Hello Rocksmith fans!

Wow, what a day it was yesterday. We all tuned into #UbisoftForward and before you knew it the hosts were comparing fighting aliens to learning guitar. For the first time since 2013, there was an actual new Rocksmith title announced at E3.

Here are some main takeaways from the reveal:

You can use your Phone (iOS and Android) as a microphone 😲 Also, in addition to this there is also interface and ASIO support in the beta test, so the hardline requirement for the RealTone Cable is slowly being phased out for those that see $25 USD as a barrier

There’s a lot of songs (including DLC from Rocksmith 2014)

Arthur Von Nagel is Lead Producer, and yes Rocksmith+ is subscription based and is coming this year

Rocksmith+ will have thousands of songs at launch which will all have chord charts that are generated with a proprietary AI recognition software (It’s not Chordify).

“and we’ll still have the note-for-note authentic arrangements for players that wanna play songs exactly how the artists originally played them- Each week we’ll release a steady stream of new authentic arrangements to keep growing that portion of the library”

Rocksmith Workshop will allow the community to create and add their own arrangements for songs licensed for the Rocksmith+ service.

A far more diverse library, including #MOARMETAL

“-music from all over the world from big stars to indie darlings- it’s the most diverse song library ever seen in music learning software”

Enhanced recommendation systems focusing on learning for all skill levels and more ways to track your progress

No problem bro

Alright, so now we are onto the information dump, first of all let’s get this out of the way…

Notice something missing? I don’t know how many people here use MacOS but it seems like you’d better make that BootCamp partition soon… Unless Rocksmith+ becomes iOS Rocksmith somewhere down the line…

The SUBSCRIPTION, IT’S A SUBSCRIPTION BOOOO!!!

Yes, Rocksmith+ is a subscription, we’ve all had a day to come to terms with it so let’s see how much it costs.

Users can take advantage of an entire suite of new and improved practice tools including Riff Repeater, wherein they can directly practice specific riffs in their favorite songs; and Adaptive Difficulty, wherein Rocksmith+ dynamically adjusts to a guitar player’s skill level while they play. These tools are designed to give guitar players control over their learning journey. Rocksmith+ will be available for $14.99 for a 1-month subscription, $39.99 for a 3-month subscription, and $99.99 for a 12-month subscription.

So, that is a bit pricey. We’ve seen a few Games as a Service music games before like things that don’t exist anymore like Guitar Hero TV and Twitch Sings. Will Rocksmith+ fair better than them? I’m inclined to think personally it will, of course a majority of people will not pay the fee simply because they think it will fail which becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

cloudburn on r/rocksmith had an interesting take while comparing Rocksmith+ to other subscription music education services:

Of course, a big question right now is regional pricing as $100 USD/year is quite a bit different in a country like Brazil for instance…

Alright, I think we can move on from the subscription pricing? Right? No… Ok the comments are down there, enjoy.

THE SONGS

What songs are in the game? Is there DragonForce? What about Metallica?

There’s some definite variety there, and that’s just the initial offering. Also who would have figured an Opeth song would be there off the flop 😲

Oh, hello Mikael Akerfeldt 😆

ADD YOUR OWN USER-GENERATED ARRANGEMENTS FOR ANY LICENSED SONG

Rocksmith+ introduces Rocksmith Workshop, a new user-generated content system that allows anyone to transcribe and add arrangements from a list of pre-licensed songs to the library. Now the community has more control over adding the arrangements they want, when they want. Rocksmith Workshop will let users create all aspects of a song arrangement, from the transcription to the tones. Community arrangements are peer-reviewed for quality and available to all users.

Seems like the plan is to have the large Custom Song community take their talents to licensed content with specific tools catered towards Rocksmith instead of separate programs to put out a quality chart (EOF, GoPlayAlong, UltraStarCreator, Reaper… You get the picture). It remains to be seen if the thousands of licensed songs in Rocksmith+ will contain the Gojiras and Ghosts to motivate the hundreds of charters on CustomsForge to come over to the subscription based service.

