get the hang of those drop D chords, trying not to mute the strings, although, the more I play the easier it seems. There isn’t a song on Grace that I would want but I most want to learn. “Lover you should have come over” is my favourite song of his possibly because it took the longest t o grow on me.

        1. Interesting. I listened to a lot of him on Youtube (and will buy his album when I get the time and money) but that song i wasn’t so crazy over. Perhaps it will grow on me also!

and yes, those chords are tricky at first but will definitely become easier with time, like anything else!

  5. Rocksmith has been posting a good amount of, not your flavor, use the voting page. Im pretty sure they only implemented the request page to help keep people quiet. I’m not really sure it’s taken seriously though. I would guess no more than 50 Buckley requests had been submitted

    1. Rocksmith dev here. I look at the requests coming in through the app frequently. I can’t say that Jeff Buckley had more requests than say, Bon Jovi or Rage Against The Machine, but it was still enough to warrant a pack. (tl;dr the request app is neither a black box nor a juke box)

      1. I’m not sure he had more requests than Smash Mouth… I’m sure developer bias comes in to play when choosing an artist

        1. Never thought Smash Mouth was that popular; I only know All-Star by them. Jeff Buckley had as many requests as Smash Mouth I’m sure, but really who knows. I honestly don’t there’s a developers bias.. especially given your reasoning..

      1. The write up above says that the bass lines are sparse but the guitar made up for that as if one thing has something to do with the other. It doesn’t if you are a bass-only player. I was responding to that.

    1. I’ll agree with you on Hallelujah, although I’d call it mellow not sparse. But the other two (when Grace finally processes) are really quite active

  6. There is a reason none of his songs have appeared in a game as of yet. This could be the worst pack I’ve seen yet, A good week for the few fans.

            1. I agree, it’s one of my favourite packs because of how challenging I find it. Underrated IMO, possibly due to drug addict stigma.

                1. I agree. I thought I hated their music, but if the lead singer hadn’t sounded like he was hit with a rhino tranq before recording, they would have had some tasty jams. The guitar parts are pretty sweet.

            1. I dislike Deftones. I’ve seen them live and was not impressed, but others praise them.. and that”s okay. Never was a big fan of the Simpsons, but people praise them. Fine. Don’t like Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, or Madonna.. Coldplay, U2, or Jane”s addiction.. but praise them if you wish.

I personally praise Jimi Hendrix, RHCP, A7x, AC/DC and yes, now Jeff Buckley. I enjoy listening to Bad Religion, Beastie Boys, Eminem, Classified, Halestorm, and hell even Taylor Swift if I’m in a poppy mood. Gun’s N’ Roses? amazing. Molly Hatchet? great. Snoop Dogg? Shizzle up the Hizzle. There’s genre’s i didn’t pin point here because it would take too long to cover my whole musical library. My point is just because you don’t praise Jeff Buckley doesn’t mean I can’t.

Jeff Buckley is not the best musician in the world.. but he truth is, Nobody is. Praise what you praise, and allow others to do the same.

              1. You are free to listen whatever you want ,but this suppose to be a guitar game, and I cannot hear any guitar in this rap staff you mentioned(Eminem,SnoopDogg),or the 3 chords of all Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga,Taylor Swift or Jeff Buckley’s boooooring staff.

Where is the real guitar hero in a guitar game?
There is some guitarist named Satriani,Steve Vai, Malmsteen,Govan ,which in a guitar game where the name start with Rock (ROCKSMITH,can you understand?),you can spend a lot of hours or days or months trying to get the 90%in a song, and you can play for a challenge.
If you don’t want so hard staff ,you can have RHCP,ACDC,Sabbath,Motorhead,Metallica,Gun’s N’ Roses,do you know them?
To be honest, your comment doesn’t fit in any contest you put them, and be against someone who write their opinion mentioning the wrong spelling as well doesn’t make you as cleaver as you pretend to be.
Let me add that the way Jeff Buckley was playing is not better than a thousand guitarist in London’s tube or in any pub of the Country, not always who is in the showbusiness is a talented artist,(Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga,Taylor Swift,Nicky Minaj,Beyoncé,who knows why they are there?).
Anyway Casey, don’t add any stupid comment and go back to school.

                1. Next time you insult someone else’s intelligence and tell them to go back to school, you may want to fix all those errors in grammar you made.
Anyways, my point was not that those rap artists and pop artists have good guitar or are talented, I don’t see how to you got that. You said I’m free to listen to whatever i want and then mock Jeff Buckley’s “boooooooring staff” (the word is stuff, but you’re clearly just learning English, so I’m not going to criticize). I play songs by RHCP,ACDC,Sabbath,Motorhead,Metallica,Gun’s N’ Roses on drums and guitar often.. I mentioned AC/DC and RHCP in my original comment.. How could you miss that?
“Let me add that the way Jeff Buckley was playing is not better than a thousand guitarist in London’s tube or in any pub of the Country, not always who is in the showbusiness is a talented artist” Is there a point here? he is not the best.. he is good, and people enjoy playing his guitar part. What’s wrong with that?

There is so many more things wrong with your comment but I don’t have all day.

        1. Clearly you’re not a Jeff Buckley fan if you think “Hallelujah” was his best song… and “praising” him, far from it, I like his music, I don’t “praise” him, get it straight.

Do you fault Jimi for some of his best songs being ones that he didn’t write as well?

          1. Are you really going to comare Jimi Hendrix and Jeff Buckley? Jimi helped change rock and roll with originality, part of he only reason Buckley is so well known is for his smart idea of getting drunk and going for a swim..

        2. Hmmmmm, you are making an assumption that Hallelujah is his best song. I think what you mean is that it is prob his best selling and most accessible song. I wholeheartedly disagree that this is his best song.

    1. I only heard of Jeff Buckley for the first when the puzzle got solved and now I’m hooked on his music. If you like music with amazing vocals and equally awesome guitar then you will probably love this. Your explanation of why his music has not been in a music game is because you don’t like it.. not a very probable reason tbh. The way you talk about this musician who I guarantee was much more talented than you is really disgraceful. Don’t hate dude, appreciate.

      1. Well, I can guarantee that I’m currently a better artist then Jeff Buckley Casey. It’s pretty hard to play guitar when you’re dead..

  7. I havent bought a pack in about 6 months. I like some fast rock or some punk, even if its pop thats fine, but there hasnt been anything for people like me in quite a while with the exception of day to remember(which ive never heard of) or sublime (which really doesnt count for what im looking for). Come on rocksmith, i’d like to give you my money

    1. Sounds like you peobably have the newest CoD to hold you over until the next drop or 5th chord 5-pack comes out.

  8. Greeting from Tim Buckley, just saw the movie and there is a scene where Gary Lucas shows Jeff the guitar piece for Grace and its so unique I cant think of anything in popular music that compares

  9. I think the people saying he wasn’t a very skilled guitarist will be surprised. I for one believe his skills are beyond mine, up there with the best and I can’t wait learn these songs. He deserves a five pack and I hope they at least release a second pack at some point “Lover You Should Have Come Over” is my favourite song of his.

  10. The 3 main tracks you would expect from him are here so no glaring omissions, but would have been nice to have a couple more given its his debut. Lover You Should’ve Come Over is one of my all time favourite songs and Eternal Life would have added some diversity to this pack.

    1. I agree, but am I seriously the only peron who has heard “the sky is a landfill” by jeff buckley!!?? I cant be….

  11. Punie pun pun pun…. Seriously a great artist, pity it is a 3 pack… I thought we would have buckly’s of getting this… See what you made me do riff repeater
