It’s been a while since we got a new Rocksmith game, hasn’t it? Well, that looks like it’s all about to change soon. Sort of. Eagle-eyed Reddit user Sorkwelin discovered the image above on the Rocksmith website which looks to indicate that an updated version of Rocksmith 2014 is coming to current-gen consoles and PC.

This was officially confirmed later, along with some more details about what Rocksmith 2014 Remastered actually is. Let’s take a look at all the new information:

  • Rocksmith 2014 Remastered is not a new Rocksmith game but rather a major update to Rocksmith 2014.
  • If you already own Rocksmith 2014 on ANY platform (360 and PS3 included) you will recieve the update for free.
  • The library sorting features are being updated with a new Search feature that will allow you to type in what you’re looking for in Learn a Song, Score Attack, and the Shop.
  • Nonstop Play will now allow you to create custom playlists.
  • Riff Repeater navigation has been made much smoother.
  • You can now view all song arrangements in the new Song Hub meaning you don’t need to change paths anymore.
  • Nonstop Play can now be filtered by tunings and you can switch arrangements between songs.
  • The rate of Dynamic Difficulty can now be adjusted or removed altogether.
  • You can view detailed in-game statistics about your playing.

In addition, six new songs will be available as part of Rocksmith 2014 Remastered. They are as follows:

If you’re buying the physical disc version of Rocksmith 2014 Remastered then you’ll receive a voucher to download these songs for free. If you’ve already purchased Rocksmith 2014 then these songs will be available to purchase the same week that Rocksmith 2014 Remastered is released in retail stores. Rocksmith 2014 Remastered is going to launch in October, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for when the update goes live!

I’m just pleased that Rocksmith is still keeping us PS3 players in the loop…
How many gigabytes will the update be…? So I can plan accordingly with Verizon wireless…

luci_fur

A discounted price on the 6 song DLC pack would be a nice gesture also…
Call it a birthday present for your loyal subjects or some shit…

Thomaz

I hope they at least release new achievements with this update

Elliott

I doubt it

Elliott
Thomaz

that is just lazy…

MarleySantana

Almost don’t even care about the updates. This DLC is like a blast of fresh air clearing out of room full of tear gas.

RPG

Agreed. Wish they would have more music like this instead of another metal band every week.

MarleySantana

True. This year has been rather boring as far as the DLC has been. Not intending to trash anyone’s musical tastes, but it is high time Ubisoft stepped away from this course of repeating the same format every week. Glad to see they’re adding some flavor to the mix.

thequickmind

Its funny, I’m more excited about the patch than the dlc. I don’t like any of those songs, but I’m glad other people are happy.

Nick

awesome, the playlist and alt arrangements in freeplay will be hugely welcomed by me, everything else sounds neat too.

Scuddyflypaper

Tremendous news it shows continued investment and evolution of the platform.
Yes I would like more AAA Rock bands the obvious ones we are missing GNR LZ PF ACDC etc but I accept the reasons why this has not happened to date. Still holding out hope for the future when rocksmith will still be around. Subtle changes and improvements to the experience good enough for me for now meaning I can go back and replay my go to tracks. Rocksmith has given me the direction and motivation to improve no doubt about it so respect and thanks for this if rocksmith still has the commitment so do I

Matt

GnR and AC/DC seem likely in the future as both of those have been in games before. Hopefully if the reunion tour goes well for GnR, Axl might open up to their songs being in the game. And for AC/DC, seems at this stage we might only get them if it’s a full album since they don’t seem to like their music being split up, seems itunes was able to do that though.

rsanchez1990

Sweet songs!

NikoGamer ITA

Call Rocksmith 2016 was too hard? lol

Elliott

It’s not a new edition, it’s an update 🙂

Zenith

If they’ve done that, people would complain it’s not enough for a new version…

Pieter

Here some of my thoughts for inprovement ( i will be gladreceive my award in free dlc for rest of my life 😉 )

most happy with the promised control of dynamic difficulty in learn a song!

