Rocksmith 2014 DLC 1/27/2015 – Three Days Grace

three-days-grace

Hello Rocksmith fans!

This week’s DLC is a five pack coming to us courtesy of Canadian rockers Three Days Grace!

Three of the tracks come to us from their critically acclaimed 2006 album One-X, represented here with Animal I Have Become, Never Too Late, and Riot. The other two come to us from their 2003 self-titled debut (Just Like You), and 2009’s Life Starts Now (Break). With this, as well as I Hate Everything About You from WAAAAAAAAAY back when, there’s definitely a strong library of Three Days Grace songs in Rocksmith 2014!

Yet again, we have another week of drop tunings, so if you have some kind of moral opposition to leaving E Standard, this may not be your week.

  1. For slacked tunings use Ernie Ball Uneven slinky. Don’t force the strings into the nut if they don’t fit!! I’ve been using these on my second guitar set aside for dropped tunings. It’s nice to start with the heavier strings to give my digits a workout and then play on my standard tuned guitar which has the Regular slinky strings!! Makes the strings feel extra small too and easy to bend ;)!!!

  2. Still waiting for PS4 in Spain. So sad. I had it on PS3 and I have to buy the game again, but when we will have the fucking DLCS?

  3. Was really hoping for “I Am Machine.” Don’t love this band, but I do love that song and wanted it pretty bad. Not a bad pack though. Wouldn’t mind adding a few more Drop C and Drop Db songs to my library.

  4. Oh Well, another week I can save some money. Especially since I am buying the songs twice now for both Steam and Xbox.

  5. Another “metal” band I have no interest in.
They’re not as horrible as Linkin Park, but they all fall in the same boat as Bullet for my valentine, killswitch Engage, Shinedown, A day to remember… they are too much consensual to be metal, they all sound so radio friendly, nothing surprising, nothing interesting…
And yeah, that’s only MY opinion, so, have fun with it if you like that band, I’m for diversity in Rocksmith, I just wish we sometimes have more unconventional metal bands.

    1. I’d be happy if there was a Limp Bizkit DLC, but only form their first album.. good songs, great dirty guitar tones…
The other albums are awful, IMO.

      1. Wat? Whole Significant Other is undoubtly awesome album and on Chocolate Starfish there are some nice songs, My Way, Boiler, It’ll Be Ok.
Of course I respect your opinion 🙂
First album could be difficult to make for RS cos some songs are played on 7 string. But would be awesome to play “Sour” as it teaches two hand tapping very well 🙂

          1. 3 Dollar Bill$ Ya’ll is the best album to come from that nu-metal craze.

As for them being hard to translate to Rocksmith because they’re on 7-string, nahhh Wes Borland didn’t tune the 7-string in the conventional BEADGBE, he tuned to C# standard with an extra high C# as the 7th string (C# F B E G# C# C#).

Then there’s one song (maybe two, my memory isn’t the best) that he uses a custom made 4-string (the one he used on Nookie) and that one is tuned to F# F# B E, the F#’s are an octave apart and that def wouldn’t translate well to RS.

Once Faith became a hit, they sold out big-time. Every album/single after that was super-glossy songs written for radio (Nookie with crisp production or My Way with a silly music video for the kids). Even the heavier material was derivative and felt like “manufactured rage” (Break Stuff where the message is “I’m mad.” or Hot Dog where Fred intentionally tries to say Fuck as many times as possible, over 40!)

Dude actually seemed pissed on their debut. Music was raw and ambitious. Production matched and improv/ad lib moments added character (much like Ross Robinson did on the first two Korn albums).

            1. That would be the next step adding 7 string guitar and 5 string bass support. They could do a dlc transcribed for both 6 and 4 and 7 and 5 even though artists like limp bizkit, korn, staind are meant for 7 and 5. I would love to play some old korn and staind too

  6. Last exam Wednesday morning and this pack will be the perfect way to relax after it.

Snobs be snobbin, haters be hatin.

    1. That was only the case with the J-Rock DLC and probably so that people wouldn’t start assuming Rocksmith is dead because no popular DLC every other week.

The concept is a shame but after having played music games for nearly 6 years I know it would happen (look at when Moving Pictures was delayed for Rock Band as a perfect example).

