Speculation: Something Rancid in Rocksmith next week

Hello Rocksmith fans!

Seems like @DanAmrich isn’t ready to confirm that we are right about next week’s DLC, but I am pretty confident that this:

equals this!

Yeah, looks like the bass solo from Rancid’s Maxwell Murder!

Which also means that I was right (again) about the newsletter hint pointing towards Ruby Soho!

What other songs am I hoping make it into the Rancid song pack?

Hyena may be one of the first punk videos I ever saw when I was like 13 years old staying up late watching The Wedge on MuchMusic… Pretty sure I wasn’t supposed to be awake, take that parents!

With 5.7 million+ views on YouTube Timebomb is pretty much a lock to be in… It’s also a great song and would give some much needed ska flavour to the Rocksmith library!

I remember I was so excited when Salvation got put into Guitar Hero II, even if it was a cover…

Are you excited for a truly punk band to be added to Rocksmith 2014? I’m sure bassists are, but if you aren’t let us know!

… Start practicing

  1. Oh yeah and I agree with Simon. I do think punk tunes should be cheaper though, since most songs are 25 seconds long and involve little to no recognizeable music…teenagers from mars…blah blah blah we don’t care…20 eyes in my sooooup…

  2. I am hoping noone reads this thread now that the new one is out. I just want to say how beautiful and thoughtful the lyrics are in these wonderful heartwarming tunes. Rancid is such a charming bunch of gentlemen. I think that Gentlemen’s Warehouse should get them to do some ads. Really getting into that-a funkae muzak.

  3. Punk is so horribly under-represented in Rocksmith. To me, it’s the genre that told the world that it’s ok to just pick up the guitar and pound out something fast and fun. You don’t have to be brilliant, just pick it up and have fun with it. To me, that’s a philosophy that Rocksmith can encourage. Would definitely love to see some of the old punk/hardcore stuff too – Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys, Bad Brains, Black Flag – but this is definitely a good start. I’ll be in for the full pack, regardless of the songs.

  4. Is anyone else having trouble downloading def lep-hysteria on Xbox one? The rest of the pack worked just not def lep.

  5. All you M Effers saying Rancid isn’t punk…yeah no shit!! I’m sure if you ask them they would even tell you they’re not punk. If anything they’re a punk-reggae so-cal type band, i.e. Sublime, No Doubt..

  6. Punk was 70’s & 80’s not 90’s no punk fans listen to this embaressing nonesence crap! FFS RS I am beginning to get embarrassed to own this software

    1. like anyone can listed to dead kennedys or black flag for more than 10 minutes at a time. Punk was about attitude in the early days but in the 90s it actually included people who could write songs and inspired music instead of just 2 note go f society anthems

  7. Oh yeah – going by the current theme of cataclysmic crap I predict next week seen its winter etc -Dysney Frozen – might as well can’t get any worse.

    1. You don’t have to announce your displeasure over the fact it’s not the three bands you actually like over and over, we read your comment the first time Sir/Madam.

  8. Ohhhh Hell Yeah!! Hopefully they toss in transplants-diamonds and guns!! p.s. This is the most vicious speculation comments page ever.

  9. stoked for the rancid, punk, and bass fans. Pure punk is always hit or miss on the guitar for me. The whole point of punk is just being an average joe that wants to get up and thrash on the rig. The minute you add harmony and technique your branded with the whole “commercial” label (i.e. Green Day). This can make for a pretty monotonous song for guitar junkies. I’m down for Fall back down, and Time bomb. Those two actually sound more ska than punk to me.

  10. Back to the good old days of 90s punk! Hoping its a 5 pack especially since most rancid songs clock in at about 2 and half minutes.

  11. Not pearl jam but still awesome, hope we get other punk bands like tsol, black flag and the Ramones. It’s not hard but they are fun to play.

  12. Seems like we have had Dlc which matches the artists name recently.

First the dlc was at an all time low and now it’s turned rancid. It’s probably enough to break poor Benjamin (whoever he is)

Big pile of meh! For me, and another week of money that stays in my pocket. However, I never expected every week to satisfy me as musical tastes are so varied.

