Speculation: Rocksmith Newsletter hints at May DLC

Greetings, Rocksmith fans!

Another month rolls by, and another newsletter teases what’s to come this month:

Nice typo, @DanAmrich. “…from of one of”

The arrival of royalty

This one’s easy

A five pack from one of our top 40 most requested artists

Going by the precedent established by Elliott in this article from November of last year, the most likely candidates for DLC from the list appear to be these:

That’s only if we ignore repeat artists, which some are certainly overdue for another pack by now.

So, Rocksmith fans, which artist do you think we’ll get this month? My guess is Dire Straits, going by Paul’s tweets from last year.

Have fun, and I’ll see you all again soon!

    1. Surprised no one has recognized this. Yes R.I.P. to the Ambassador of the Blues. Although we all have a time, it is sad to think, we just lost our last……ah hem……LAST living connection to the early roots of the blues. That is to say, someone who worked those fields in the Delta and took their version of the blues to the world.

I guess the senior man on campus now is Mr. George “Buddy” Guy. (learned from Muddy Waters). Outside of him the last connection to that era is someone often considered one of the pioneers of Rock, Charles Edwin Anderson Berry.

We’re loosing the greats. Hope Ubisoft gets some of their music on sometime this year. (sadly may have to wait until Chuck passes for this)

          1. What about the reminder about licensing agreements at risk because of unauthorized content? Wasn’t Reigning in Blood a big one?

  1. How about a NYC pack? With the ramones, velvet underground & sonic youth, that would be a killer combo!

  2. You know, I like listening to that song by Queens of the Stone Age that’s in Rocksmith, but it is incredibly boring to play. Four chords on rhythm and some warbly garbage on lead. I wouldn’t buy a 5-pack of them unless the charts look fun. I wonder if the people voting above are just really young and don’t know the other groups?

For RHCP, the songs I’d probably enjoy the most would be (in order):

    Soul to Squeeze
    Under the Bridge
    I Could Have Lied
    Road Trippin’
    Can’t Stop
    Funky Monks
    Cabron
    Minor Thing
    By The Way
    Snow (Hey Oh)

    1. If The Chile Peppers would’ve showed up for the gig on time, they MIGHT have won THE PRIZE for Top 40 band we want that hasn’t been dlc before or maybe not. A very distinguished award.

      1. Believe me; I have, Elliott. It’s subjective, admittedly, but they don’t really do much for me. I don’t mean offense. I was into different music by the time they got big, and my ventures into their catalog on YouTube haven’t compelled me to wanna buy or learn their music.

I’m sure RHCP will get their due soon in any case. Frusciante is a genius, even if flighty; if there’s any justice, we’ll see two five packs of his contributions to the band.

It may be a more distinguished an award than you think, Jim, as this site is the best place on the net for Rocksmith news. I’m sure glad they run these polls and solicit our feedback.

        1. I would honestly love it if it was RHCP. Just thought it was funny they were left off the list and now they’re coming back to take it.

    2. If you’re referring to ‘Go With The Flow’, then I agree with you that it was a terrible choice for Rocksmith. There are, however, a TON of other QOTSA songs which would be great for Rocksmith (‘No One Knows’, for example). And yes, I do know all the other bands on the list, and sadly I’m not very young :-). All the bands on the list are great, but to me, QOTSA are the only rock band since grunge that have really mattered, and ‘Songs For The Deaf’ is absolutely one of my top 5 records of all time. Josh Homme has a great guitar sound and it would be awesome to see a QOTSA pack on Rocksmith, I think folks would enjoy playing it.

    3. Interesting choices. I’m a huge chili peppers fan, have been since ’89, and I would not pick one of those if I was asked to do a list of ones I want aside from ‘Minor thing’. Maybe Funky monks. Under the bridge would be an obvious one to end up in a pack, but my list would be more like this (yes, all requested!):

      True men don’t kill Coyotes
      Freaky Styley
      The Brothers Cup
      Me and my friends
      Fight like a brave
      Nobody weird like me
      Knock me down
      Taste the pain
      Suck my kiss
      The greeting song
      dosed
      can’t stop
      minor thing

Im not saying my choices are better, I think my favourites are all mostly pre-californication.

