Let me just start this by saying how incredibly thankful I am that Rocksmith exists and is constantly putting out new DLC for us. Any of you born before the Internet (shhh I’m old), know how hard it was to advance on guitar with Tablature books and no teacher encouraging you with “amazing performance”.
All compliments aside I wanted to ask the community what noticeable holes are in our official Rocksmith DLC playlists. The following is just my opinion and please tell me how wrong I am and what I missed in the comments (but more importantly, request songs!)
Obviously I’m leaving out the obvious Led Zepplin, Pink Flloyd, The Beatles, Metallica etc., so don’t even bother commenting about that.
60s and Earlier:
The Beach Boys
Sure we have surf rock, but it’s a travesty we don’t have the pioneers of surf rock to play through.
Dream 5-Pack:
Chuck Berry
Since we’re playing Rocksmith and the word “rock” is in it, shouldn’t we learn from its great-great grandfather?
Dream 5-Pack:
Johnny B. Goode
You Never Can Tell
Route 66
Grateful Dead
OK, OK, I know American Beauty technically came out in the 70s, but they formed and began hippie jamming in the mid 60s, so it counts. Regardless, we could use some jam bands in our sets, and who better than Jer Bear to teach us?
Dream 5-Pack:
Box Of Rain
Simon and Garfunkel
I would also love, love, love just a Paul Simon pack. Did you see his performance on the 40th Anniversary of SNL?
Dream 5-Pack:
The 70s
Fleetwood Mac
I’d especially love a few of their bluesy early, early tracks before Stevie Nicks joined up, but I mean c’mon, how do we not have Landslide yet?
Dream 5-Pack:
Go Your Own Way
Rhiannon
Black Sabbath
I mean. C’mon.
Dream 5-Pack:
Paranoid
Iron Man
Black Sabbath
Children of the Grave
Steve Miller Band
With a crazy amount of hit’s and a whole lot of fun guitar technique, it makes me sad we’re missing out on some of these grooves.
Dream 5-Pack:
Jet Airliner
The Bee Gees
I am absolutely terrible at funk guitar or whatever you wanna call this style of playing, but I’d love to have a challenge of playing some disco and singing crazy falsetto to prove it’s not dead (Actually, just checked on Wiki; still dead).
Dream 5-Pack:
More Than A Woman
The 80s
Edit: When I originally wrote this, I had The Cars here too. Hooray!
Huey Lewis and the News
Probably one of my favorite bands ever. I don’t know if it’s because I grew up with him, or if it’s because Back to the Future is easily the best movie of the 80s (fight me about it) but Huey is by far my #1 “wish it was on Rocksmith” band.
Dream 5-Pack:
(Bonus song) The Power of Love
Talking Heads
While I was not a fan of them while they were actually making music, I have grown to love them and have their entire discography on vinyl. Anyone who hasn’t seen “Stop Making Sense” watch it and tell me it’s not the best concert film of all time.
Dream 5-Pack:
This Must Be The Place (Naïve Melody)
Burning Down The House
Life During Wartime
Van Halen
This band might be on the “too expensive/hard/impossible” to license list, but screw that, they are 80s rock. Even the Sammy stuff I love and being able to tap through “Eruption” would be simply the best.
Dream 5-Pack:
Runnin’ With the Devil
Eruption
Journey
We have Foreigner, we have Boston, we even have Styx. It’s time to pay tribute to the incredible vocals and equally fun guitar work of Journey.
Dream 5-Pack:
The 90s
My decade for music is sadly primarily filled with one-hit wonders and 90s voice guy alt-rock (also the best damn hip-hop ever) but there’s still some good guitar work at play. Of all the decades represented, I feel the 90s are the most represented, but still these would all be welcome additions.
Goo Goo Dolls
Roll your eyes all you want, but listen to the guitar in these songs and tell me it’s not worthy of a DLC.