Need Better tuning ; does any one has problems? Especially outside estandard i get problems.

Need More detail in strumpatterns to practice

i would love to have a display screen with static tab in rs at each level of difficulty at learn a song; so you can practice it by memory and hearing.

And… Why not be able to put in tour own tab in the game somehow

need the gamaplay back; is more fun and challenge your skills with points venues and crowds going wild or throwing bottles

Some notetracking in dlc was a bit dissapointing ( sisosig from clash is diferrent as normal for example); others are tracked a bit strange, but that is minor. Most is excellent

AND .. What about a FREEDOM HAWK dlc pack ?

firekorn

About your tuning issue : Get a decent guitar or change your tuning peg!

You will be able to see and navigate through the song once you pause it so you’ll be able to read the chart at the speed you want.

Strum pattern would be nice but it’s hard to make without cluttering the screen of information so i guess they haven’t find a decent way to do it yet…

RPG

Without a real progress system, 2014 didn’t seem to have the motivation that the original had. And yeah, it would be nice to have a bit more information on the strum patterns so you can get the feel of the song down.

DRein9

Remastered came out of nowhere for me during the stream. Better search and playlists are great additions, plus the door open for the potential of more Marley/Elvis/Michael Jackson!

George Carlinlives

FUK YEAH!!!!!!!!!

Hmm, too bad there will be no play lists in Learn A Song. That’s where I spend all my time in RS lookinf for the right song or never getitng to the one I was thinking of because I got side tracked along the way by other songs.

Wisenheimer

Lolol…..I know what you mean about sidetracked. Seems like I start every rocksmith day with then intention of playing a particular song but by the time I’ve scrolled to it I’ve already played 10 other songs and half the time the intended song never gets played at all.

George Carlinlives

Exactly, and it gets worse with every song I purchase. I lose them, I think I still have not played one of the Crobot songs I bought.

Elliott

Damn you are missing out, play those immediately

George Carlinlives

BTW, I just saw in this week’s live stream that play lists will also work in Learn A Song, which resolves my major misgiving about it.

Elliott

o/

Wisenheimer

Speaking of losing songs, I hope this update fixes what I assume is a glitch. Every now and then a song will disappear from my library. When it happens I don’t need to redownload it, I just restart the game and it usually reappears. I don’t know why this happens. Maybe I have too much dlc. Lol

MarleySantana

IT IS ABOUT DAMN TIME. (put that in bold, underline it and place asterisks on all sides.)

I’m at a loss for words. Don’t even know where to begin. After 6 months of DLC that (for me) seemed to hover around the same 2 or 3 genres, it’s nice to see Rocksmith is finally adding some real variety to the mix.

As with any artist, there can be a complaint as to song choice. (I do have that complaint when it comes to how P-funk is represented) The fact that we’ll have something from THE LEGEND aka Tuff Gong is amazing. Damn happy to see that. Not going to complain.

There’s been talk about having some hip hop DLC. I though, (due to the heavy basslines) that either DJ Quik or Dr. Dre would have been first. Outkast is an interesting surprise.

Finally (saving the second best for last as Tuff Gong is 1st) I’m again pleasantly surprised to see the J5. I remember commenting last year on this site about the bassline in this song. It just sounds fun to play.

Rocksmith is finally adding some real variety to the mix. Reggae, Hiphop(ok yeah its more pop than anything else, so what), and Motown.

Question, the bassist on I Want You Back went on to form a jazz band. Is this opening the door to some future Jazz on Rocksmith?

The wait is finally over.

youngbuxton

Awful DLC. Are these choices in anticipation of a presumed win for Hillary Clinton? Enough with this rape-y multicultural bullshit, I wanna ROCK!

Heffa

Jackson 5??? Really?!!
C’mon it’s Rocksmith not discosmith.M.J. Was a child molester for Christ sakes!!!

