Speculation: Rocksmith 2014 to get a second dose of 90s Rock

Well Rocksmith 2014 fans, it looks like this week will be our second mixed bag DLC since Female Lead Singles.

This week we have two hints from @UbisoftStudioSF AKA @DanAmrich!

I can’t take credit for this one at all. Chalupa Joe on SomethingAwful Forums instantly remembered that Spin Doctors Two Princes was featured in a car commercial for the Peugeot 307 with the tagline “Demands Attention”. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSNVrKox53s

Dude, not cool.

This is our best guess, but we could be completely wrong.

Whoops, we were…

Update: The third second hint for single #2 has been revealed!

Now I’m a grown man
With a child of my own
And I swear, I’ll never let her know
All the pain I have known

Anyone else surprised it isn’t Santa Monica?

What other song would round out this release? Do you like this offering of 90s Hits better than the last one? Let us know!

  1. Just a small point. When did it change from couldn’t care less to could care less? I’m not a grammar nazi but please get that one right. It never has been and never shall be could care less think about how it sounds. What you are actually saying is you could care.

  2. So they are actually going to make us wait until tomorrow for the third song? Must be Metallica, rejoice

  3. this is a joke right cause the guy has daddy issues we have to suffer for it and the other 2 pathetic can’t even call them songs just noise this games gone to hell thank god summer is almost here

  4. Everclear that’s like 90s flashback to the extreme. I hope next few weeks seven Mary three, sponge candlebox, and crash test dummies

  5. Nice. So we’re looking at “Two Princes” by Spin Doctors (hey haters, check out the bass line) and “Father of Mine” by Everclear. I wonder what #3 will be!

  6. Guys, let’s face it, bad news travels faster than good. People who are not happy with the dlc selection will complain faster than those who are happy and are downloading. I still think that it is brilliant that we are getting new songs on a regular basis and like most of you I check riff repeater on a daly basis. I’m writing this from the island of mykanos, Greece, after a shit load of drinks but I am still finding time to check into riff repeater. We have our own community, and that puts a smile on my face. Peace to all. Now what is the last song of the 3 pack?

  7. Im not a spin fan but im glad we get weekly chances for something new they should put the songs from the first rocksmith game up for download theres a few id be willing to get but i wont purchase the first game

  8. If we’re going for some 90s rock, why not something that is actually good?
    Dinosaur Jr
    Sonic Youth
    (more) Chili Peppers
    Faith No More

    Spin Doctors? No thank you.

    1. You realize that “good” is subjective, right?

What you meant to say was “Wah, wah, wah, I only want things that I like. Boo hoo!”

      1. you’re maybe right about haters, but i definitely agree with Matthew, cause either Dinosaur Jr, Sonic youth, RHCP, and faith no more would be ALL some better addition to rocksmith than the lasts weeks DLC…

        1. That’s not my point, though. The point is that instead of whining and complaining that you don’t like something and wish it was something else, maybe just don’t and be happy for someone who does think it’s “good.”

The complaining is not doing anything. If you want to be productive, go put in a request for those bands.

          1. if you could find my past comments, you could see that i often say “i’m happy for those who waited for that band…etc etc” even if i don’t like the mentioned band, cause, yes, we need music for all tastes.
but, if Ubi tell me it’s a pack from 90’s alt/indie rock bands, i’m waiting for bands more exciting than the bands released this week..
so, yes maybe we can say i’m complaining..

and, i have been on the Ubi request page several times.. so i guess i’m productive.. 😛

  9. So, just throwing this out there:

I’ve been noticing a lot of people complaining about “DLC that nobody wants.” Well, did you stop to consider that maybe it is selling REALLY well? Perhaps the people that love it are buying it, playing it, and are happy? Maybe they aren’t wasting their time complaining on a forum about how sad, letdown, upset, [other first-world problems] they are?

If it’s selling, they aren’t doing anything wrong. Perhaps we could go for more variety, sure. However, if them making some extra money now on 90s rock, pop/rock, and alternative will yield bigger licenses in the future, I am all for the wait.

Just step back and put things in perspective. Is life really so bad that you need to spend all this time complaining? Why not take this for what it is: a fun game to learn and practice guitar/bass.

Joe Walsh once said, “I can’t complain but sometimes I still do; life’s been good to me so far.” Just think about it.

    1. Did you ever stop to consider that maybe these items do to sell that well but they are cheap to license? I would bet that Dylan might be the only artist in the top 20 most requested that we have seen in the past 2 months.

