Rocksmith 2014 DLC 12/9 – Rage Against The Machine

Well Rocksmith fans, we are finally here. It’s time for Rage Against The Machine to make their Rocksmith 2014 debut, and it seems like it was most definitely worth the wait. You’ve already been introduced to the trio as Audioslave but now here they are in the original incarnation, ladies and gentleman Rage Against The Machine!

Ubisoft delivers us not five, not six, but SEVEN songs from the politically charged, rap-metal band this week. A wide variety of songs ranging from their self-titled, their chart topping follow up Evil Empire, and finally their cover album, Renegades.

Bassists will delight in the never ending grooves of Tim Commerford, Guitarists will finally figure out what Tom Morello is playing under all those amazing pedals, and who knows, someone might actually plug in the microphone to take on Zack de la Rocha’s rapid fire delivery, or attempt the haunting vocals of Maynard James Keenan (Know Your Enemy). That’s one step closer to Tool right?

Rage Against the Machine Song Pack (I-II) – $15.99 / Steam

Was this RATM pack worth the wait? Is this a day one buy? Or are you saving your money for Jimi Hendrix next week?

  1. Many thanks to Ubisoft for the hardwork on this game, coding and negotiating with the bands is certainly not an easy job.

I enjoy RATM and I am sure I will love the Hendrix pack too. Next year what about a Christmas song pack? With uncensored lyrics 😉

    1. That is a darn good question, but no matter where you live, I don’t have an ETA. We’re definitely aware and we’re making both MS and Sony aware, as it’s not “download on demand” on either system. On PS4 in EU territories, I honestly have no insight into when they will post it, as they are following a schedule that is different from the one we proposed and the one that US PS/Xbox followed.

  2. Got to throw in an alternate point of view here. As the Stones go to Muddy Waters, (additionally) Keith Richards and Angus Young to Chuck Berry, Clapton to Johnson, SRV to King and Hendrix to Buddy Guy to Hubert Sumlin and Howlin’ Wolf, Jack White to Son House, and Santana and Gibbons to Hooker, it is important for musicians and those aspiring to be, even for recreation, to know history. Know where things came from. I’m using Rocksmith for my own growth as well as my kids. I don’t want them to know only the music of today. My kids are learning from Rocksmith. It’s a musical history lesson for them. And unlike Rock Band and that other mess, they have a chance to really learn music. Even in songs that aren’t on RS, my kids can identify Aerosmith, Boston, Blink 182, Santana, and others when heard on the radio. (feel some pride as their father that they’re recognizing.) What I don’t want is for them to go blurting out inappropriate language, especially when I’m out of earshot and unable to provide gentle reminders/correction.

For that reason, I don’t mind censored versions of songs on RS. True, RATM may be a bit above the level of my children, however; if there’s a way to keep that door open, great. Don’t have a censored way to get them interested in PE (I hope someone out there knows who I’m talking about) so a censored RATM will do nicely. Add to that, this is a band Daddy likes. The lyrical content, like PE, includes other things to talk about besides the normal sex, drugs, and Rock N Roll.

Side note: Did anyone really buy Rocksmith so strictly for unedited lyrics? Just curious.

    Love Peace and Soooooooooouuul y’all.

  3. Random, but do you guys know what songs feature a slide except for the Petty ones? I just got a new slide ring and want to practice 🙂

Good timing too because Tom Morello is making my fingers hurt something fierce. This is an outstanding pack.

  4. Not happy about the censorship. Jeremy drops the F bomb and plenty of other songs are untouched with edits. Why was this necessary? There’s such irony in it too, censoring a RATM song.

      1. seriously? It’s a fucking swear word, yell it out yourself if it matters that much to you. It’s SO utterly inconsequential!

        1. It’s not about the word or that it’s a swear. I could not care less if the singer had said something else in place. What ruins it for me is the structural integrity of the song. Hearing it original my whole life and then hearing just silence from the edit is not pleasing to the ears. It breaks up the shape of the song for me. It just sounds off.

Couldn’t they have at least replaced it with another word?

          1. no because whatever they would replace it with would just sound stupid and there would be even more complaints. “Hey, Jim, here where it says, ‘baby we can’t get much higher’, we thought you could sing, ‘Baby you could bite my wire’. How does that sound to you?”

  5. “No Battle of Los Angeles?” Wah frickity wah. Pull up your panties and get over it!

We got 7 songs from them after two previous weeks of top 40 requests! And we get Hendrix next week!

Maybe we’ll get a BoLA pack after the incredible sales of these songs.

Eithet way, played these this afternoon and it’s more like Rage Against the Fingers. Ouch! Know Your Enemy is gonna take me weeks to master, if ever. Now THAT is good value for DLC haha

    1. You’re totally right. You should sell your copy, give away your guitar, and leave the boards. Then we won’t have to see your pathetic complaints anymore. Grow up.

      1. Nah, this boards would be all boring ass kissing without the complaints and some verbal violence. Maybe you should stop being b8 m8

        1. Actually, mission accomplished by having you admit to being a troll. Regardless, I’m happy to call out your hypocrisy and childishness.

