  1. As a guitar player and a zoomer that didn’t grow up with this music, I find no interest at all in playing this band in RS, specially since from what I heard from the songs above, they’re likely going to emulate piano or synths to make up for the lack of guitars.

Which makes an interesting poll idea, hey Elliot, would you consider making a poll to see how many guitar players actually enjoy the transcribed synth/piano parts? I consider them either boring and/or awkward most, if not all of the time. But maybe that’s just me and most people enjoy them, so it’d be interesting to see what’s the general opinion on those.

    1. Actually one of my most wanted upgrades to the game is to be able to use my keyboard (obviously the piano isn’t a good option I’m not moving it or the tv), we already have a bunch of stuff with great players like Ray from the Doors, a few from DP’s JLord w/the Beast, Booker T doing green onions, the awesome Leslie organ on the Beastie Boys Attitude, among others. Doesn’t seem like it’s a priority though.

      1. I’d also love to be able to use my keyboard on the game, but I recall them saying before that, same as with drums, it wasn’t the target audience for the game, so who knows if it’ll ever be a part of RS.

I’d be more open to these kind of songs if we could play them on an actual keyboard, but I really find no enjoyment in playing the transcriptions on guitar, so I wonder if other people actually like playing the piano/synth parts on guitar.

  2. Every time I hear “Mamma Mia” I picture General Zod, Red Skull, and the Mandarin road-tripping across the Australian outback.

  3. ABBA is one of the only bands I have used the “suggest a band”-thing for. So I am very happy they are coming.
i hope Gimme Gimme Gimme is gonna be in the pack.

    1. I was talking about the turkey episode like a week ago. We are both old man, that’s ok. I don’t think they did use them. I believe it was something else but I do seem to recall they used something off of blondie’s album at some point. Probably call me or heart of glass. Those seem like the most obvious.

  4. One other outside possibility is “There’s Something Going On” which I believe was a big solo hit for the singer.

  5. Although I grew up with the ABBA generation I am not a huge Fan but honestly I have been waiting for rocksmith to release some bigger artists so I can’t mock them for taking one of the biggest artists of the 70’s and adding them in. I probably wont get this pack because I am not a fan of the music, but for Rocksmith and Ubisoft it’s about fricking time we see a NEW, BIGGER WELL KNOWN artist as the last year has had a few songs for everyone’s tastes but was seriously lacking in reputable bands.

  6. So disco, which is a tricky genre to find quality Non-repetitive guitar/bass tracks in, and the choice of band is one that is primarily known for its vocals. Disco has been pulled off before in Rocksmith with Earth Wind and Fire (genre crossing with soul and funk, sure), but ABBA isn’t even close to EW&F. The Bee Gees, sure. Jackson’s, Ross, Sister Sledge, The Tramps, KC and the Sunshine Band? Yep across the board. But ABBA? A single maybe (Gimme, Gimmie, Gimmie comes to mind), but a full three pack? Better off to do a five pack or two sampling the best of the whole genre than a single three pack from ABBA.

  7. Well so much for getting excited about year end. At this point my expectations for last week are a 3 pack of something that is at least rock not disco themed

  8. This might be the most popular band in Rocksmith. They were huge in the 70s. Cant wait to see what the other songs are. Fingers crossed for either Fernando, Does Your Mother Know and of course Dancing Queen. Bring on ABBA packs 2,3, and 4.

    1. I assume that was said with a certain amount of sarcasm. Actually I remember them as a music crime and being widely mocked and thought as an atrocity in my lifetime for easily four decades. I can honestly say I’ve never even met or heard any with even a hint of sincerity say they like them. I can’t actually fathom that this will appeal to most anyone. It’s a very puzzling choice for sure. Although Christmas time has produced an inordinate amount of hideous music this seems a very strange way of embarrassing that.

      1. Actually I was not being sarcastic. They have sold over 380 million albums worldwide. I grew up listening to them and still consider them one of my favorite bands. Granted they are pop not rock I am looking forward buying this pack. I suspect a lot of people will too. I get your post. For rockers they may not be very popular.

        1. Yeah that song about the pink toothbrush (I’m old ok) and who let the dogs out and tons of other music crimes sold a lot. They were made fun of, like ABBA, right if the gate (rightfully so on all counts) as well. The majority of people never liked it (that’s true of everything ever basically) and time has not shone any of those to be any better, quite the opposite, and if referenced are even more mocked and derided because they deserve it. Sales are definitely not the way to go on this it’s a super week defense that isn’t going to hold. Plus the history of pop music on either side (industry or artists) not only a lot of times don’t like or care about their out put will straight up admit it was just crass, calculated and made not only with out a care, but in their own words made to be and was expected to be disposable. They hoped to just cash in on the next song if that didn’t work. And I am way to involved and knowledgeable on this to go down the length of the rabbit hole to write everything out here or at all. I have actual things I should be completing, I will say that there are things I love, books, movies, music, art/artists, ect., that I will not defend. Quite the contrary. Is “M” the single most influential, copied, & ripped of movies of all time that still sets a bar that many things are compared to today. Yes, I see it referenced yearly. No one outside of film cares. But it is a master piece. On the other hand do I love house of Frankenstein? Yes it’s fun. But I don’t call it art. But don’t forget here December is supposed to be big releases with big packs. This will not go down well. Disco is literally the music genre that sold the most records that was the most hated, even by the people who made it, ever & it did not age well. While Larry Graham, Tom Waits & other artist from the decade are legends whose influence on musicians, culture and audience has only grown, & not waned for 40 years (I deliberately didn’t pick some of the big often requested artists that would’ve been obvious for decade, I was just making a point). You can like it (I don’t care) & that’s fine, just don’t kid yourself about what it really is (I don’t pretend Muderdolls are genius but that second album is pretty fun. I just won’t defend it) & since I’m keeping track, ironically I can still say I never met anyone who likes ABBA (Which side part of what makes the ABBA turd joke in Priscilla queen of the desert, funny). But as I guy with over 10,000 (maybe 20,000, it’s over 10 terabytes since I try and back everything these days just Incase) albums not downloaded music (I miss free packages from record labels, anyone else remember that?) who was affiliated on some level with the industry at a time and ran a super eclectic music show crossing that time frame and many genres, from around the world as well, ABBA, as a group, the people might be awesome, but musically, the vast majority of the audience out there and let alone the industry industry (except who ever is getting a royalty check) are not clambering for the group. Then take into account the audience here. While I would love some individuals and groups from around the world of varying styles who artists and critics can’t praise enough, & there are genres that even by demand are woefully either underrepresented or unrepresented in the game, do you think with an audience that wants literally almost exclusively metal, hard rock, rock and classic rock, in December when people are hoping for a L.Z., Sabbath, Dire Straits, RHCP, NIN, Metallica crowd that a 3 song disco pop group was the smart move? It’s not going to a crowd pleaser. But the timing is actually the insulting part. Any other month slipping this in would be a ,”Whatever” move, after a year where the vast majority feels like things have gone off the rails? This won’t go well. I’m just assuming the ps5 & the other systems coming out next year will be getting a new Rocksmit, and anything big is getting saved for then. In the meantime, I ha have never bought so little dlc in a year, which means I’ve saved well over $100s from what I’ve averaged from every other year. That will help pay for my ps5 next year.
