Hello Rocksmith fans!

It’s August! It’s my birthday month! And we have a new newsletter with three fresh hints! Let’s see what hints we have on tap, shall we?

Some interesting stuff is definitely in the pipeline. Here’s what we’re hoping these hints could mean…

A Brief Period of Solitude

Pantera – 5 Minutes Alone

Well, this is an easy one. It’s clearly hinting towards the recently released 5 Minutes Alone!

A Clear Path

The Chemical Brothers – The Golden Path

I’ve been very open about wanting both electronic music and The Flaming Lips in Rocksmith for a long time. This song combines both, and has potential for some super cool tones, especially on bass.

Eve 6 – Open Road Song

While it may not be as well known as Inside Out, it rocks much harder! Either as part of another 90s Mix Pack or even a whole Eve 6 pack, this song needs to come to a rhythm game soon.

“Weird Al” Yankovic – Nature Trail to Hell

Maybe better suited in a Halloween pack, Nature Trail to Hell is a great pastiche of 80s metal songs and all the wonderful guitar work that comes with it. It’s about time Rocksmith gets a bit weird.

Some Chilly Temperatures

The Grateful Dead – Cold Rain and Snow

Could we finally be getting some Grateful Dead?

Ice Cube – It Was a Good Day

You know, Ice. Plus, the song itself is pretty chillin’, so really this is like a twofer! Seriously though, hip-hop is notoriously underrepresented in Rocksmith (it’s just RapScallions) and there’s a very prominent guitar part going through here that would make this bonafide classic hip hop track feel right at home in Rocksmith.

The J. Geils Band – Freeze Frame

Freezing is pretty chilly. A classic 80s hit that somehow hasn’t found its way over to Rocksmith.

  1. I think you guys are right on with free will but for chilly temps I’m going “when the snow lies red” from avatar.

  2. “Open road song?” How about Dramamine from Modest Mouse’s “It’s a long drive with nothing to think about”?

    That would absolutely kick a$$!

  3. Can we get a rock Smith R&B like isley brother summer breeze or George benson or Prince pack? That guy wailed on the guitar. He was awesome.

    1. Prince probably isn’t likely for a while, his estate is up in the air basically as he didn’t have a will so it’s all being fought over by his friends and family. Could imagine that’s going to last a long time.

  4. Nice touch with the Ice Cube call there. Hip Hop is missing in a painful way on Rocksmith. Speaking of painful, they might have a hard time getting It Was a Good Day as they’ll also need approval from the Isley Brothers, whose track Cube is riding on. Still a good song though.

In the spirit of having more variety, for chilly temperatures,

    Cold Sweat – James Brown
    Aquaboogie – Parliament
    or

Chill Out (Things Gonna Change) John Lee Hooker featuring Santana

    1. I second this isley brothers and parliament all day. Foot steps in the dark or caravan of love…. Parliament…. The whole funkadelic catalog… Funkadelic may be too much guitar for them though but parliament is perfect.

  5. SRV’s “Cold Shot” is mentioned in the FB comments. 1, any SRV = insta buy. 2, the video is kinda funny. She says if he doesn’t stop playing guitar “I’m gonna pack up my bikini and move to Rio”. Rio obviously where the Olympics are this year. The end of the video is sad.

  6. “Cold Rain and Snow” is based on an old folk song, it seems unlikely.

That brings up something I’ve been wondering. The original version is likely in the public domain, right, so could RS release it the way it’s in the public domain, but with elements of the more popular ‘hit’? RS could release a whole pack of public domain songs that were later hits by popular artists. It wouldn’t be too different from the Bachsmith packs.

Another GD song could also fit the hint, “The Golden Road (To Unlimited Devotion)”, also unlikely.

Bob Weir’s new album of cowboy songs was just announced. RS would be a good way to promote it. If Jerry’s estate or his lyric writer Robert Hunter is not for RS, maybe Bob is the way to get songs played by GD in the game. Most of his album Ace became GD staples.

I swore to no longer speculate about the Grateful Dead, but you brought it up.

  7. Great call on Eve 6!!! Im suprised Ive forgotten to request them already. Open Road Song is one of my favorites to listen to but check these out as well: Promise, Think Twice, Here’s To The Night and Leech. These guys always have tasty rock arpeggios in their tunes. Im going to request these, open road song, and of course inside out. I could live without victoria.