Elliott

You must not be a bassist

Matt

C’mon it’s Rocksmith not Countrysmith

C’mon it’s Rocksmith not Funksmith

C’mon it’s Rocksmith not Metalsmith

Well they do try cater to large amounts of people so Rock isn’t really their sole focus despite the title.

Wisenheimer

Yes really!!!! And it will be a pleasure playing Wilton Felder’s KICK ASS BASS LINE. I can see how guitarists might not be thrilled but after yawning my way through the Satriani song, I really don’t have much sympathy. Lol

Mike

Wait I’m confused. Is there no reason for me to buy this as a RS2014 owner?

Russell

“If you already own Rocksmith 2014 on ANY platform (360 and PS3 included) you will recieve the update for free.” but going by the post, youll have to buy the songs

Thomaz

Doesn’t seem like a lot of stuff, it doesn’t deserve to be called a remaster imo. It’s just another lazy excuse to sell more, I already bought this game twice not going to buy it again, it’s about time they release a proper sequel.

hammer1021

why would you buy it again? It’s a free patch.

Matt

What would be the point in making a sequel when they can just do minor updates to improve the game?, they have said on one of their recent posts that the updates relate to making song selection a lot easier and stuff relating to using the riff repeater. The updates are free if you already have it as well.

There is another thing to think about too, when they release Rocksmith (what ever year) it will be likely that all your dlc may not carry over initially as licensing agreements may need to be renegotiated, that would be a big task for them to do as well.

Thomaz

If they were to release a new game it would require about 50 or so songs, on this “remastered” version they included 6 songs, that you need to pay $60 or buy them separately for $18, what a nice way to treat long time supporters.

What is the point in doing minor updates if you are going to do them 3 years after the game first lauched? Waiting for the next minor update in 2019! The game is the same as it was when it was released, it still takes 30 minutes to load all the dlc, it still can’t detect a lot of the notes on some tunings, there’s very little customization options, for instance, it would be nice if you could set a standard note speed, not fluctuate between satch boogie and all the other songs, with plenty more sugestions on the forums.

Matt

The update itself is free, it’s only the dlc songs that are extra. But really, I wouldn’t expect them to provide all those songs free for every single person as they’re probably still having to pay for the license of using their songs to begin with.

Also people have said that a new Rocksmith isn’t likely until the note detection software is improved enough for the next iteration to be viable.

Wisenheimer

I’m indifferent to all of these improvements. I’ll get excited when 5 string bass support is added (lol, I know). Looking forward to “I want you back” though, another request fulfilled. Thanks rocksmith. 🙂

Brian

Why don’t the one’s that already own it get those songs free also, I’ve purchased alot of dlc and feel that we should get them too , I’ve been with this game since the first Rocksmith was released and pre-ordered both versions, spent lot’s of cash on song’s only to be left out just like in the first Rocksmith when they added bass to it, now an update after all this time and the true followers get left out, same as when Jimi Hendrix was released you got those for free for a limited time if you purchased the game at that time, why do the one’s who have put hard earned money into the game get left out of these deals

Matt

Lots of games do that type of thing, Guitar Hero and Rockband both had exclusive songs if you purchased it from certain stores even though you’re buying the same game.

WonderWaage

No

Matt

Not sure if that was to me but:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_songs_in_Rock_Band_4, is quite a few sets of songs free for people preordering on different consoles, so exclusivity of songs (or bonus songs) aren’t something new.

Elliott

Think WonderWage was replying to the OP

Stoneloco

This is AWESOME! I would have been happy with just the update but Bob Marley & Outkast is a great bonus

Elliott

Aside from Train I’m pretty excited about all of ’em!

MarleySantana

Ditto, on the Train piece.

Other than that, this is the first time in a long time that I can say “this is an AMAZING pack of music”. October seems so far away now.

DRein9

I knew you’d be happy when Dan said Marley was coming. I believe he said those songs are in addition to the usual weekly pack. We could get two solid packs in one week!
