Speculation: 4/8 DLC – Def Leppard? Nope, it’s Bob Dylan!

Hey, Rocksmith 2014 fans, next week’s DLC looks to be a real scorcher and we aren’t f-f-f-foolin!

Yesterday we received three hints from Christopher Woo (@SquirellyNinja), Paul Cross (@CrossieRS), and a new community developer that will be familiar to our longtime fans from @TheHeroFeed, @DanAmrich!

On Sunday night, however, more than 6,700 fans filed into the Mandalay Bay Events Center to proclaim their enduring love for Def Leppard, the hard rocking Brits who dominated the FM airwaves during the 1980s.

And while Leppard probably never played to a house with more than 1,000 empty seats during its stadium touring heyday, the band gave its defiant supporters exactly what they came for: big, raucous sounds and bright, flashing lights, as if it were 1987 all over again.

Well Def Leppard is definitely older than AFI, A Day To Remember, and Matchbox Twenty!

Can you believe we thought the hint was pointing at Bob Dylan again though? (Should have gone with this)

In any event Def Leppard is a welcome addition to the Rocksmith catalog and have had their fair share of exposure through both Guitar Hero and Rock Band.

Edit: Whoops

Note, this is the first Bob Dylan DLC EVER

  1. Ha! Fantastic! (Looks like I’ve been in the RS minority for a few weeks running) I’ll take substance over vapid pop infused bubble gum hard rock any day.

Fun Fact: I got to see Dylan play on 4/20 (heh) in Kearney, NE (U.S.) a number of years ago. The old timer played for 3+ hours, featured Charlie Sexton on lead guitar, and undoubtedly filled the house. One of the most memorable shows I’ve ever attended.

We don’t have long to find out now but I could totally go for

    Hurricane
    Don’t Think Twice
    Fixin’ To Die
    Subterranean Homesick Blues
    Tangled Up in Blue

Yeah I know it’s only a 3 pack but hey I can dream!

  2. Guess I am one of the few “psyched” people about this, as long as one of the electric mid 60’s tracks makes it! Outlaw blues would be awesome or some mike Bloomfield stuff! Love his sound!

    1. Glad for you then. Much respect to BD for songwriting skills, but really don’t care to play any of his tunes as performed by him. So disappointed it wasn’t DL; was psyched.

  3. Dylan is a great artist, but like most people on this site I would have preferred Def Leppard. I can’t buy DLC because I have yet to buy RS2, but oh well.

I have heard that several “bad” weeks can lead into one really “good” week. Perhaps next week will be Metallica or something.

  4. Man, that is like giving me the equivalent of DLC blue balls! I was beyond psyched to get some Def Leppard DLC, especially after all of this bubble gum metal that has been coming out.

I love Dylan’s song writing but I HATE his singing. Give Me Hendrix or GnR any day over the real thing. The man is a genius songwriter and a horrible performer.

    So disappointing… 😥

    1. The Boston dlc has given me enough hope to expect a good dlc soon, but who knows, most good bands are extremely hard to songs from ( Journey, Def Leppard, ACDC, etc.)

    2. Good, can you do that and post a picture so we can laugh at the fucking butthurt idiot that broke a good game to play a dead game with 20 DLC songs because waaaah I don’t like the optional content a blu blu blu blu qq moron

      1. Damn I wish I had taken a picture for you…but then again maybe I was being a little sarcastic. Keep trolling the comments. I’m going to play some guitar.

  5. what a joke i didn’t know nursing homes had rocksmith for seniors wtf is this crap damn i’d take emo anyday instead of this dead old hippy drug bull

i hope all you over 40s have fun

      1. That’s a little harsh don’t you think? Come back once you’ve learned Don’t Think Twice (It’s Allright), which by the way is a great song. I would recommend Dylan for Rocksmith though.

        1. would not* Acoustic stuff and heavy chording either arpeggioed like House of the rising sun or strummed doesn’t work too well.

  6. “shockingly didn’t fill the house?!”

um… yea, no wonder we were confused… there is absolutely NOTHING shocking about Dylan leaving some seats empty.

  7. Good job, toy. Good job.

Im not nearly as excited for this as I was Def Leppard, however my acoustic repetoire is very lacking for open mic night, so I welcome this as well.