I am being a broken record, but Opeth being licensed seems like a good sign…

A PROVEN METHOD TO LEARN GUITAR

Rocksmith+ is based on the proven Rocksmith method, which features a unique visual interface, real-time feedback, and a focus on playing songs. 95% of Rocksmith users improved their guitar skills through this method and Rocksmith+ builds on that foundation.** The classic Rocksmith noteway returns alongside a new Rocksmith Tablature option for long-time guitarists. Core features like Riff Repeater, Adaptive Difficulty and Video Lessons have been improved to be more efficient and effective. New tools like MIDI Playback, Playlists, and Chord Explorer offer additional ways to learn, and the subscription will also include free updates for both new and expanded practice tools. No matter your skill level, Rocksmith+ can help you learn guitar or bass

MIDI Playback is actually a really big deal, this is going to help immensely when you need to know what the part you are playing sounds like, this along with TAB Mode and Note By Note is going to make learning complex solos/riffs even easier!

Rocksmith+ as a beta test right now is missing a lot

  • No Multiplayer
  • No Guitarcade
  • No Streamer specific options
  • No Tone Designer
  • No Session Mode
  • No Emulated Bass (Some people use it ok?)

What they have set ahead of them is a fairly ambitious journey, will they succeed? The musical landscape has changed a lot since 2013 and perhaps the Rocksmith+ team is right to take this gamble on the rise of Games as a Service and subscription based music formats. The licensing is definitely going to be easier, but will this game attract a new audience or simply segment their fanbase as Rocksmith 2014 approaches it’s 8 year anniversary.

Be sure to sign up for the PC Beta and say hi to Rocksmith Mom for me!

  1. What upsets me is the removal of multiplayer gaming/streaming options. Music collaboration is the fun part. It’s also the best way to improve the quality of performing.

So many great times hanging with friends/family to swap out instruments and musicians while playing great tunes. We worked together to sound good. Now there is no way to do so. My son and I played together for hours. We explored songs unknown to us until they were included on the game disc or the song marketplace.
I’m so pissed off. RockSmith was the first of its kind. It opened opportunities to learn an instrument for ppl who otherwise couldn’t.

And while the instructional parameters remain, Ubisoft killed the best parts. Let me guess, all the deletions and/or changes mean more money for the game creators or gaming system manufacturers.
The yearly fee wouldn’t even bother me if the features and catalog of songs were solid. But this version? NO THANKS

  2. 95% of what I play is hard/rock/metal. I’m not paying a subscription to have access to a bunch of songs I have zero interest in. And you can’t import old DLC/songs? So disappointed in all of this. Rocksmith 2014 is my most play app/game in my Steam library, by a long shot. Looks like it will remain that way.

    1. Yes as a metal head aged 45 the song list is kinda bum.. I’ll hang on until that is addressed since I’m sure customforge won’t be an option here.

  3. So let me get this straight…the massive library we already purchased from RS1 and RS2014 do NOT carry over? We have to pay a subscription instead of having DLC packs we can pick and choose from? More than half the content announced doesn’t appeal to me (Yeah, yeah, I know. Don’t play the songs I don’t like), but I no longer get a choice whether I want the new content or not. There is no guitarcade, no session mode, and no and I have to rely on Ubisoft to maintain a server? They are hopelessly horrible with that!

This iteration is a hard pass for me. I wouldn’t be against paying a subscription fee if it had the features we all asked for in the past. You can transcribe “pre-approved” songs? What are those going to be? Boy bands and wedding songs?

This is a serious downgrade from the game I came to love.

    1. Out of all the negatives I have seen regarding this iteration, the most outrageous part of it to me (and that was a difficult choice) is the notion that a lot of the new songs are going to be relying on community-based transcriptions. As David H pointed out, it seems like this system is essentially charging users for the “privilege” of doing the job that was previously fulfilled by actual developers. It essentially sounds like customsforge, but far more restrictive in library size and completely reliant on Ubisoft’s servers to function.

  4. Just to say something : apart the “tab view” of the music, I don’t see any real improvement. Yet, on the official RS forum, many people added a lot of good/essential ideas ! (but apparently, Ubisoft didn’t care at all…)

  5. Hello,
    I have one question :
    – no score attack mode anymore (with leaderboards) ?
I just ask because, with the mini-games, it was my preferred mode… but… subscription ? It’s not for me.
It looks like a (big) minus version.
    Thanks,
    Seb

  6. The subscription makes this a hard no to me. I don’t have any interest in paying in advance or regularly for random content. The biggest problem is that if it’s subscription based, it’s always online and ubisoft is probably the worst at making online games that work reliably. Even in RS 2014 they were a source of frustration when I would inevitably and regularly have to go into offline mode because ubisoft broke something again. Very disappointing, I was hoping they’d just keep everything that worked and try to incorporate vocals, drums or more people playing.