  7. I have taken to playing all the Drop tuning stuff on a Peavey AT-200. It has the Anteres Auto-tune software built into the guitar. It works great on this type of stuff. No issues with string tension or intonation. It even did well on Soundgarden’s Pretty Noose CGCGGE. It doesn’t do well on songs in True Tuning, anything not in A440. I’m only passingly interested in the band, but I love what the Rocksmith guys are doing and will give this a spin!

    1. It even does non-standard tunings well if you have an IOS device, a dirt cheap MIDI adapter, and the MIDI Designer Pro app. You can change the reference frequency in seconds that way. I use it all the time and love the AT-200 for RS.

  8. I’m not opposed to this band or their songs, but I am afraid to buy anything else in drop c, for guitar or bass. Is this just my cable or do other people have issues with the game detecting the notes they play in those tunings? I tried some down tuned bass the other day and it was barely registering. Sigh.

      1. Well that sucks. They should either make new/better cables or stop selling us songs that we can’t play. I’m happy that I’m learning them and all, but to see my accuracy be <50% on a song I know I hit 90% on just plain stinks.

        1. Nothing’s wrong with your cable. One does not simply downtune to Drop C. Tune your guitar, then strum for a while, then fine-tune it again, repeat if necessary. If you have tremolo, you may need to adjust tremolo springs. Also, with lower tension strings vibrate with greater amplitude, you may need to increase action so strings don’t hit frets.

        2. On my bass, same thing raorn is saying.. I usually end up hitting the X button and retuning at least four times before I am satisfied. Loosening a string that much will make the neck flex a bit and make the others sharp. If it’s still not right I pause or restart the song and go in the tuner menu and tune it again. Once it is tuned right I have no trouble hitting notes on D drop C, well at least no more trouble than usual! Just remember with the strings loosened if you are inadvertently pressing the string down too hard between frets or something it is less forgiving than the higher tunings.

      1. My bass is professionally setup, brought in every few months to ensure that, and has good strings. I play the game on a top of the line, maxed out Mac desktop and am unable to play songs in Drop C. The notes are just not picked up consistently. I learned my lesson with a five pack of some band I never heard of that had really catchy songs that I looked forward to playing. They were mostly in Drop C if I remember correctly and it was an exercise in futility trying to play them. I planned to buy this pack until I saw the tunings.

        1. Not gloating, just setting the context here. (I know some people are still shocked by it, Desirsar and Greenbrick2 are the same person.) I put up those scores on a $300 SR-300 with Cobalts in the heaviest gauge. I have trouble with double stops, but down tuned and drop tuning work better than E standard for single pitches for me. If you really can’t find a setting that the game can detect (especially if you try Cobalts on guitar or bass), you paid too much for that bass and setups.

There’s always the last ditch of cranking the cable gain…

    1. Well, thanks for all the replies. I do tune several times before actually playing the song, even though the game thinks that going from E standard to Eb drop Db is no big deal and one pass is enough lol I would be pissed if it is my bass. I bought a brand-new bass just to learn with this game…not a cheapo but not very expensive either.

It just feels like in a long repeated stretch of notes that it will say I hit half…but they are all the same and I did nothing differently. It is quite frustrating.

  9. I did not know this band was Canadian, cool. I’m not a fan of this band but this is some fun and easy guitar/bass work for all those that are new to guitar/bass or rocksmith. I will pick it up after February.

    1. I’m starting to get the idea that everyone is tortured in canada judging by their music. Sending hugs and well wishes to our northern neighbors

    2. There are a lot of Canadian artists that for some reason never quite broke into the mainstream in the U.S.. We could use some Tea Party, Tragically Hip, Matthew Good, Sloan, and Big Wreck in the game.

How about some more classic stuff like Loverboy, Bachman Turner Overdrive, April Wine, Triumph and Chilliwack?

That being said, I will take a hug for Three Days Grace 🙂 But as long as someone out there enjoys there music and wants to learn it, I’m good with it. I don’t need to be a super fan of every DLC, I could never afford to buy it all anyway.

As it is I have a huge backlog of DLC waiting to be imported to Xbox One whenever they fix the song packs issue.

  10. the only 3DG album I listened to was their debut… i was very stoned and bought it about a week later when i saw it at best buy for $5. upon sober listen, i was not a fan. the only track i semi-enjoyed was “Home” so, i was hoping that would make this pack. oh well… maybe i’ll just have to smoke a lot of weed before i play these and then i’ll have a great time.