Dream 5-Pack:
Fallin’ Down
Live
Sure they pretty much have only one good album, but it’s nearly a perfect album with plenty of guitar to have fun with.
Dream 5-Pack:
Third Eye Blind
There might not be a more 90s band.
Dream 5-Pack:
Nine Inch Nails
Yes I know Trent Reznor is super busy scoring David Fincher movies, but in the 90s you couldn’t be stuck at a stop light without hearing those familiar warbles.
Dream 5-Pack:
Hurt
The 2000s and Beyond
Arcade Fire
A crazy popular band who have an epic, full sound that would be a blast top play through.
Dream 5-Pack:
Jimmy Eat World
Kinda like Weezer-lite, but still they have so many songs that would be welcomed additions to anyone’s playlist.
Dream 5-Pack:
Blister
Brand New
K, my last emo pick I promise. Seriosuly though, really awesome guitar and bass in these songs if you can get past all the sadness.
Dream 5-Pack:
Sic Transit Gloria… Glory Fades
The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows
Jude Law and a Semester Abroad
Slipknot
This is for all you metalheads out there. I don’t even like this band, but I can respect technique.
Dream 5-Pack:
So that’s it. Let me know how wrong I am in the comments and what your picks are. And as always request songs people!

TOOL! It went to guitar hero, gets me thinking it could happenned… (Vicarous, Schism, Parabola, Thick and Leeches..) and :
-Motley Crue, Kickstart my heart will be enough for me!
-Guns ‘n’ roses (Welcome to the jungle? November rain?).
-Ho, Rush as i’ve never enough,
-Metallica (don’t tempt me with anything!).
… I just had a last thought for Gwar (surely i’ll die dreaming of it!)
What I could really use are some relaxing post-rock songs from bands like: mogwai, this is going to kill you, if these trees could talk, etc. They don’t have lyrics so there’s no voice to grate on you after you’ve played it many times.
This Will Destroy You….
I really agree with you. I’d love to get some post-rock. Let’s all request it here: bit.ly/rsrequests.
One word….The Red Hot Chile Peppers
That’s more than one word 😉
And I believe that’s a Red Hot Chilli Peppers cover band from Chile.
Correct. “What?” is the answer. Thanks Dan. I just made my first puzzle!
Looks like you can cross Brand New off the list now.
This list would be perfect! Also needs Yes, Scorpions, Staind, and maybe an Alice in Chains 3 pack with Rooster, Nutshell, Down in a hole or I stay away.
Add some Jazz Guitar Wes Montgomery 3 song pack
Windy
Up and at them
Bumpin on sunset
Movin wes Pt 1
John Mellencamps ” Authority Song” fun, and challenging. Hopefully we get it on RS before I just breakdown and plod through the sheet music
Some more punk or indie stuff would be awesome.
Social Distortion
Pixies
Sex Pistols
Dead Kennedys
Sonic Youth
The Replacements
Would all be very welcome additions.
Agree with “more punk”, especially the DKs. Might add Black Flag, Circle Jerks, and The Descendents also had some great songs.
Flirtin’ with disaster ….great song for guitar players. More Deep Purple like ” Maybe I’m a Leo.
I’d second some Molly Hatchet…
Gator Country… chomp chomp… yeah buddy…
Free Ride!!!!
I want some Badfinger!
‘Baby Blue’ = requested 😉
Good choice !
You guys forgot to put Stone Temple Pilots, the Cult, Puddle of Mudd, Collective Soul, Hootie and the Blowfish and Rival Sons…
I agree with this. Especially the Cult. Sonic Temple please and thank you.
I looked at this list again. For Fleetwood Mac, throw out “The Chain” and “Never Going Back Again” in favor of “Big Love” and “Go Insane”. Sure there isn’t much for bassists in those song, but for lead, they’d be fun to play.
Fleetwood Mac could easily fill up a pack the same size we got with Hendrix. I hope this is the case for a few artists down the line.