  7. I’ve liked the new functions, the learning system sure has improved! But as a Brazilian, I don’t think I will have money to spend on it, 500 bucks aren’t a pretty attractive price.

  8. Wow, the comments are, expectedly all over the map on this one. I’m glad there’s still room, and time to jump in the dog-pile.

So first off, as part of a group with zero interest in seeing moar metal and little interest at the moment in seeing more classic rock, it is SOOOOOO very refreshing to see Ubisoft and all involved taking us into consideration. This is not intended as a dig on metal or classic rock. There are songs I like and respect in both genres (more so on the classic rock side) but when you take an honest look at the DLC we’ve gotten over the years, the pendulum swung in the same direction far too often.

HUGH applause goes to the Rocksmith team for showing their increased recognition of individuals who have a variety of tastes in music. This, of course, does not go without some required comments. There are some peculiar choices in the selection of song from Peter Tosh. Have a listen to Stepping Razor, or Peter’s version of Johnny B. Goode as more fitting choices. The same can be said for A Tribe Called Quest. Electric Relaxation (with was a hit for them) definitely should have been in there. Also, while on the topic of mo’ hip-hop, one of the most musical production crews in hip-hop is Organized Noise. So with that, go deep in to OutKast’s catalog, Goodie Mob, or you could even include Waterfalls by TLC (also produced by Organize Noise).

So while I definitely applaud what seems to be a change in musical direction, it seems like a few songs were just chosen at random. Love the baby-steps though. Was amazed to see some of my parent’s favorites like George Duke, Gladys Knight, and a huge shock seeing Luther Vandross. (Definitely have some interesting tracks in his catalog). Most of all, WE FINALLY HAVE WEIRD AL. YESSSSSSSSS! (yeah my tastes are wide).

So as we go a bit more international, how about Sek Loso from Thailand, Israel Kamakawiwo’ole, Cecilio & Kapono, Kolohe Kai all from Hawai’i, and Morgan Heritage from Jamaica.

      1. Hmm, since you’re making an ill-advised deposit, here’s a worthwhile return on your investment-EDC.

  9. They’ll get happy subscriptions from the people who dished way more money to DLC on RS2014, so that will be a big loss to them.

At the same time they’ll lose pretty much all the casual players, because it would be idiotic to constantly pay for something you use only occasionally. So that’s a whole big portion of users gone. Another big loss there.

And then there are the previously general loyal fans who bought the game and few DLCs here and there from a sale like me. Have spend maybe 150-200€ on the game on the whole in 7 years. Have had couple longer breaks here and there but owning the game it didn’t matter, unlike it will with RS+.

I imagine that large portion of the people in the same boat as me will not go for the subscription (at least long term, maybe try for month). Just because it is just too damn expensive and quite many (me included) hate the subscription model in general.

So while they’ll lose large portion of the general fanbase I guess they’ll make up the losses buy forcing the remainder to pay for full games price twice a year until eternity.

So loss here also at the start but if the remaining people keep dishing the money they’ll eventually make profit with these and the whales who’d gladly pay $1000 a year and still be dissing the people who think it’s not ok to ask such prices.

We’ll see when the game comes out and reviews roll in. I’m not sure if I will be giving the game try or not yet. Perhaps if the features are somehow so earth shattering that I feel it’s a must try. So far it doesn’t seem so though.

Still I’m glad they made RS2014 and we got that, and perhaps they make some sensible alternatives to the subscription model before final release, but ubi being ubi I’m not holding my breath on that. Would be nice surprise though.

      1. Well if they force the game being even more online than it already was with the shitty (and beyond useless) ubisoft service I’d imagine custom forge will disappear, but that is most likely big part of their plan. Of course customsforge can and should keep making content for rs2014 because ubi abandoned it and most likely most of the players will stay there because of the ONLY subscription approach which annoys most anyone with a working brain.

Now they will get all the money from the subscription while the community does the work for them for free note cracking the songs for them. So it’s kind of free slave labor, and they could sack their notecrackers (which btw did amazing job in RS2014 DLC, all the respect to you) because of the free labor.. but that would sound pretty Ubi to me.

Of course this is kind of hyperbole but from what I’ve heard so far I can’t imagine this going any other way.

The content creators will of course praise the new version to heavens because they will make bank on it on the side, no matter how good or bad it is for the common customer.