      1. I actually just figured it out. Bob Dylan supposedly wrote Blowin in the Wind at a coffee bar called The Fat Black Pussycat. Never would have figured that one out without working backwards.

        1. Also “didn’t hear it from me” ??? Possibly meaning we heard the answer “Blowin in the Wind” ???

  8. Pass on this DLC. Was really hoping for Def Leppard, oh well maybe we’ll get them soon as it’ll probably be another few months of on disc artists.

          1. Could be worse! Dylan on Bandfuse… Vocal coach would have to be an Ambulance. /runs away laughing

  9. I was wanting some Def Leppard… Ubisoft just doesn’t want any money I guess.

Not buying Dylan, can’t stand him. Good songwriter but he should pass to someone else to that can actually sing. His voice sounds like he has a mouthful of marbles …

  10. Sigh….Dylan….pass yet again. Nothing has interested me since Boston and Halestorm.

Def Leppard would have been nice.

Maybe DLC will get my money next week.

    1. I know, why didn’t they come out with this sooner. It is so nice to hear real art as opposed to manufactured art every once in while. thank you, rocksmith.

      1. I was referring to TheRiffRepeater getting a prediction wrong for once. I’m a Bob Dylan fan, so I don’t mind it especially considering the recent run of dlc. But I don’t think that Rocksmith is particularly suited for acoustic stuff, fingerpicking, and chord strumming. I find this kind of material much more fun and rewarding to play outside Rocksmith. But I’ll wait until I see the song choices to pass the final judgement.

Now personally I wouldn’t mind some Johnny Cash material with Luther Perkins on guitar. I’d like to think that the boom-chick style guitar playing would work better within Rocksmith, and there hasn’t been any similar material as of yet from what I can recall.

By the way whoever came up with the name “Rocksmith” must have lost Ubisoft a ton of money. Not only because it’s not all about rock, but it’s also so tacky and contrived that it sounds like Japanese game title.

  11. You know, I’m thinking it might be Dylan instead of Def Leppard. One the clues mentioned legendary “artist” and the last time I checked, Def Leppard had 4 3/4 artists…

  12. *insert generic comment about not having bought DLC for 5 weeks because everything is crap and no one else’s opinion matters here*

  13. anyone notice since bandfuse went under the dlc has been crap nothing that has never been released on any other game just the same old crap every week i don’t want to play this band on guitar so i am done with dlc 12 bucks a week in my pocket

    1. there is a bit of truth in that … the best DLCs has been released at the beginning of 2014 … perfect to push rocksmith 2014 forward … buts it not all crap since then… i really wonder how mean-spirited a lot of posts are … is this about youth? … but I want but I want but I want .. I wanna wanna want …. 🙄

      1. fyi i’m not old enough to be a bob dylan crackhead fan but i am to be a korn freak before my rant i mentioned the secret merger harmonix has a overlod of garbage read the songs that were on the 3 rockband games

    2. There are plenty of people that do wanna play this on guitar, though. But let me guess, they don’t matter as long as you get what you want, right?

      1. i know there is and i don’t care about them no i’m tired of these 1 artist release i wouldn’t complain if it were a mix bag every now and then

  14. I approve of the Def Leppard rumor but i think it will be Dylan this week. Id really like to see some SKA music make an appearence, its one of my guilty pleasures and its a whole different style of strumming.

    1. I’m on holiday in Las Vegas. The legendary _artist_ for next week performed in Vegas and shockingly didn’t fill the house?!

      singular

  15. Depending on the tracks, could be an ok week. It doesn’t matter what DLC is released, there’s always going to be haters who will feel the need to vent thier frustration out on here. If you don’t like it, don’t buy it, simple. Everyone would love certain songs or artists released but rocksmith isn’t going to be able to cater for everyone. You can please some people sometimes but you can’t please all the people all the time.

    1. the past three weeks of the same style and same decade was not even trying to please all the people. If they changed it up as they were doing before this last month there would be much less bitching.