  10. That’s weird – I was just thinking about the Black Crowes for DLC, but I’d prefer “Twice As Hard” myself. “Hard To Handle” gets so much airplay on classic rock stations, it’s getting pedestrian. Spin Doctors? – nah.

  11. song #3
needs to be a crowd pleaser for a pack purchase

the 1st 2 are set list worthy for a lot of Bar Bands
as they can get the chic’s dancing

  12. Well, for me a 90 pack would be perfect:

The black crows- Hard to handle.
    Spin doctors- Two princess
    Matchbook romance- Monster 😈 😈

      1. I’m going to try this. I got a ‘high end’ capo, and I can’t get the @!#$% thing to work right. Sometimes going redneck is actually the best route.

  13. Good to know that after nearly seven years of varied songs, the music game scene is still crying over not getting their favorite metal band.

  14. face it people these music games all die quick because of situations like this there is no variety in this game for all people its only cheap junk that i could buy a license for.

      1. You are so right … I already talked to all my neighbours … We will boycott this week DLC as long as you wish ronny … Your words touched my soul … You are such a prophet … I was always waiting for a leader like you … And please please … Tell me all your favourite bands .. I will pray for them. … Oh greatest ronny ever … Btw., are you ronny the monkey?

        1. ^ +1

just because it’s 4/20 doesn’t mean you have to spark up all day Ronny..

your 1 small fish in a great big ocean

          😯

    1. Yup, when I look at the last 5 weeks of DLC I see absolutely zero variety..

A Day To Remember, Matchbox Twenty, AFI, Bob Dylan, and Garbage.

Just the same old thing week after week. 🙄

    2. I think generally people do implicitly boycott DLC they don’t like by not buying it. I know some people just buy everything, but I think most only buy songs they like or think are fun to play. Personally, besides the Dylan track pack (and, finally, the RS1 songs download), I haven’t bought any DLC in months.

  15. Runaway Train by Soul Asylum would be fantastic, one of the only bands of this type that I really like.

    1. not a bad idea but since harmonix was never able to get the license for this band its not happening the band dosen’t own the right to that song

  16. Is anyone really surprised by the comments? We as consumers do our part by supporting the game, doesn’t seem like anyone at rocksmith has any concern about what we want.

At this point we will probably see a Savage Garden 5 pack

    1. No, because 20 complaining metalists does not grant you anything.

Believe me, I have my list of songs or even genres I want to play and I didn’t see shit from them yet and I’m not surprised. Stop complaining about ones that actually can be fun to play, there wasn’t much of them either.

      1. Why jump to the assumption that everyone is a metalist? I could care less if screaming metal comes, I just want something more recent from bands that have more of a catalog than one song.

Face it, the selection over the past few months has been week at best.

        1. Don’t get me started, there’s barely anything since Rocksmith 1 that I listen to. It still doesn’t bother me, there’s plenty in those ~300 songs that I still can’t play, I don’t need new stuff. You’re that good or you need some tips?

          1. Actually I’ve completed over 100% on every track from both games. But it’s not about learning for me, it’s about enjoying the experience.

I’m bored, and if I’m going to pay for more music I want it to be something I acutely enjoy listening to.

            1. I’mmmmmmmm gonna have to call BS on that statement… No videos at all and you expect us to believe that you have 100%+ in “Bat Country”, “Cemetery Gates” and “Satch Boogie”??? I don’t think so. Trollie Blowhard is your new name.

                  1. OK… That’s respectable. 😉

I just don’t understand the people that get butthurt about the DLC. If you don’t like what Ubi puts out, don’t buy it. Save your DLC money and buy a tab book for the groups you want to learn and learn the songs. I haven’t bought any DLC in months, but I finally just decided to learn the music that I love outside of the game and found a really good site to do it with (and I actually learn the songs better, quicker and commit to memory faster than with RS, so that’s a bonus in and of itself).

Anyway – nice score on Cult of Personality…

                    1. I think it just comes down to excitement. I’ve played for over 30 years now it this is way better than sitting down with a boring tab book. We are all just waiting for that special band that we hold close to our hearts to show up one week. But then it’s the spin doctors 😉

    1. better than ezra is metal compared to spin doctors i’m with ya ditch the crap don’t download this week spread the word

            1. Do NOT tease me with your Better Than Ezra talk. My all time favorite band, haters can say whatever they want about that. If even one BTE track makes it’s way onto Rocksmith, I’m gonna go buy another copy of the game just to stick under my pillow at night.