And it does seem to have few good features, don’t take me wrong on that.. But what was the most important part in earlier RS’s was the excellent quality of notecracking and if they plan to have gazillion of songs, it means it will be automated / fanmade so that means the quality of that will be gone.

But it’s still beta so time will tell where they will go. Seems pretty grim at the moment, from the non-fanatic/non-content creator point of view.. but one can still hope. RS2014 was the last bastion of hope for real instrument games so let’s hope that they don’t ruin it beyond repair.. perhaps some other company sees this as an opportunity makes a version of a music game that would force ubisoft to stay honest to their customers and do better.

Or they do it themselves.. anyone can see from the streams that the RS crew have always been passionate people doing what they love so if it were up to them I know this game would be something exquisite, but the corporation behind them is out there to ruin it for all of us.

Hoping for the best though because I love RS2014 and their crew and hope all the best for them.. the non bought reviews will tell the story once the game is released. Still plenty time to think things through.

  10. It’s not about cost it’s about getting to keep the items without re paying. Why can’t they freaking add buyables as well . I won’t subscribe but I’ll pay my way as I go even if it. Cost ten times more in the long run I really don’t give a crud

  11. I figured the subscription based version was coming. Not for me. I found a teacher when new DLC stopped and making much more progress than I ever did with the game. Not knocking the game, but so much it can’t teach like an in-person instructor. Wouldn’t do a subscription service anyway.

  12. exactly what I was expecting and going to a subscription service is what I said in the RS forums a few months ago,I love the fresh UI of the game,I’m pretty sure everyone will get a 1 month or 7 day trial when the game is released,I’m hoping we see some new features in the full release,as stated by TRR that the beta is very limited and there won’t be any of the features in the beta yet,I would like to know if the subscription is cross platform? as it’s supposed to be out on pc before consoles, and I’ve got a pc that just about runs RS14 and I’d prefer to play it on xb1 when it comes out,but I’ll play it on pc first, and the big thing on session mode or play a song that was not in RS14 is having an option to turn on a feature so you can see the items your playing eg: A,B,C ect. In session mode they had scales but not showing the notes and root notes ect. To learn the notes on the fretboard is #1 in learning the fretboard I think, and having an option to turn them on in songs or session mode will be amazing and if there’s no such feature on RS+ then unfortunately I won’t be buying a subscription,I know it’s something small but it’s a must feature I think,I’m more than happy to buy a yearly subscription and want to purchase it,but if the learning/theory side of the game is the same as RS14 then it’s not for me,after playing RS14 for years I got bored of just playing songs in the end and even custom songs in the pc got tedious.

  13. rocksmith really add the french rapper “la fouine” ??? the guy has been found guilty two time for rape on minor….

  14. I understand and get all the new upgrades and such and the licensing which intern gets all the content for people to use, I get it. However…… Those of us, say 35% maybe more, that can’t afford to shell out $15 a month because we are on a budget are screwed.

Now before everyone starts jumping my bum about, ” well you got Netflix ” well actually I don’t.

People on a budget are unable to participate in adventures like this because of a murid of reasons. $15 bucks to us is food on the table to feed the family or more gas in our vehicles to get to our two jobs so we can feed our families.

I wonder that at any point did any one from Ubisoft take any of us lower income families into consideration? Well did ya??

    1. Rocksmith is a disposable income purchase. This game will not feed you, provide shelter or cure you of any diseases. In the end if the buyer thinks its too much for their entertainment budget versus satisfaction derived then they will choose not to buy. Ubisoft like any other company is trying to maximize profit for its investors and stakeholders and to deny that is living in a dream.

  15. I do not like the subscription model. I would be pissed off if I was automatically billed for another Lady Gaga pack.

  16. This sucks so much.

What particularly galls is the comment made thanking the fans who supported Rocksmith for the past ten years, because its us, who having paid for stack of DLC since RS1, and persuaded friends and family to get a guitar and by RS, are most shafted by this iteration. We already have a massive library of songs which we invested in. So what does RS+ offer us?
    Tabs. That’s it.
Any other new stuff? Well, no. Nothing that we asked for. Added instruments? No. Multiplayer over internet? Nope. Stems to hide the guitar layer? No. How about bringing back venue mode? Nah.

In fact, not only is there nothing really new, the stuff you get in RS2014 has been downgraded. There doesn”t appear to be session mode or emulated bass now. Multiplayer? Does that still exist?