    2. I’m not a Def leppard fan, but those songs sound fun to play and a little challenging in places too, that is good enough for me. I hope it isn’t Dylan, I love his songs but it’s just guitar strumming. Personally, I don’t want super-easy songs, I’ll learn nothing from them and can play them without the game quite happily. *cough* oasis *cough*…

      1. actually I’m being unfair there, it depends on the songs, there could be some fun/challenging stuff. I forgot about a few I’ve listened back to tonight. I was too hasty to judge and I apologise.

  16. Another week, another DLC so boooooooring it’s not worth buying! Next, please! (but I hope for something better this time, like, for example, QOTSA or some UK indie/alternative. Still, I’d rather have Dylan this week tho, because I’d at least consider buying Bob’s DLC)

  17. Mikes just jealous cause he wishes he could play that ’68 Studio Gibson his parents bought. My “dumbass” metal requests may not be everyone’s choice but neither is shit like Def Leppard. Have some Respect for other musical talent you close-minded fuck.

    1. I’m not musically ignorant. I’m into pretty much every genre except for rap, country, and Christian. I just hate metal elitists.

  18. OMG! My faviourte band. I already know 10 of their songs on guitar, but it will still be awesome to see some DL on RS. I personly want to see Hysteria, or Hysteria (In The Round In Your Face Live concert version). Stand Up kick love into motion, Armageddon it, or Let it go as the surprise song, as the other songs are always used, but are really good.

  19. It will be Bob Dylan: The last tweet by @squirrelyninja was “If you misread next week’s DLC you won’t think of Alf, but don’t get it mixed up with one of the five best rappers of all time.” This is definitely pointing to this: “Who are the 5 best rappers of all-time? Dylan, Dylan, Dylan, Dylan and Dylan!”

I still hope for Def Leppard though

  20. Sometimes I feel like I’m the only one here who has not disliked any of the DLC that has come out.

On topic, it has been a while since we had faster solos in the DLC. We’ve had nice riffs, but nothing too out of this world. It’s been a minute since Boston came out, so I’m glad we’re getting more 70s and 80s love.

  21. Glad to see more 80’s 🙂

Would rather have Ratt, Crue or Jovi, but this should still be pretty cool.

  22. Finally. I was a bit tired of last DLC so im pretty excited for this pack. I hope it will be 5songs not 3 like Kiss or Doors had. And I would be glad to see more 80′ comming like: Bon Jovi, Scorpions or Van Hallen.

  23. more 80’s radio rock…. 😥
every tastes are in the nature… hope there will soon be dlc for my tastes..

  24. Cool 🙂
But just out of curiosity, I wonder if there’s a chance to get some country/country rock. That’ll definitely add a little more variety

  25. I only care if the guitar gives me more than just power chords in the lead. If it aint ur kinda music try to see past it and learn the guitar.

  26. I don’t think RS can screw up this DLC play list
unless its only a 3-pack which they often do for Classic Bands

I never was a BIG Def Leppard fan but respect their discography
& with always having 2 guitarists their songs will be fun to play
    Rhythm,Bass,Lead for a long while.

    😎

    1. I’d love to finally get a decent transcription of Photograph. It’s always been my dad’s favorite guitar song and I’d love to be able to surprise him with it!

    1. Oh really … Plz tell us .. Was you living 4 weeks in garbage? … Was you eating 4 weeks only garbage? .. Or are you telling 4 weeks only garbage? … Or is your taste of music just garbage …

    2. thats what i said (to you, jeam)
about fucking time we get something kickass and classic. here is to hoping they can keep doing this.

(Still infinitely hoping for Pink Floyd DLC)

  27. WASTED! That’s about all I Really want out of Def Leppards singles. Rock of Ages wouldn’t be bad and Bringin’ On The Heartbreak wouldn’t be terrible.

  28. Was hoping it would be Nirvana DLC for the 20th anniversary of Kurt’s death. Too bad. Def Leppard is still awesome though.

    1. i thought they were working on an “in utero” pack.. that would have been a real better choice for this week, as homage to kurt’s 20th death anniversary..
well, for the “femme fatale” pack, it was released the week after the actual women’s day, so we can still hope for a nirvana’s pack for next week…

  29. I don’t mind giving the guitarists a week to shine. AFI basslines will keep me busy a while. Will probably pick up this pack too though I am not too into 80s stuff. Will add some variety to the set.

