Rocksmith 2014 DLC 5/5/2015 – Blues Song Pack

Hello Rocksmith fans! Are you ready to play the Blues?

This week’s DLC features some highly requested classic Blues artists! If you ever played @FSGStudio’s DJ Hero you will probably recognize Bobby “Blue” Bland’s Ain’t No Love In The Heart Of The City, @OsagaTheGreat nailed the prediction on Freddie King, but just picked the wrong song (that’s okay Oscar), Howlin’ Wolf being included in a music game before Led Zeppelin is quite delicious, I only wish it was Killing Floor instead 😉 John Lee Hooker brings the delta blues to Rocksmith 2014, and to wrap it up Johnny Winter brings a flurry of notes for you to deal with on Be Careful With A Fool.

Only one off tuning this week!

  1. I know that no-one is still posting to or reading this site, but I’ve got to put this on. Honestly, I don’t think any guitarist is as beloved by other guitarists of various genres as Mr. Riley B. King. I’ve ready about guitarists from metal, rock, pop, jazz, gospel, country, rap, and of course blues praising and becoming friends with B.B.

I’ve been paying attention to this over the last few years. Fortunately, I got to see B.B. in concert when he played HNL in 2011. Even in his mid 80s he still had it, and a packed Blaisdel Area was one its feet for a large part of a amazing performance.

While this video is not my favorite version of this (my favorite song by BB) the video does show what most guitarists including Chuck Berry comment on frequently when referring to BB–his vibrato.

Ubisoft, if you’re listening–and yes I already made my request–whenever you see fit (Lord willing sooner than later) HOW BLUE CAN YOU GET is an essential requirement for any B.B. or blues pack on the horizon.

To not just the King, but the Ambassador of the Blues – The Blues Boy, MR. B.B. KING

    1. Note: sorry about all of the typos in that post. I typed it out quick and didn’t get to proofread it.

  2. Be careful with a fool on bass is making my fingers fall off. Awesome pack. Ordering by year to find them is a pain though.

  3. Well I hope Ubisoft looks at and takes into account the number of posts on this Riff Repeater site. (not sure if they read what we write or not)

Since Rage last year, no DLC has received as many comments as this blues DLC. Would be nice if this contributes to Ubisoft’s understanding of what content we all want to see more of. (of course this is being said with the understanding there are licensing/permission issues)

    Bottom line,
    Bring on more blues.

    1. Well, here’s another comment for good measure. The blues are so fun to play after you learn the basic feel for a song. I would buy any blues they put out. I’ve been mindlessly playing these tracks along with the Jimi tracks all week hoping I’ll get the awesomeness by osmosis.

  4. I love blues!! I’m thinking I have to buy a new guitar in honour of blues. I’m finding it to hard playing these songs on strings gauged for drop C. You riffrepeater guys should do a post on string gauges and different guitars for different music styles. I know I would read it.

    1. I read somewhere that those blues masters liked light weight gauges to make bends a lot easier. With anything, you take the good with the bad. Lighter gauge means less sustain but easier playing. It’s all a matter of personal preference. I play nines or tens on a les Paul. That covers most styles of guitar.

      1. Every time I change my strings I try something different. But I have to adjust my Intonation ect. for the different gauge. If I was was using 9-42 or 10-46 the strings are fine in E but way too loose in D or C. I like playing all different styles and I think I am just going to get a new guitar for everything in E and use my current one for a D and C guitar. I have tried a lot of different things even getting medium gauge strings that work for E and D but, C (Dethlock) is too loose. It would be cool if someone were to post an article discussing string gauges and all the issues changing presents.

        1. I use Ernie Ball skinny tops heavy bottoms on all my guitars and they are pretty good for everything. They respond well to lower tunings with out being floppy(low E is 52 gauge) and they bend easy once you get used to it.

    1. At least there’s only one loser on this site, everyone else who comments on here seems to be respectful and worth talking to. Gotch71 really has no impact here.

  5. Let’s see what rocksmith has in store for us after a month of sub par downloads… Maybe john Denver or Simon & garfunkel.

  6. I love when they do opposite sides of the spectrum back to back… Dethklok followed by old school blues couldn’t put the phrase, “Variety is the spice of life” any better… Fingers crossed for some jazz…. Vulcan Worlds FTW

  7. Seems like this may be one of the most popular DLC of 2015, or at least it is one of the most commented on. Looking back, only Buckley has more posts this year, and that’s not by much. (this topic is only 5 short)

A testament to the remaining popularity of the blues. (of course I’m sure that will change one way or the other, now that I’m stating this.)

    1. Wishful thinking in the form of sarcasm can be difficult for the small minded. My in sincerest of apologies.

  8. Aaah like a breath of fresh Hawaiian air, this just feels right. The Blues on Rocksmith.

So glad to be learning some of Hubert Sumlin’s fills. I know it’s asking a lot, but I’d love to see a five pack just for Howlin Wolf and crew. Or how about this. A ten pack from Chess Records. (Would need no less than three each from Wolf and Waters)

  9. Boneheads please I like the blues just the songs picked over the last month have sucked….
Give me your top 3 guitarist in the game not including Hendrix… And we shall see what u know about music

  10. This is an awesome pack! A proper addition to a guitar game. What still makes me wonder is why this guitar game still doesn’t have any rock-n-roll from the 50s?