And as for the massive library, as far as I can tell, it is now mostly AI chord stuff, sounds like they purchased the Riffstation tech. They say there is still note-for-note transcriptions but are unclear about how many songs that will apply to. Of course the Community can do transcriptions for them in the RS Workshop! Very astute, Ubi. Get the community to do the work and charge them for the privilege.

I am not opposed to subscriptions per se. I don’t like them but if I am getting good value, I’ll bite the bullet. I have a yearly JamPlay sub which cost me $100AUD in a sale. And its good value with lots of new courses always being released. But RS+ wants $25AUD a month which is a joke considering there is so nothing extra to what we already had.

Any goodwill I had for the RS brand has totally gone down the toilet.

    1. Oh man, 25 a month in Australia?? Sounds like they still need to work out regional pricing. In the U.S. they annouced it’s only $8 a month when paid annually, which in the U.S. is not very much.

      1. Yeah I read that somewhere. And sounds about right. $15US is approx $20AUD. Plus we seem to get hit with the Áustralia Tax. (Americans get guitars at so much cheaper prices than we get them).

If you compare it to other kinds of streaming services, its way off the mark. If they do a yearly deal like JamPlay I could be tempted but the pricing is key here. Especially considering the features lost from RS2014; it is a very bare-bones offering they expect people to pay for here.

The Workshop thing would be a winner but given it is only for their licensed songs, that’s disappointing. The kind of songs I would like to do transcriptions for are the obscure tracks they’ll never licence.

        1. Gotta say tho never mind the price of the instrument, Australian musicians kick ass. Rowland, Tex, and Spencer are some of my all-time faves 🙂

    2.  Of course the Community can do transcriptions for them in the RS Workshop! Very astute, Ubi. Get the community to do the work and charge them for the privilege.

LOLOL – funny but TRUE…..YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT…
We paid top dollar for 10 years of DLC.

There is nothing but new skins…..if there is something coming they would have said it by now……

No cap on the ‘service’. No promise the songs and your progress will be saved. (see all the songs that didn’t port to 2014)

Ditch the bitcoin OK ubisoft dude……him alone makes me not want to buy it….most annoying guy EVER…..he must be a joke and i am missing it

  17. I guess subscription model was to be expected. I hope it’ll make it easier for publisher to obtain licenses from some more reluctant artists (ZZ-Top, anyone?). I’m also hoping game devs would improve external sound cards performance with this edition, since if one blows built-in one than it’s pretty much sure investment in new motherboard.

    1. Don’t forget Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd (Roger Waters once said in an interview back in the Guitar Hero days that they wouldn’t release their music for a game until there was one that taught the player how to actually play an instrument….well Roger, we are still waiting!), hell countless others that have been requested so many times.

  18. you missed a big question.

For existing users is it worth getting the new software and paying $99/yr for years, or keep RS2014 with customs (i know dirty word)?

I’ll wait for example videos and song lists

      1. Rocksmith+ requires an internet connection at all times

Usually not an issue for me, but would suck when my connection goes down, which happens at least once a month….stupid comcast

  19. The subscription is crap. Not for the self fulfilling prophecy angle mentioned above though. Many of these songs will be ones I’ve already purchased, yet Ubisoft expects me to pay again in subscription form?

    Ubisoft has gotten greedy.

    1. That’s just the initial offering though, this week they could add 50-100 songs that you don’t own. Your songs are also still on Rocksmith 2014 are they not?

      1. For now. Sure I can play those songs. Once they ditch the real tone cable though (if they do)?

You’re also assuming they’ll continually add enough new content to preserve the “value” of their subscription. That is way too dependent on musical taste to be remotely guaranteed.

          1. For now. That’ll change. Look at Ubisoft other IPs. They’re almost as flagrantly anti-consumer as EA.

I appreciate you bringing Rocksmith to my attention when it started, however your schilling for them has gotten real old.

            1. Rocksmith has continually gone against the perceptions of what “Ubisoft does” and “doesn’t do” sorry if you seem to think 7 years of weekly DLC is “anti-consumer”

        1. You are right that we’re not able to predict musical taste. That’s why the goal is to cater to all of them.

          1. This is the mindset that I wish more folks in this room understood. There are so many styles that have hardly seen the light of day regarding Rocksmith. It is so refreshing to see you all stretching out beyond the safe choices of just more metal and classic rock. (Nice touch with the Weird Al too)

          2. I get that you’re a glorified salesman and have your bills to pay and all, but it’s undeniable that for the most dedicated of of RS fans this is objectively a horrible sales pitch. There is no reason for someone like me to buy your garbage new game. Your new product deserves failure.