  30. can we get real bands i do like this but i’d prefer korn slipknot five finger death punch, know what i’m saying real music for guitar not just palm mutes which is all def leppard use how about some more drop c instead of e standard

      1. a) Wow. Just wow. Go back to the 50’s dumbass.
        b) This coming from the same guy who DOESN’T think AFI is crap? Your opinion is duly ignored henceforth and forever.

      2. Getting real fucking tired of people telling other what music is “real” or not. Some people like the music that you also like, some people don’t, neither of you are wrong. Don’t like it? Leave the planet.

    1. While I hate to agree with Mike in *any* way, Five Finger Death Punch has got to be one of the worst metal bands of all time. They are everything wrong with the rock/metal scene. Seriously. Their crap ass version of “House of the Rising Sun” is disgraceful, abysmal, and really says something about just how bad they are that this is their second cover song to be a single. That’s because they don’t have any of their own music worth anyones’ time.

      1. I have to admit, I really liked Bad Company, but House of the Rising Sun seemed like a lame attempt by someone to try and duplicate it’s success. I cringe whenever I hear their “Sin City” lyric change. I’d say they have a couple good songs- Lift Me Up and Coming Down come to mind-but I don’t really get the hype.

        1. Yeah, their cover of “Bad Company” isn’t terrible. I really, REALLY hate it when bands feel the need to inject their own name into songs though, especially in a cover version when they have to change the original words to do so.

But sure, they have a few good songs. I like “Hard to See,” but I think that they are just not worth the praise they seem to have earned.

  31. Paul, Please give us some Machine Head!! Or some Trivium, something fast and heavy and in a funky tuning. Please! Something from George Lynch would also be sweet

      1. Why do you need a reply? You’ve said your piece. Stop looking for attention and validation of your own opinion.

        1. then act your age instead of trying to the play ground bully
that’s always pissed off because of his mommies multiple boy friends

  32. Ahh man … I was really hoping it was Dylan. Def Leppard is the cancer that killed NWOBHM. (Hey it seemed like everyone was pretty onboard with this one, so someone had to be the dissenter right?)

Regardless of any of that – thanks Ubi for continuing to produce content for this awesome game!

    1. While I agree, Def Leppard was only part of the problem. Though not directly related to the death of NWOBHM, my beef lies with the likes of Poison, Cinderella, etc. I’m sad that people say Nirvana “saved” rock from bands like that (ha!), but I’d pick Leppard over those any day.

  33. Ohhhhhh yeahhhhh!!!!!!!!!! Me like some def leppard. Bass lines don’t sound too hard but I like most of their hits so I’m definitely in.

  34. Personally, I would be crazy excited for the following:

    Foolin’
    Photograph
    Hysteria
    Let’s Get Rocked
    Too Late for Love

  35. no complaints from me this week. Far from my favorite band, but good recognizable songs. It’s a refreshing change from all of the mid 90’s-and forward stuff of late. Even if I hate the song selections, i’ll be buying it in hopes that RS will be influenced to continue to add similar era/genre artists/songs.

    1. Sure sure … Just throw your money out of the window … Maybe it will influence the world peace too … Total nonsense

  36. I think the 5 pack will be:
    Bringin’ on the Heartbreak
    Hysteria (2013 Re-record)
    Rock of Ages
    Foolin’
    Photograph

Licensing has generally been a problem for the Hysteria album (e.g. RB and GH got live tracks from Mirror Ball, RS got 2012 Re-record)

        1. If you’re really not sure if it is or not (it’s not), then why not take advantage of this wonderful thing before you called the internet and take some time to educate yourself before writing an ignorant comment!

          Helpful instructions:
          1) Go to the address bar at the top of your screen (it’s long and white and says “www.theriffrepeater.com…” in it right now)
          2) Type “youtube.com” and hit “Enter”
          3) Type in “Def Leppard” and any of the suggested songs
          4) *facepalm*

    1. You’re… you’re joking, right? I mean, this is the internet, so you never know, but I haven’t completely lost the faith in humanity just yet.

    2. Really…Def Leppard is emo?
What time warp just happened, back in the 80s they were one of the hottest rock bands around.

Sounds like someone needs to learn to do research before preaching a non-sense.