A couple of good bands, but, man, this list of suggested bands might actually be worse than the bands Rocksmith actually picks!
Manowar, more Joe Satriani, Tool, more RATM, Joe Bonamassa, Gary Moore, Scorpions, King Diamond, Bruce Dickinson (Solo Albums especially Balls to Picasso), Savatage, Pink Floyd, Beastie Boys, Ugly Kid Joe, Rammstein, more Bon Jovi doesn’t hurt, Deep Purple
as per usaul AMERICAN centric playlists and requests….. you guys do know there is music made in other parts of the world right? where is the british rock/punk(you know the stuff they invented and USA copied) Australian music?? something from europe or asia
sheesssssssssssssssh
Lets be active, with an experiment
Lets work the system. I propose we stand united and get everyone here to request these three songs:
Pearl Jam – Army Reserve
Pearl Jam – In Hiding
Pearl Jam – Corduroy
Lets see if our combined requests can move the DLC
Request Link below:
This CAN only work if we all stand together, united.
I won’t even try to leave some response of what “I” think is missing but I want to commend the author of this for the Brand New love. No crazy guitar solos for them but, solid songwriting. I know Deja Entendu beginning to end on every instrument… it’s def one of my top 5 fav albums ever.
Too many to list so I’ll think outside the box…
Prince….The man ia a genre unto himself and appeals to fans of rock funk jazz etc….Would be an amazing addition to the library…
My God, I got a brief headache when all the bands I thought of tried cram into my brain all at the same time. I slow clapped for the Talking Heads, Black Sabbath and Journey mentions. My nominations include those bands as well as The Replacements, a huge gaping that’s-not-a-moon-that’s-a-space-station sized hole in Rocksmith,Concrete Blonde, Jim’s guitar tone alone is worth price of any songs that may come, Oingo Boingo, especially (Wild Sex) Working Class, and Candlebox, who I feel have one of the most overlooked guitar players of all time. I really had to whittle it down to these four so as not to write a novella in the comments section.
How about a Jazzsmith DLC similar to the Bachsmith DLC?
Some suggestions and guitar renditions on YouTube
(If you’re like me, you’ll instantly recognize all of these by ear, you just won’t be able to name them since there are no words.)
* Feels So Good
* Take the A-Train
* The Girl From Impanema
* In the Mood

* Moonlight Serenade

100% Yes. Maybe we can add some Whiplash in there too. Assuming J.K. Simmons will come yell at me.
I’d probably swap out Black Sabbath for Sympton of the Universe or Into the Void. Personally i belive that we shouldn’t have songs like Iron Man because for one, would it really kill you to learn the riffs to them. the only way they should be in this game is for the solos.
Two words: ERIC CLAPTON.
This old school rocks us up to these days with all his rocks, blues and acoustics.
I know one Clapton song was in the original RS, but it didn’t got ported to RS2014 so it doesn’t count, but still no DLC pack for this guitar legend. Cocaine, Layla, Tears in Heaven, Old Love, Bad Love, and soooooooo many other songs.
Nice list. Just know we’ve discussed all these artists (and more) here too, and we’ve approached a lot of them already. Licensing takes anywhere from “a long time” to “no thank you, please stop calling,” so we remain hopeful that some of your dreams up there will eventually appear in the game, too.
Awesome! And just so you know, we all appreciate the constant release of amazing DLC. It’s always nice to have these “wish-list” discussions and we know you’re all trying to get everything we want. I meant no disrespect on your hard work over there. You’re killing it.
On a personal note, I love it when you do lesser known bands (Biffy Claro, etc.) and themed singles. Also Bachsmith was pure genius. Keep it up!
Hi Dan. I understand why you might not want to publish this (“keep hope alive”) but at the same time I’d like to get some closure: so will you ever tell us when a band says “please stop calling”? I’m thinking Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Black Sabbath or Ozzy, Metallica
No instrumentals? Nib over children of the grave