      1. I’m with you on that. I requested Chuck’s Guitar Boogie, No Particular Place to Go, and Almost Grown.

  11. Hide Away and Boom Boom are really fun. It’s nice to have a little change of pace every once in a while.

  12. Can’t wait! I’m still of the opinion that if you want to be really good at rock guitar, you should have a solid foundation of blues guitar. At least that’s my story, and I’m sticking to it. =) Mainly these just sound fun. Gotta admit I wasn’t familiar with a couple of these, but I’ll be snagging the whole pack.

So as far as blues songs for RS2014, we now have this, the Blues Brothers’ “Soul Man,” BB King’s “The Thrill is Gone,” Albert King and SRV’s “Born Under a Bad Sign,” Bill Wither’s “Ain’t No Sunshine,” Albert King’s “The Sky is Crying,” Roy Buchanan’s “Sweet Dreams,” and Gary Clark Jr’s “Bright Lights.” Did I miss anything?

  13. Absolutely just what I needed. This is where it’s at. Love taking it back to the blues, would love it even more if RS would walk us through that evolution to rock, with a lot of Chuck Berry and the like…

Awesome pack, definate must own! Downloading today!
    Thank you!

  14. I’ve been wanting to listen to some good blues for a while now, but I never knew where to start. I think this is as good a time as any to get into it.

  15. This stuff may have been great in the 70’s in a Kansas City whore house with a bunch of pimps playing blackjack.. But it sucks 50 yrs later… There’s a reason you don’t even hear it on a radio station….. SUCK!!!

    1. well Dethklok aint on the radio – but everybody else loved it…

this is more what I’m looking for – even thoughit will probably still be several years before I can play Be Careful with a Fool

    2. I hear a lot of shit on the radio, radioplay is not a sign of greatness, having to find music you like is worth the hassle. people like all kinds of music like some idiots actually like Motley Crue, which I could argue is your statement plus 10 years.

  16. Definate buy for me. More familiar with whitesnakes version of aint no love and jeff healeys hideaway great pack. Hopefully not too long a wait before on u.k psn.

  17. geesh, you got Johnny Winter, thats impressive guys, I never thought Id see Johnny Winter on here. Nice Job Dan and Ubi Soft

  18. Aint no love in the heart of the city.. never played it in dj hero but that song will be in my head for a week now i swear! Will probably get the pack, even though i knew none of the songs before this article. Love it.

  19. Yeah, Yeah, YEAH. Imagine Beavis dancing. That’s my feeling right now. Finally making my first DLC purchase for 2015 and it’s a good one. The biggest thrill is for that man standing next to Howlin’ Wolf. That is Mr. Hubert Sumlin. And for that reason, I would have preferred to learn the licks he laid down in Goin’ Down Slow. No worry. Just about everything from Howlin Wolf is classic.

I have requested Boom Boom. Glad to see one of mine made it. (called that one on Saturday too.)

Have never gotten into Johnny Winter. Hope this will be a good intro.

Nice to see the 3 Kings are now all represented in some way.

Still holding out for that requested “How Blue Can You Get.”

My Lord, this has been a great weekend. Avengers 2 came out. (it was very good) MayPac finally happened, and finally the blues gets some serious recognition on RS. Next stop. REGGAAAAAAAAEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!! PLEASE.
    May the 4th B Wit U.

      1. I thought it was illegal to play guitar if you don’t appreciate good Blues? It should be.

  20. No love for Gary Moore, who is quite possibly the most revered (somewhat) underground blues-rock artist of all time?

    1. Not that I’m really complaining, I’m still absolutely going to buy this pack, and as a Blues Brothers fan, the inclusion of Boom Boom makes me just that bit more happy.

  21. You’re right Elliott.
I can’t request because I won’t use facespace…I have to wait for others to read my mind and do my bidding proxy style.

  22. alright these are all badass songs. I can’t wait to play him tomorrow.ain’t no love in the heart of the city is going to be expecially cool to play.

  23. I love the inclusion of Bobby “Blue” Bland. This is a good start to getting more blues in Rocksmith. Hopefully we can see regular occurrences of packs like this every few months. There have been numerous “classic rock” packs, or “alternative rock” packs. Hopefully we can get more blues, metal, etc themed packs more often.

      1. I hope his version of Little Wing would be included in that 12 pack. Are there any songs on RS using a slide? Would be nice to learn Give Me Back My Wig.

    1. You can’t just throw SRV in with the rest… He’ll get a large pack on his own, I’m sure of it!

  24. I have no complaints, I’ll be rocking these for sure. There are others I’d prefer to the Johnny Winter track and the Bobby Bland track, but they are still really good songs and sound great to play. I hope they can do another blues pack soon with more of my requests. I got 3 of the artists I requested here, that’s pretty good!

    1. I got two of the artists I requested, however; only one of the songs. Guess we’re both making headway. Congrats on your request coming through.

      1. I requested about 8 different Blues artists! One of them was bound to show up, 3 is awesome!