  3. I dunno about Dire Straits, though it would be nice. This was Dan in 12/14: “BTW, we have approached Dire Straits (and hundreds of other artists) and we do not currently have their permission to include them in the game. Same goes for Metallica, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, and pretty much every other very popular or influential rock band you can think of. We are hopeful that some of these artists will want to be involved in the future; we have seen some artists change their mind and we hope that the more Rocksmith continues to establish itself, the artists who are less interested may become more interested.

Time will tell — but just so you know, it’s not because we didn’t think to ask them. The music you love, respect, and want to play is the music that we love, respect, and want to play.”

  4. I think the bands with the least chance of getting a pack are Slayer and Slipknot.
    Because A:
    Them Tunings.
    And B:
We already got a metal pack.

    1. Wow. I forgot about Queen. I’m not a big fan, but I know they have a lot of fans. In fact, I’m surprised they aren’t among the Top 40.

As far as this month, with the statement “..arrival of royalty” I’m thinking the DLC won’t be Queen as I believe RS already has at least one or two tracks from them. I could be wrong. Will have to go check.

  5. I’m definitely hoping for QOTSA or Nirvana, but I actually wouldn’t mind a Rolling Stones one either, even though I’m not much of a fan. Just started on Paint It, Black, and it occurred to me that if you stuck Gimme Shelter, Start Me Up, Brown Sugar and Jumpin’ Jack Flash in a pack, that would be a pretty damn good pack.

  6. Could it be real royalty? Such as Sir Eric Clapton or Sir Paul McCartney? Sir Elvis Costello? Maybe?

  7. I am going to wait for a couple months before I look again because this time release nonsense is just so we’ll buy music we ordinarily hate…so far…guilty as charged and sorry to boot.

      1. You know, that is a good point. When did this newsletter come out? If it was before last weeks DLC, the our Royalty hint for the month has already been met with Freddie King’s Hide Away.

If the letter came out after last week’s DLC then royalty has yet to enter the building.

        1. The thing is when the last month’s newsletter came out one of the clues was “An iconic debut single from the 90’s” which was “Everything Zen” which was the first DLC of April.

          1. or its a british band or ozzy osbourne is kinda king , or maybe alice cooper prince of darkness lol

if its ozzy please please dont put a full zack wylde pack

bark at the moon or slow down
            crazy train
Road to nowhere or S.I.N or No more tears
            Mr. Crowley
something for the ribute album ( suicide solution … nah im dreaming very too much , maybe paranoir or children of the damned live by randy …. nah they can put good things but this never but it would be awsesome as hell fuck or anything near excellence .. but if you put a ozzy pack please do one 5 with randy and a 3 or 5 pack the rest from jake e lee to gus g . i know my writting wont change anything but this would be good to have some solo that last more than 30 sec . you put blues now put solo ( i pretty aware i got freebird…lol)

            1. I love the idea of Ozzy, although I am not holding my breath. I know the legal mess that those big dogs can get into. What a wonderful idea though.

              1. i know its only dreaming . if we where living in my world it would be beautiful….i cant believe the fact that theyre only able to put 1 artist per week and only 3 or 5 song per shot.. ( give me the jobs ill work day and night , weekend , noel and whatsoever even at half of their salaries ,ill just sleep there and play foreever )

and another quotes for ***IF*** they ever put a ozzy pack what i mention up there would never see the day it would be a HUGE mess that i can believe it

if they put paranoid Black Sabbath and Randy Version like they did with holy diver…… personally i cant believe kse cover it and ppl love it , i hate it sober , high , drunk , in miss of sleep , but i try to keep believing they would put good artist and song , that aint hard just pick a hat throw an artist and just listen to their album even if im no fan i can make difference between shit and goodness for someone record.

again as i love to say writting wont change a thing because we dont chose they choose so they mess it up not us..$$$$$$ oops sometimes its millions so here $

  8. Hoping for a good QOTSA pack. They released Dethklok, which is the same tuning as most of QOTSA’s songs. I thought they were laying the groundwork for this one. Wanting to see Mexicola and Auto Pilot at least.

  9. Here’s hoping for Dire Straits or ZZ Top. Money for Nothing or La Grange would be epic for Rocksmith.

  10. Queensryche would rock just hoping Freddie king isn’t it after rereading the post…Elvis would need a mega pack.

  11. I think you’re right about Dire Straits. As for royalty, He could only be talking about Prince, right?

  12. Do we need another slightly different 3 chord arrangement from green day? I mean really, might as well put in more oasis… Just as challenging

    1. Hahaha! Kind of with you on this, but also we have to remember a lot of the people playing this are beginners, so there should be a decent amount of stuff that is barely anything other than strumming a few chords. Got to start somewhere!