        2. As long as you don’t post anything like that last comment I had to remove, you are free to speak your mind.

Edit: Yes and also that, feel free to leave if you have an issue with that rule.

          1. Lol I didn’t know Ubisoft had bought this page. Is surreptitious advertising legal in Canada? Maybe you should make it official

              1. Then maybe you should consider a journalistic approach instead of this corporative tongue kissing you’re running,

You take care too sweetie xoxo

        3. It’s cool to have debate, that is true. But when one side is going: Oh, cool, Ubisoft, and the other is going “FUCK UBISOFT ASSCHEESE” then, why bother?

I find it’s fair to be disappointed by a specific song not getting chosen. But, c’mon, boy.

    2. Uh, thanks for the offer, but we’re in a committed relationship.

Sorry we couldn’t fulfill your request; we cleared all the songs we could (and more than we thought we’d be able to clear). This process took a long time; we’ve been chasing some of these tracks for years. We’d hoped to get Killing in the Name of into the original RS1.

has some insight into our song licensing process. We’ve got a slightly more detailed document at https://forums.ubi.com:443/. And of course, your requests are always welcome at — but only if you understand that it’s a suggestion box, not a vending machine. Please set your expectations accordingly.

  6. Fucking Sony and their PSN mishaps. They’re long overdue for some kind of overhaul over there between the perpetual errors and consistent outages. All that PS+ profit must be lining Shu’s office walls or something.

Anyway, I’ll get around to this when Sony fixes their shit. I find it interesting that there were so many outlandishly outspoken people when Ted Nugent hit Rocksmith, yet nary a whimper with the coming of Rage Against the Machine… really highlights the demographic for the game, or at least the ones willing to leave comments on a website.

    1. The biggest difference is that Ted is STILL an outspoken idiot. A lot of people these days probably don’t care about the politics in Rage songs because they’re done and over.

  7. WHAT!!??? Guess I was expecting too much. Guerilla Radio would have been the #1 track for me. In fact, from most comments that seems to be the one song most sorely missed here. Love Mic Check and Sleep Now in the Fire too. I’m guessing it would have been too difficult to deal with the profanity in Guerilla Radio on RS.

Hey Elliot, just a heads up. You may not even need to do a Best DLC for December poll. Based on the comments it seems like the only real competition this month will be between RATM and Hendrix. Probably the only bands to trump Hendrix or Rage would be on one of what I call the Big 5. (Van Halen, AC/DC, Metallica, GNR, and the mighty Zep) Pretty sure that isn’t going to happen.

Then again, if they get SRV on here, my vote is casted.

  8. I’m really surprised that there’s nothing from The Battle of Los Angeles, but in all honesty, thinking about the three likely candidates (Guerilla Radio, Sleep Now in the Fire, Testify) there’s pretty much one guitar riff repeated through the chorus, maybe a little weird stuff during the verses, and that’s about it. Maybe they wouldn’t have fit in very well in Rocksmith. Not a huge fan of RATM, but I’ll likely pick up Killing in the Name (or camp on Twitter and try to nab a Steam code).

  9. Ok then, Due to a production error, I will learn those songs from youtube and not buy them. Well done Ubi you just save me 16$!

    1. Sorry. These missing tracks will be available in two weeks. We had a problem with one of the tracks, and in trying to fix the problem, it wound up having a ripple effect. But it’s solvable.

As for learning songs from YouTube…did you think you had to choose one or the other? Lots of guitarists use lots of tools to learn new material and improve. We figure RS2014 is probably one of many tools in most people’s lives.

  10. Probably only 3 must haves and a maybe in there for me, so will probably just get the singles I want.
Could easily have another 5 pack of tracks I’d want before the rest.

  11. Great, buying them all! Yes there are other songs I would have liked but I’m not unhappy with anything here. And i thought we were getting a six pack, but seven? Wow!

  12. Wake Up? I love Rage but that one always reminded me too heavily of Zepplin’s “Kashmir”. Would’ve much preferred Freedom or Calm.

  13. My only complaint is the lack of Guerilla Radio and Sleep Now In The Fire. Nonetheless this is a day one purchase.

  14. As soon as toymachine told me on twitter that only 3 out of 7 songs were AORB picks I was almost certain that there would be no songs from The Battle of Los Angeles. That said, it’s still a very good pack!

  15. Wow…

I’m really surprised that we’re not seeing any tracks off of the battle of los angeles. I would gladly swap out some of those tracks for “Testify” and “Guerilla Radio”.

  16. Oh, I can’t play this til 12/23 at best. Great, I’m just going to walk away and act like DLC didnt come out this week. son of a

  17. Pretty easy decision from where I’m sitting. 7 songs from Rage for just under 16 dollars, yes please thank you very muchly.

  18. what a dick move to pull apart bulls on parade out of the first pack, i will probably buy just bulls on parade, killing in the name and bombtrack.

    1. the first pack is all songs off their self-titled album. bulls on parade was on evil empire… therefore pack 2.