Nice job evading the actual point btw. You’ve been taught well by your overlords.

            1. Mike, I’m going to throw away the strangely personal and incorrect assumptions about me and get to the point of what you’re saying:

The subscription isn’t worth it for you.
You don’t see the value in it.
You don’t think this will work.
You had ideas for the future of Rocksmith and this is not it.

I get it. You think I don’t get it, but I do. I thought long and hard about how the most dedicated of RS fans would react to the new plan. I even asked some of them directly.

Your reaction is not a surprise, and my feelings are not actually hurt that you are calling a product you haven’t experienced and have no intention to experience “garbage.” I have thoughts, but hurt feelings are not among them.

So…don’t subscribe. If it feels wrong for you, it’s probably wrong for you, and there’s nothing anybody can say that will make you change your mind about that — least of all me, despite how you seem to believe my role is one of sales.

Now, I can’t STOP you from subscribing, but it seems like the only reason for this dramatic performance being posted four months late is to either try to hurt my feelings so you feel like you’ve won something, or to have someone tell you it’s okay to not subscribe.

So, here you go — permission granted. It’s still very early of course, but it doesn’t seem like what you believe Rocksmith+ to be is a good match for your personal needs as a player. It’s okay that you’re not going to subscribe. It’s a personal choice, and I accept that.

Thanks for supporting RS in the past and I’m sorry the new path isn’t one you want to be on.

            1. While I’ve never been to one, I’m fairly certain that has never been the motto of any successful whore house.

      2. they should consider a break for users that have supported the game for 10 years. they won’t.

  20. For New people that has never bought DLC – Awesome

For People like me that own at least 90% of DLC since Rocksmith OG – It all depends if you have the money to spare for $12 to $15 per month (if pre-paying or monthly) Most of us paid that anyway when buying, on average, 2 packs a month.

Plus, I’ll be able to sample some stuff I wouldn’t have bought, just because it’s already included.

More than Likely, they won’t be able to re-license most of their catalog, but hey, we just switch to this other Rocksmith to play those.

    1. Sure you spent $12-15 per month already for RS2014. So what’s the difference? Well, the difference is if you had a lean month you can not buy a DLC pack. You have a choice. You dont lose your program because you dont want to buy some DLC this month.

With sub-based games, a lean month means you dont play. If the internet goes down, you dont play. And should Ubisoft ever choose to remove songs you like for others, or even shut it all down for corporate decisions, you have nothing. You pay for limited access and own nothing.

It is a horrible, horrible system that corporations love because they have all the control and the consumer has nothing. The only way people change this dynamic is to say no and not sign up.

      1. Absolutely. The goal here is to make you pay more to give you less. They aren’t even trying to hide it. Disappointing but definitely expected.

      2. You summed it up very clearly. Now that rocksmith 2014 support is over, and dlc have ended, you still have your game, your dlc and even your cdlc. All of that in virual format, so close to nothing. What will you have when rocksmith+ is over? Nothing, not even virtual format.

        1. Exactly. Consider this. I bought R2014 seven years ago for about $80AUD. I play it in varying amounts but I always at least a few times a month. So in value it has cost me so far about $1AUD a month, plus any DLC I buy but thats my choice. Ánd I still have it for years to come.

RS+? $20AUD a month. And a subscriber will own nothing no matter how many years they pay.

It saddens me how many people can’t see why it is such a slap in the face for RS fans, and yet I daresay they will sign up, thereby making all the accountants and shareholders happy. And just you watch, before long, Ubisoft won’t sell games anymore, they’ll put everything onto Ubisoft +. It’s only a matter of time.

        2. don’t forget ALL YOUR PROGESS – POOF Gone!!! also gone anytime a license is not renewed–POOF

      3. Well you have forgotten to mention one additional thing:
It is always the same. It starts with – Hey subscribe here and get all the content – sometimes later it goes on with – yes all but not the newest ones or some special ones for that you need the “gold” subscription later on the “diamond”… Look at EastWest composers cloud or Disney ….
This is because the industry always needs more money for the shareholders and there is no way out. So do not subscribe as this is the way to make the masses dispossessing (hope that is the right English word).