                  1. Amen… I’d buy a Better Than Ezra pack in a heartbeat. Always wondered why they had a promotion like that with the group, but never added any of their songs…

  17. so europe gets ratm ubisoft gets pissed cause it leaked so now were getting a mixed bag of dog shit i hope no one with a brain will download this spin doctors crap i hated them in the 90s and i still do and the black crows are played out worse than kanye west

its just all rock band songs its cheaper just to play the game rather than redownload all rockband dlc seperatly damn the corp that killed bandfuse they caused this

  18. Man, Elliott, is there some way to moderate these comments? They’ve been getting worse and worse every week?

      1. I don’t get the dlc schedule I mean they will release like 250 songs at most a year at this rate and they don’t release more stones instead they feel the need to add ADTR , AFI and garbage bands that no one really cares for. Time will tell if the dlc holds interest but they are on the wrong track for me.

      1. 1981 actually; idk clue doesn’t mention that all of the dlc will be from the 90s; seems like we’re assuming that since two princes was released in the 90s

  19. I would like to see the top 20 requested band/songs just to see if any of the dlc from the past 2 months appear on it.

  20. this dlc is pathetic right genre shitty music your losing my money ubisoft i’m enjoying playing with a real amp instead of colored bars

  21. Finally some real electric guitar music like the black crowes so much better than most of the dlc in the last couple of months. Spin doctors has good bass parts that actually require skill not the 4 notes from garbage

  22. Somebody’s been making the rounds with the 25 inch black dildo… I lot of butthurt today… Understandable, given, you know, the black dildo.

    1. i think your in the wrong place pretty heavy into dildo’s i’m sure you can search for a forum with others that share your anal pleasure

    1. I wish.

Alas, there’s no “oh” in that song. It’s “yeah….yeah….yeah….yeah….whoooaaa-oooaa-oooa”

      😥

  23. i used to love Spin doctors… when i was 12 yo and my music knowledge was at its beginning.
so i may take that one as homage to my childhood, and The black crowes are : yeah, why not.. but i’m not excited for this..
but seriously, 90’s has some much good bands…a real pack from 90’s could be something like that :
    Sonic youth/Melvins/Sepultura
(just to mention three bands that i haven’t mention yet… cause there are hundreds good bands from that era)

  24. Black Crows = cool, real music.
Spin doctors = pop-shite (I was 16 when they came out and a mate had the album. It was terrible).

  25. One of these maybe?:

In the Meantime, Possum Kingdom, Plowed, Sex and Candy, One Headlight, The Way, Inside Out, Closing Time, My Own Worst Enemy, Shine, Mr. Jones, Lightning Crashes, Runaway Train, Lump, Pretend We’re Dead, Hunger Strike.

I refrain from putting Gin Blossoms or Collective Soul on this list because I think they are 3 pack material.

    1. Hunger Strike on that list… ❓ Temple of the dog weren’t some 90’s middle of the road rock band.. They were a tribute super-group (before their members were considered super by the masses) to a sadly departed vocalist of a cult followed precursor band to a super amazing, RS DLC featured, band containing members of above group.

Gin blossoms and collective soul, despite their merits as 90’s mainstream bands, should make your list long before T0tD.

      1. TotD still has one hit they are primarily known for. I know they could do a 3 or 5 pack, but with the core members being in Soundgarden and Pearl Jam I think that isn’t probable.

I was also going by likely hood of having 1 song in this pack. I think it was unlikely to have Gin Blossoms (Found Out About You, Hey Jealousy) or Collective Soul (Shine, December) as they both have 2+ strong singles. I also apparently put Shine on the list despite saying I didn’t.

The amount of time it took me to make that list: Less than 5 minutes just going off memory by 90s bands biggest hits.

  26. if there’s any topicality to the first one then I expect Sixpence None The Richer, but I would like tu strum along to both Kiss Me and There She Goes, nice songs

    1. agreed, if they do that spin doctors song they need their heads read. It’s called ROCKsmith, not Popshitsmith.

        1. Put on a great show. Didn’t go to specifically see them but they were playing and I was surprised at how good their material was… Two Princes was actually the weakest song of their set.

  27. If much rather see she talks to angels. I’m stating to wonder if they have anymore rock bands lined up or if we are just looking at more pop from here out.