Have fun Rancid lovers, but can we have a pack from The Cult next, or another pack from The Cure. ( Open, Want, A Forest, Torture and Never Enough) please 🙂

    1. Awww… boo hoo hoo. Someone is unhappy with the songs that he doesn’t have to buy. I’ll call your mom for you so she can go to your house and you can cry into her skirt.

      1. Ohhh. My feelings 🙁

Now I am crying from your savage attack. You even brought my dear departed mother into it, may she rest in peace! How rude.

Did you not notice how I mentioned that the DLC was not for me so I wouldn’t buy it.

Music is about opinions, you have yours and I have mine. I am not upset because I don’t like the same music as you. If tastes were all the same then life would be boring!

        Numptie!

        1. The constant complaining about DLC is exhausting. It’s never going to appeal to everyone. I don’t understand why so many people here feel there’s any validity in adding another “this DLC sucks”-type comment. On the other hand, I commend you for not requesting Metallica.

My mother just passed in September. I’ll ask her ghost to apologize to your mom on my behalf!

      2. Dan you are a classless asshole… Talking about someone’s mom… But I guess that’s the stuff you can get away with by typing it in a cpu.. Instead of saying it to someone’s face?.. Where you would get knocked the hell out…btw rancid is just that.. Rancid… Thanks for saving me my money this week Ubisoft !

  13. Is it just me or do all punk or punk derivative bands have one REALLY talented member and the rest of the group is usually below average or average at best, it makes them stick out like a sore thumb. Travis from blink 182, the bass player in rancid etc. This might be one of the reasons why I prefer prog and classic rock. Also, I hope they pick some songs around 4 to 5 minutes. I wont pay full price for short songs.

  14. I am a huge fan of Rancid so I will be happy to see any of their songs in Rocksmith, however I have requested Roots Radicals and Olympia, WA and am really hoping they make it in. I am also hoping that this is a 5 pack and I already want another Rancid pack.

  15. I’d prefer Operation Ivy, but I’m still definitely getting this. And finally some punk, it’s been some time.

  16. Zippety Freakin Doo Dee Da! Rancid, Putrid, Rotten, Puke Chunk McGillicutty and the Maggots! I want freakin’ show tunes. I want Sinatra and Tony Bennett. I want the Andrews Sisters and Danny Kaye. Just Kidding…this seems ok to me, I just needed to vent and this is where I go to do that…even if I like the Music.

  17. One of my favorites! Bass players who aren’t excited about this are about to learn about Matt Freeman! Not your typical “hammer out roots” punk bassists. This guy can play!

    1. Thanks dude, I’m gonna look into matt freeman. “Hammer out roots” is exactly why I’m not into punk rock.

  18. Great band! Very excited. I can’t remember the last time there was a real punk pack. Definitely will buy the whole thing.

    Only one complaint. I don’t own a bass. 🙁

      1. Whoa, the edge on this guy! Well instead of buying this pack you can always request some more Leftöver Crack. Lemme know how that goes for you.

          1. I suggested a few songs from The Exploited, Black Flag, and Cro-Mags. Reagan Youth and Subhumanz might be good too. I’d have to give another listen before I’m sure. So many good songs from so many different styles. I’m not even half way through blues standards or jazz standard.

  19. At least its not metal this week, not that punks much better to my mind. I’d kill for more funk/soul but would really just settle for some awesome classic/prog rock.

      1. Its been a great year for dlc overall and I’m happy for those who like this group but metal (and to a lesser extent punk, although I love the clash) is
just not my thing (with exceptions like Sabbath and Metallica). I’ll be buying “ruby solo” at the very least.

  20. “Brad Logan” from the Chef Aid Southpark Album. I don’t think that song is on any of their regular albums… although I found a demo version on youtube which I didn’t care for

  21. So pumped for this! Seriously, this is one of my very favorite bands. I’ve seen them play on multiple occasions, have pictures of myself with Tim and Lars, and they never disappoint. They are on a short list of bands that I’ve requested and have been hoping for since day one. I’ve been very pleased with some of the recent DLC but this tops all. Christmas came early for this over the hill old punk rocker.

NB4 “Tim sounds like Mushmouth and Matt sounds like Cookie Monster”

    Thanks Ubi!

  22. I don’t really know this band, but these songs, I’m totally up for learning. Shame some of them are so short but thats just punk. Innit.