  21. This is great news, some cool features coming! Especially waiting for the tab and the workshop features, some fast sections are easier to read as tab in my opinion, and the workshop will allow the community to propose different versions for hands positions. I would have loved to put my own songs in the game to play them (not publish them worldwide for everyone if there are legal issues of course) but it’s already great to have this option. Hope to be in the beta, can’t wait to test this out ! 😊

  22. Really excited for this, I hope I can try out the beta so I can have a better idea if I want to pay 100€ a year (assuming it will be 100€ cause sadly it often is how they convert it)

Pretty cool to finally see some french songs as well ! Pretty old ones but it looks like the huge library will open up for more international diversity as well 🙂

  23. To me rs2014 is more of a “party game” now, to play some pop-punk shit with my buddy on guitar or bass. I had high hopes about piano being added, and for midi drum e-kits support, instead we got what most of us predicted, unfortunately.

The price comparison table against yousician is fine and all, but here’s more comparisons:

yousician has charts and progression paths (aka “beatable” structured lessons) for guitar, bass, ukulele, piano and vocals now
yousician runs on ios, android, pc and mac
one subscription lets you to use on EVERY platform, progress synced via cloud
had the microphone mode | any audio interface | piano via midi for ages
yousician takes 3-5 seconds to start on my ipad. No lengthy title screens, no “ubisoft services are down, cancel, ok, cancel, oh shi…”
had the “custom user charts” that were removed, due to users charting commercial songs (ohnonono can’t have that)
there are traditional / classic pieces arrangements they could have added (since music is public domain). I’m a metalhead, but my girlfriend can’t find anything to play in all my rs songs, yet somehow yousician had some stuff she practiced over and over. I play some fingerstyle latin stuff now too.
there’s a “free endless trial” with 10min of practice ingame time a day, having access for all non-commercial music to try it as much as you like

And SOMEHOW all of these were achieved by a small indy team in Finland. Maybe a year after release ubisoft will address some of these (very unlikely) , regional prices will be introduced and such, perhaps even cloud progress and platform agnostic subscription (very unlikely). But till then I’m sticking to what i have right now

    1. i wouldn’t pay $5 a month for yousician it looks terrible and feels like a simple phone game app instead of a full software package. Also it was a clear attempt to copy rocksmith they even sued them but case was thrown out.

      1. I see your point, it ain’t a AAA game indeed.
I’ve also had really poor experience with pianoo, skoove and piano marvel

But keeping production budgets and such in mind: yousician has riff repeater, licensed songs and a clear progression path to beat.

The reason I’ve subscribed in a first place was the course structure and just how snappy and no-bullshit everything was. I’ll take iPad version portability and cloud saves between devices over 3d venues and particle effects.

Things they lack aside of presentation: dynamic difficulty and gh-like “note highway” instead of sideways tab view – aren’t a deal breaker for me.

Rs2014+every dlc is 1500+ songs. And cdlc is out there if that’s not enough. All these make rs+ a hard sell for me, imho

  24. I am really excited for this. 100 dollars a year is less than was paying for DLC each year. I can also use some of the features to better my guitar playing. I am still a long way to being even a decent player and see some features as being able to narrow my focus on what I need to practice to improve. I see so many negative comments about the subscription but I say give it a chance it might turn out to be a great bargain as well as a teaching tool.

    1. I agree, 100US$ a year is less than ten (10) RS2014 full price (11.99US$) music packs, let’s say that each pack have 3 tunes and they cost 10 dollars each, those are 30 songs for 100US$, now for the same ammount of money you will have 1000+ tunes (at launch), I know that none of us will play EVERY song, but let’s say that you play the 15% of all those songs, those are 150 songs, seems like a lot! And you will end up paying 1,5US$ for each of them, wich is less than a single song buying on Steam (2,99US$), the more songs you play, the cheaper you will be paying for each, also they said that they will add more and more songs all the time, so that will low the price of how much you are paying for each song, cause you will have more, paying the same ammount, as I see things here, it’s a great deal!

  25. Excellent article and very informative! I see the workshop is only for songs that are already licensed and it seems, so far, that they will not allow adding of custom ones. I think going with a service model could be a smart move, but it’s definitely risky. I’m very excited to try it out!

  26. Take my money just give me some good songs. I think that will determine the success if they are able to at least get a few big names then what else are you going to use Yousician. This is the only worthwhile guitar/bass simulator case closed.
