Speculation: Brand New brings Sic tunes to Rocksmith 2014

Hello Rocksmith fans!

Looks like Justin, and I are going to be quite happy next week as @BrandNewRock will finally be added to the Rocksmith 2014 library!

Today @DanAmrich posted a quite interesting clue on the official forums:

F- crazy with a capital F
n – sponsored by lower case “n”
J – DJ Capital J
g – unicode for lowercase “g”
s – formula is equal to “s”
M – “M” on the Bund
f – Forte represented as a lowercase “f”

what does that mean though? It’s an imgur file name!

Anyone else remember Home Alone 2?

Very clever!

Also superimposed in the image is…

Sic transit gloria. Maybe we’ll meet again someday, when the fighting stops.”

@DanAmrich was nice enough to confirm it’s a three pack this week, so let’s figure out what might complete the trio.

This somber yet emotionally triumphant song was surprisingly on disc for Guitar Hero 5.

Pictured are the Top 10 Brand New songs on Spotify (US). What song do you think is most likely to be included in next week’s DLC?

So ends another month of Rocksmith DLC, are you happy with the addition of Brand New to the library or is what’s to come in October looking more appealing? Let us know!

  1. Can we get a Danse macabre bachsmith cover in October for Halloween?…I’m not even going to comment on this weeks pack…

  2. By the posts looks like Ubisoft will only get some cash from most of the guys that suck on the old Ubisoft teet… 95% of the post hate it… Lol

  3. I don’t get this battle over genres. Is this based on the subject matter of the lyrics…because these guys sound like Rock…ergo they sound ok. I get Jazz, Rock, Funk, and even metal as stamps. I get comparisons….but it sounds to me like there are just as many genres out there now as there are bands. I don’t care what these fluff brained rock stars are saying. I stopped looking for meaning in their lyrics years ago when I learned about books.

    1. I agree with you man, the big genres make sense but all this whining over subgenres and subsubsubgenres is just ridiculous.

  4. Man. Everything this past month was certainly not my cup of tea. Although I never heard of this band I listened and almost fell asleep. For those who like it I am happy for you but hope next month brings something I like.

  5. I hadn’t heard of this band before, and they don’t sound too bad, but I’ll still probably pass. Unless the charts show some surprises, it doesn’t sound like there will be enough challenge or new learning in this to justify the cost and the real estate in my already lengthy playlist. For my tastes, it has been slim pickings in the last few months, but hopefully that will change soon. I’m still holding out hope for Jazzsmith!

  6. earth wind and fire saved this month for me. the doors was great but its not my thing. AAR and BB is just such middle of the road insincerity.

    1. Their stuff is readily available on Youtube, and Spotify. You could go check them out. “Guess we got the doors now it’s back to 3-4 weeks of garbage dlc?”… Now that is a strange statement from someone who just stated that they had not heard of this band.

      1. Well wonderwaage.. If I haven’t heard of them there’s a good reason… Just listened to a song by them… There’s 3min of my life wasted…. They suck!!

        1. Nice work. You’ve looked a little bit outside of your tiny little box. There’s a whole new world out there, now go discover it, go boy, go!

  7. Dont get the EMO whatever you wanna call it label. That may very well be the technical wiki label but these guys were played constantly with Breaking Benjamin, Perfect Circle, Chevelle, godsmack, bad religion, audioslave, bouncing souls, AFI, agent 51, sum 41…. and music of that sort all throughout the 2000s on contemporary socal hard rock stations.

    1. No offense but all the real emo forums are heavily pro-Brand New. They definitely have roots in the real emo scene, and their third album is often called the best emo album ever (or since Diary etc.). I’m afraid to say they are emo. They did play with those bands, but they also plated with a lot of emo bands.

        1. No offense taken Nick. A similar thing goes on when ppl punitively label some 80s hard rock bands as glam metal. I cant imagine a true rock guitarist writing off someone like Warren Demartini because of some sub genre label that has nothing to do with the music itself. This gets me back to Brand New. What I hear is great contemporary rock guitar riffs, not an obscure label.

  8. Ah great, another band I have literally never heard of. This summer has been really poor for DLC *FOR ME*, all I bought was Faith No More (which was actually disappointing to play), Primus, The 50’s pack and The Doors. There’s been no metal for ages, no blues since the blues pack, still no jazz, no reggae, and still no funk – which I find really quite odd (one EWF song does not cut it, the other 2 were disco NOT funk). I may as well give up hope on the idea of getting full packs for Living Colour, RHCP, David Bowie, Gary Clark Jr., Parliament, SRV, Satriani, Vai and Motorhead. If they could get stuff like that, they wouldn’t be releasing such (internationally) obscure stuff as they have the past month surely? If so it’s not well thought out marketing to get bands that are only very well known in the U.S. oh well. There’s still session mode…

    1. Hi… “Another band I have literally never hard of” and “”Has been really poor” does not fit together. How do you know that this band is “poor” DLC, if you have “literally” never heard about them?