  13. Top 40 is going to be Red Hot Chili Peppers. About time too. Would have thought with Higher Ground in RS1 that they would have had a pack years ago.

    1. You seem so sure… I would love that, I have requested a bunch of RHCP tracks although I worry most of the tracks would be from the more recent albums, rather than being from Blood sugar sex magic and previous… I still like their albums since BSSM, but not as much.

    1. Uh huh. check the link I submitted. Learning that particular solo would be epic.

He really deserves to be recognized. Problem is, what songs of his showcases his guitar work besides Let’s Go Crazy?

  14. I would love to finally see pink Floyd in a game, Metallica would be nice too but we all know it won’t happen. Gimme shelter would be great if they put the stones in

    1. Never gonna happen. There is no way in hell a mere machine could accurately track that awesomeness.

    2. that solo is beautiful! My respect for prince just increased 10fold. Gotta check out more of his music now!

      1. I knew he could play, but not like this. And I’ve often read how he is a highly skilled guitar player. I’ve also read, of the multitude of instruments he knows how to play, guitar is his favorite.

While I respect him as one of the most gifted musicians ever , I’ve only heard the pop and R&B songs. I’m not sure what to listen to in his catalog that highlights his guitar work.

I will say this. He is most definitely underrated.

  15. I vote for Red Hot Chili Peppers, followed by ZZ Top this month. I would buy either one first day.

I hope for a larger set of Stevie Ray Vaughan songs at the end of the year like they did with Hendrix so that we have a better chance of getting my favorite of his cuts, Rude Mood.

  16. My first thought would be a new pack from Green Day. Considering they’re now HoF inductees and they have a new CD coming out, the timing would fit.

There seems to be a lot of metal coming out lately. So with that, they probably will include another one only this time from the Top 40.

I doubt it would be SRV as he requires no less than a 10 pack. The same could probably be said for AC/DC and The Beatles. If they’re looking to please the masses, RHCP, Motley Crue, or I guess Def Leppard. (Does Dire Straits have enough songs for a 5 pack. Not to belittle them. I only know three of their hits. Money for Nothing, Walk of Life, and Sultans of Swing)

My choice would be ZZ Top or RHCP.

As for royalty. I’m thinking Ubisoft got the one reclusive person we least expect, admire often as a true artist, don’t often credit as being a very skilled guitar player, and whom we most likely will not hear the tracks most folks normally request.

Now the question is, which name would Ubisoft use on Rocksmith?

    T. A. F. K. A. P.

    SLAVE

    Symbol

  17. Anything from candle box would be better than most of the groups listed above…. And I don’t even like candle box

    1. Hahahaha are you being completely serious? The Stones, ZZ Top, SRV, Dire Straits and Nirvana? Candlebox is better? Wow, must be nice to have such a low ceiling for musical taste. Candle box hahahahahahahahahah

  18. Dire Straits, please

    Sultans of Swing
    Tunnel of Love
    Money for Nothing
    Lady Writer
    Brothers in arms

    1. Thomaz, sorry, I didn’t see your comment prior to my statement above. Thanks for the info.

            1. Wow, no wonder the music sucks so bad these days. It would utterly destroy your will to live to be involved in so many layers of greed. I’d rather build bird houses and mow the yard. I have a whole new respect for people who have to deal with this torture. Good luck and may God have mercy on you.

            2. Interesting read. So Axle is self centered and hates Slash because he cant share the spotlight with his enemy or wants him off the planet or whatever. But, how I read it is we get one or the other? GnR or Velevet Revolver? If you had to think about it should shoot yourself with either one I don’t care. Slash’s best work was and always will be with GnR. Solution: Delete Velvet Revolver and beg Axle to forgive your foolishness so that he may have mercy on the Rock universe. Then Maybe Maybe GnR can make it to Rocksmith, trust me Slash will understand…..it’s better this way.

  19. If you notice, almost every month has only one heavy metal band, and that will be taken care off with the All That Remains DLC next week. So, I’m going to have to cross off Motley Crue, Slipknot, and Slayer.

    1. And we just had a blues pack, so probably not SRV. Hope it’s not QOTSA, which means it probably is – lol.
