Pretty big artist to start out the year. It’s not for me but I’m happy to see some variety. I respect Stapleton, he has a pretty decent voice and playing style. I just can’t get into country no matter how hard I try.

Okay, so let’s start off with the obvious. I can tell Chris listened to Etta James just prior to writing this Tennessee Whiskey song. Take the lyrics out and this song has the soul of Etta James’ “I’d Rather Go Blind.” all over it.

Aside from that, it’s nice to see some more country. While I’m not a big fan of the genre, I dip in and out from time to time. I’m not familiar with this artist but I do hope the song selection provides a better representation for him than the songs selected for Brad Paisley.

Listening to this I don’t consider this country more like a fusion of blues, country, pop rock and soul. It’s really not that bad and the dude is playing a jazzmaster above that’s definitely not country