      1. because i took the time to listen before deciding I didn’t like them, that is how it fits together. Maybe should have said ‘had’ instead of ‘have’ but there’s no need to be that pedantic. Plus I did make it very clear that it was very poor for me, with the capitalised and asterisked “*FOR ME*”. Can’t be fairer.

        1. Well. As you just stated, you didn’t write what you meant, and I replied to what you wrote. What a predicament. Anyway, “I have never heard of this band” is not an argument for/against the quality of the music.

  9. at least in those 3-4 years theyve got some song that i got , so i cant continue to pass like those 3 last mothn and hope to have sometyhing one day , mathematic gave me hope , but ubisoft team makes me realise that maybe no!! ( i hink i will not worry they probably put shit till christmas like last year . See you when the snow will fall

  10. I think I’m going to pass again this week. Just a style of music I could never get into. Those who requested, have fun. Hopefully October has some great choices. 🙂

  11. I don’t see how The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows could possibly be excluded. Maybe no one but fans of the band know the song’s whole title =P but it’s easily their biggest song.

I will probably cherry-pick Sic Transit at a minimum.

  12. I’ve always thought Brand New and that whole genre they’re a part of sucked horribly. I honestly don’t think there’s any genre in music that I hate more. On the up side, it sounds like it’s a mix pack so they’ll only get one song. Maybe the other two will be good.

  13. No idea who this band is but glad to see the answer was arrived at in the proper way so there were no tantrums in the thread.

  14. I really have never heard of these guys. Decent vocals…spotty with the screaming though. I think everything sounds good to me. I haven’t been hyper consumer like before since I tend to prefer stuff I have heard of, and this doesn’t remind me of anything…except that reminds me of audioslave. I kind of feel like my rocksmith playlist is massive and before I add more unknowns…I want some more knowns. There are many bands who deserve more tracks…aka alice in chains, stp, pearl jam, megadeth, creedence, white zoooooombie, and then what about slipknot, van morrison, dmb, The eagles, oh yeah…that would be nice. I am not complaining, and I certainly haven’t been incentivising by being so parsimonious. I just feel that I want the most I can get for my hard earned money…until I can quit my day job. BTW could we get violinsmith up in this mutha. Thanks.

    Oh yeah…and Huey Lewis.

  15. Its good to see more and more genres get representation. September was a very diverse month. Funk, pop-rock, classic psychedelic rock, alternative nu-metal, and emo/post-hardcore.

Brand New was one of those bands that slipped under my radar for whatever reason over the years. Its good to finally be exposed to them, even if I’m not going to buy this dlc immediately.

  16. Not a good way way to end september. Hopefully next month is better. This month was pretty lame for dlc, excluding the doors pack and shooting star.

                1. I bet a lot of people could be excited for Blow By Blow (Jeff Beck) when they hear how awesome it is, and have their skills challenged/improved a lot, plus tons of bass love from Phil Chen.

Yes, I am inputting my Jeff Beck collection into the RS song suggestion app.

                    1. I guess this was in answer to my question? I can’t tell because the replys are not lining up anymore.

Fair retort. Maybe the people who do care do not constitute a significant number. I don’t know.

But consider who would care. If someone says a product is great, as Jerry Cantrell has done with Rocksmith, then intelligent people would want to know why because they want to know if the recommendation applies to them. Jerry Cantrel is an accomplished guitarist, yet even he derives benefit from RS, or so he says he does. If RS doesn’t have material that would challenge Jerry Cantrel, then, how can the rest of us get to his level through RS? That’s why I ask who would top musicians vote for inclusion into RS DLC? Because that’s where we all want to go and if the top guys can’t get there, then neither can we.

I understand the need for more accessible material. But, I’m sure we all know that’s not enough.

It calls into question the future of something if it doesn’t aim for the best. And when lower things are celebrated as if they are higher things, then the end seems near. I don’t want RS to get to the end. I want to ride this for a long time.

                2. id really love to get stat for all the dlc that have been released for occident , a band ive never heard that sound like a 2008 et +++ band ( 80 % of band over 2000 ) s sounds the same , i would had put 90 % because im angry by those band and by your choice of dlc but like fast food ppl like shitty stuff that come like a flavor of the month…flavor of the month ill take american hi-fi way before that , and before american hi-fi ill take children of bodom , buckethead , ozzy ( blizzard of ozz years ) , quiet riot ( randy rhaods year by preference) , great white , motley crue , warrant , slaughter , old green day all before dookie , real judas priest song , europe ,alice cooper , april wine , asia , journey , triumph , malmsteem ….you real band with muscian i know you might not know what it is , maybe a glimpse but thats not what rocksmith dlc is , please make me happy and most ppl out there and change rocksmith game name because it really aint rock your selling out there , i dunno if ill be more happy if you had put dico for those last 2 month… at least ill find it funny

sry that was for elliot answer , but i guess he doesnt care like any ubisoft member as long as theyve got money on the table the day ill be rich man ill get that list of song every guitar player would dream of

    1. Their music is on both Youtube, and Spotify. Maybe you should go give it a listen, and then come up with an, I’m sure, inspired opinion

      1. I mean if you check on the sony website you can see what all of the songs in the pack are and “Okay I Believe You, But My Tommy Gun Don’t”, “Sic Transit Gloria… Glory Fades” and “The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows” are the three that it shows

  17. Very happy. Will be crazy happy if the third song is Seventy Times Seven or something from Your Favorite Weapon.

    1. I’m hoping for Jude Law & The Semester Abroad or 70×7… I bet it’ll be Quiet Things, Jesus Christ or Sowing Season though.

While I love all of those songs, I prefer the upbeat pop-punk pace compared to the slower indie rock sound of the latter three songs.

  18. Another 3 pack??? We haven’t had 5 since Faith No More. Wish this pack was the one to finally get 5. Reeeeally hoping for You Won’t Know or Jesus Christ but anything off that album would still make this a favorite pack

  19. I got to see them live at Lollapalooza this year, they put on a really great show. Great to see them added to the library.

  20. i wonder if this will be the last year of regular dlc like dan said scaling back the staff to support only 3 song packs. If they don’t release a new title in 2016 then I think another year of spotty dlc will close it out. I’ll be sorry to see it go but maybe someone a little more dedicated to this will pick up the torch

    1. Dedicated Rocksmith Dev here. We’re not going anywhere; over the summer we’ve had the smallest team since Rocksmith 1 days, but we’re doing what we can to up the output. Expect bigger packs as the year progresses. Thanks for hanging in there with us. 🙂

    2. He didn’t explain that very well – is it that some note trackers left and they need to hire more people or that Ubi cut their staff because DLC isn’t selling.

      1. I don’t think they are going to give us every little detail. There is only so much we get to know, and yes I would also like to know more because I worry about the future of rocksmith as well. I think we just need to put our faith in them that when they say they are still on board for putting more dlc out we should be happy enough with that news. Only thing that’s gonna tick me off if the day they actually come out and say they are stopping dlc, until then I’m going to try and stay optimistic and advise everyone else to do the same 🙂

        1. cant imagine their having issues with dlc sales. What Ive spent on dlc’s for rocksmith , dwarfs what Ive spent on the base software and hardware and I doubt Im in the minority

          1. Does anyone have a link to dlc sales or RS 2014 sales all I could find was that 2014 was sort of a disappointment but i bet they are shopping around this game so they need to talk it up. Everyone knows this is a niche game and probably not meant for ubisoft long term because you cant maximize share holder value when fans of taylor swift thinks Rush is related to sororities

              1. agreed Elliott, seems to be one of these macabre post every other month. Probably rooted in their fear of losing something they’ve come to enjoy.

                1. maybe realistic by looking at the dlc over the last year … for me under 1/4 was good and if ppl may be like me that here the fact that ppl doesnt buy dlc . i d like ubisoft to put on their website quizz with question like:

did you bought song because you we re tired of waiting for something and tried to try something and felt bad?

are you tired of us getting dlc that sounds the same with band over 2000 :)!!!!!

would you like more lead song or instrumental 1 ?

would you like having 1 time per month an artist vote on the website htat will have his whole album on rocksmith ( ive already put that idea on this website like an artist per decade so ill be sure to have 70-80 decade bought )

would you like to have a mode where you can play online with another player ? ( bass or guitar or vocal if included )

having the vocal being included i mean a real mode …( that might cost $$$ , but when you do nothing youll get nothing )

a real vote for dlc not ppl going on a website voting 200 000 time for a song

having a mode where you can tab song maximum 10 or 12 that you can save on your profile psn or xbox that you can sell online and get paid for

                  try to add a drum

there is something to do with this game and i cant believe ppl get paid to think about that in 5 min i found this i cant imagine what i could do being paid for it and working 50-60 hours / weeks , ill be dedicated and try to find artist or musician and try to make it the best i can ,now i feel like this game has been abandonned since the start of the summer

      1. Eb for both of the confirmed songs. I only know of 3-4 songs by them that are in Eb Drop Db but other than that they typically stick to half a step down.
